322: Chapter 322 I am the Second Chieftain of the Bear Clan, who dares to kill me?
The Bear Clan's camp was pitched ten miles outside the Guanyue Abyss, a dark, sprawling mass of continuous tents illuminated by bright bonfires.
When Chu Sheng and Wan Jiuer walked out of the Guanyue Abyss, hundreds of eyes turned to stare at them in unison.
The soldiers of the Bear Clan were drinking and eating meat. Seeing Wan Jiuer walk out, some whistled, some tapped their wine bowls, and others pointed at them with leering grins.
When they saw Chu Sheng following behind Wan Jiuer, their laughter grew even louder.
"Whoa! The new Lord of the Fox Clan actually found herself a husband!"
"And it's a tender-skinned member of the Human Race! Hahahaha!"
"Has the Fox Clan gone backwards? They found a two-legged sheep to be their backer?"
"Maybe they were so scared by our Bear Clan that they just grabbed some random member of the Human Race to save face!"
The jeers and laughter rose and fell like a surging tide.
Chu Sheng walked behind Wan Jiuer, his expression unchanging, as if he hadn't heard a thing.
But his fingers twitched slightly inside his sleeves.
A massive Bear Demon sat on a tiger-skin chair in the center of the camp, clutching a roasted lamb leg in his hand, grease dripping from his mouth as he gnawed on it.
Behind him stood two rows of Bear Clan warriors, each with ferocious expressions, grinding their teeth in menace.
Seeing Wan Jiuer approach, the Bear Demon put down the lamb leg, wiped his mouth, and grinned, saying: "Lord of the Fox Clan, I've been waiting for you for a long time. You finally decided to come out?"
Wan Jiuer stood ten paces away from him, her tone indifferent: "I am here. Speak, what do you want to discuss?"
The Bear Demon chuckled and held up three fingers: "The same three terms. Seventy percent of your resources. You may choose beauties at will. An annual tribute."
"But I'm in a good mood today, so I'll add one more—"
His gaze fell on Chu Sheng, and he laughed even louder: "This fair-faced Human Race guy is an eyesore to me. You slaughter him, and I'll consider letting you pay one percent less."
The Bear Clan soldiers roared with laughter again; some started slapping tables, others stood up to jeer, and the scene became as noisy as a vegetable market.
Wan Jiuer did not speak, simply looking at the Bear Demon, her gaze as calm as a stagnant pool of water.
The Bear Demon felt a bit uncomfortable under her gaze and wiped the smile from his face: "What? Lord of the Fox Clan, you can't bear to?"
Wan Jiuer said: "I will say this one more time. Between the Bear Clan and the Fox Clan, there is nothing to discuss."
She paused. Her voice was not loud, but every word fell clearly into every corner of the camp.
"You bullied my Fox Clan, killed my clansmen, and burned my homes. If you do not give an explanation today, I will personally send you on your way."
The camp was silent for a moment.
The Bear Demon was stunned for a moment, then burst into loud laughter, rocking back and forth, slapping his thigh until tears almost streamed down his face.
"Hahahaha! Send me on my way? Just you?" He pointed at Wan Jiuer, then at Chu Sheng, "Just you two?"
His laughter ceased, and he stood up abruptly, knocking the tiger-skin chair over.
He stared at Wan Jiuer, his voice dropping low: "I'd like to see how you send me on my way!"
"I am the Second Clan Chief of the Bear Clan, at the Peak of Spirit Containment. Who dares to kill me, who can kill me?"
His aura surged, and the pressure of his Peak of the Yun Shen Realm bore down on Wan Jiuer like a mountain.
Wan Jiuer did not Move.
She didn't even frown.
The Bear Demon was about to say something else when he suddenly felt a more powerful, sharper aura attacking from his side.
He turned his head abruptly and met a pair of calm eyes.
Chu Sheng was standing five paces away from him, having moved to his side at some unknown moment.
In his hand, he held the broken Immortal Executing Sword, its blade glinting coldly in the firelight.
The Bear Demon's pupils constricted sharply.
He opened his mouth, wanting to say something—
The sword light had already fallen.
No Move, no charging up, no wasted movements.
Chu Sheng simply raised his hand and slashed down with the sword.
The sword light streaked across like a thin thread.
The Bear Demon's body froze.
He looked down at his chest, where there was a hair-thin mark extending from his left shoulder down to his right waist.
He wanted to raise his hand to touch it, but before his hand was halfway up, his body split apart.
The left half and the right half slid apart from the middle, like wood that had been cut, and they fell to either side.
His expression was still frozen in the moment of shock, and his pupils still reflected Chu Sheng's calm face.
The camp fell completely silent.
The bonfires crackled, and the sound of wine bowls dropping to the ground was exceptionally crisp.
Chu Sheng sheathed his sword. His voice was not loud, but it fell clearly into the ears of every Bear Clan soldier in the camp.
"Who else?"
No one answered.
Hundreds of Bear Clan soldiers, not one moved, not one spoke.
Their gazes fell on the two halves of the corpse on the ground, then on Chu Sheng's calm face; their throats went dry, and their palms broke out in a cold sweat.
The Second Clan Chief at the Peak of Spirit Containment, who could have held out for dozens of rounds even against a Clan Chief at the Middle Stage of the Dao Completion, had been slain with a single sword stroke.
A seemingly soft and weak member of the Human Race had slain a Bear Clan Clan Chief of the Yun Shen Realm with one sword stroke.
This was too absurd.
Chu Sheng stood by the campfire, his gaze sweeping over the Bear Clan soldiers, his voice as calm as usual.
"Go back and tell King Peng that the Fox Clan is not something the Bear Clan can touch. If he wants to talk, let King Peng come himself."
He paused, then added: "Otherwise—"
His gaze fell on the two halves of the corpse on the ground, and he did not continue.
The Bear Clan soldiers, as if granted amnesty, scrambled away, not even bothering to take their tents or supplies.
The camp soon emptied, leaving only the bonfires, wine bowls, and the two silent halves of the corpse on the ground.
Wan Jiuer stood behind Chu Sheng, watching his profile as he sheathed his sword, and was silent for a moment.
"Aren't you afraid of King Peng coming after you?" she asked.
Chu Sheng said: "I am. But even if I am afraid, it must be done. If I don't do it, they will think you are easy to bully."
Wan Jiuer did not speak.
She walked over to the Bear Demon's corpse, looked down at it, and then turned and walked toward the Guanyue Abyss.
After a few steps, she stopped and said without looking back: "Let's go. Go back and recover from your injuries. In three days, we go to the Peng Clan territory."
Chu Sheng put away his sword and followed behind her.
The night wind blew, and the bonfires in the camp were blown until they flickered, on the verge of extinguishing.
The two halves of the corpse on the ground, in the firelight, looked like two piles of silent flesh.
