400: Chapter 400 A Shocking Secret, The Gentleman's Promise

Chu Sheng went up to the third floor.

Room Grade A-1 was indeed much more spacious than those downstairs.

The window was a size larger than ordinary guest rooms, and pushing it open allowed one to see the side of the Luochuan Waterfall. The mist was carried in by the night breeze, bringing a humid and refreshing coolness.

The room was laid with thick carpets, and the Gathering Spirit Formation of the bed was twice as large as that of ordinary guest rooms. On the table in the corner sat a pot of still-warm spirit tea and a set of moon-porcelain tea sets.

Chu Sheng placed the copper plaque on the table, pushed open the window to look at the view outside, then drew the curtains and sat down by the table.

On the surface, the inn showed nothing special.

However, when Chu Sheng extended his Divine Sense outward, he could sense a thin barrier covering the periphery of the entire pavilion, like a transparent membrane wrapping around the entire building.

This membrane could isolate the Divine Sense detection of Cultivators in the Dao Palace Realm, so ordinary Cultivators staying here truly did not need to worry about being spied on.

But to Chu Sheng, this membrane was as thin as tissue paper. With just a slight exertion, his Divine Sense silently pierced right through it.

He expanded his Divine Sense outward a bit more, covering the outline of the entire inn, and could feel that the spiritual power fluctuations in most of the rooms were very calm, like a group of people sleeping peacefully.

His Divine Sense swept across one guest room, moved to the next, and then paused for a moment at the doorway of a room at the end of the second-floor corridor.

There were two auras in that room, a male and a female, both with cultivation around the Early Stage of the Spirit Spring, and they looked quite young.

The male was leaning against the head of the bed, and the female was sitting beside him. The distance between the two was somewhat closer than normal conversation.

Chu Sheng originally intended to pass over it, but the dialogue between the two carried a tone that clearly did not want to be heard by a third person.

He couldn't help pausing for another instant, much like slowing one's pace slightly upon hearing someone lowering their voice by the roadside.

The male Cultivator's voice was lowered very softly, as if speaking of something he did not want outsiders to hear.

"It is said that the inn's Formation can isolate the detection of the Dao Palace Realm. Even if we make a little commotion, no one will know."

The female Cultivator did not answer, but her movements visibly relaxed a bit.

"How hateful, you're so bad."

Chu Sheng's Divine Sense silently glided across the crack of that guest room's door, just happening to catch this scene.

Then he pulled back most of his Divine Sense, but he already understood what those two intended to do.

He thought about it; he had run all the way to the Luochuan Kingdom not to watch others being lovey-dovey.

Nor did he intend to directly shout and stop them; that did not fit his style of doing things.

He withdrew his Divine Sense, then casually flicked his finger from afar in the direction of that room.

It was merely an extremely minuscule force of Qi, so light that it was as if he had accidentally brushed against something.

That Qi force penetrated the floors and walls, vibrating lightly on the floor of the room where the two were, like someone standing outside the house pushing the doorframe.

Immediately following that, the floor of the entire inn shook slightly, as if something had moved deep underground.

Then the sound stopped, and the floor returned to peace, as if nothing had happened at all.

"An earthquake?"

The female Cultivator's expression changed drastically in alarm.

A flurry of hurried movements came from that room, followed by the sound of a door opening and footsteps.

The two ran out of the room one after the other. The male was still wearing his outer robe, and the female was pulling her collar together with her hand.

With vigilant expressions, they looked around in all directions.

They stood outside waiting for a moment, and after confirming there were no abnormalities around, they exchanged glances again, as if unsure whether they should go back.

Then they each looked around once more before returning crestfallen.

However, all interest was completely gone.

Chu Sheng withdrew his Divine Sense, leaning against the back of the chair with a trace of an inconspicuous smile at the corners of his lips.

The sound of the waterfall outside the window was still roaring, and the night breeze seeped in through the gaps of the window, dispersing the tea fragrance on the table a little.

At his Realm, he had long been able to forgo sleep.

However, with the Luochuan Waterfall outside, listening to the waterfall to fall asleep was quite nice.

Chu Sheng took off his outer robe, draped it over the back of the chair, lay down on the bed, pulled the quilt over his chest, closed his eyes, and prepared to sleep.

He still had serious business to handle tomorrow, so he needed to rest up and keep his spirits high first.

Just as Chu Sheng closed his eyes, he suddenly felt another extremely minute fluctuation of spiritual power emanating from a certain room on the second floor.

Someone was transmitting sound, and they were transmitting it very cautiously.

Chu Sheng opened his eyes.

His Divine Sense once again pierced through that layer of barrier.

An inconspicuous guest room in the Grade Yi area on the second floor.

The strength of that sound transmission was controlled just right.

Allowing only the receiver to hear it, while everyone else was isolated outside the range.

However, Chu Sheng's Divine Sense was several levels higher than this barrier, so he slightly adjusted the angle of his Divine Sense.

That voice immediately became clear.

"...This time the action is indeed not small. I heard that several Old Ancestors have all been dispatched. It's not an ordinary garrison; it looks like they are specifically heading toward the north."

said one voice.

The other voice fell silent for a few brief breaths, as if digesting the weight of those words, and then spoke in response.

"Matters regarding the Reverse Demon Tower?"

The first voice paused for a moment, as if weighing its phrasing.

Then he spoke a sentence.

"Hard to say. I heard that although that demonic Cultivator from the Reverse Demon Tower has caused quite a ruckus, our Wanxiang Sect doesn't seem to take him too much to heart. I heard that not only Elders have come, but also several Old Ancestor-level figures."

Speaking up to here, his voice lowered a bit more, "It is said to be about..."

His words were not finished.

Chu Sheng heard him pause, and then the sound transmission was interrupted.

That aura quickly retracted back into the room, as if the speaker suddenly realized he had said too much.

Chu Sheng lay on the bed without moving, still maintaining a steady breathing rhythm, but his sleepiness had dissipated by more than half.

He was not in a hurry to investigate the source of that sound transmission.

He simply kept his eyes open in the dark, running what he had just heard back and forth through his mind.

The Wanxiang Sect was making a big move, with several Old Ancestors dispatched, and their target was the north.

And it seemed to have no direct relation to the Reverse Demon Tower.

He did not continue to delve deeper, closed his eyes, readjusted his breathing, and placed himself back into that state of shallow sleep.

The next morning, just as the sky was turning bright, Chu Sheng woke up.

After washing up and changing his clothes, he went downstairs and sat for a while in the corner of the inn's lobby.

He drank a cup of tea and observed the flow of people entering and leaving the inn for a while.

He saw two young Cultivators wearing the standard robes of the Wanxiang Sect walking in from outside, looking as if they were waiting for someone or had just returned from handling matters.

Both of their cultivations were in the Spirit Sea Realm, their expressions were relaxed, and their paces were neither hurried nor slow.

It was these two.

Chu Sheng put down his teacup, stood up, and walked toward them.

As the two passed through the lobby, he naturally greeted them from the side and blocked their path.

The two stopped in their tracks, their gazes landing on Chu Sheng.

They looked him up and down, as if confirming whether he was here to strike up a conversation.

One of them spoke first, with a somewhat impatient tone: "Something the matter?"

Chu Sheng took out two bulging Storage Pouches from his sleeves, filled to the brim with Spirit Stones, and waved each of them in front of the two.

Then his tone carried a casualness as if casually mentioning it: "I'd like to make friends with you two. How about having a meal together?"

The gazes of the two lingered on those two Storage Pouches for a moment, then they exchanged glances.

The two impatiently took away the Spirit Stones, and then the person who spoke earlier softened his tone a bit.

The two figured that beneath the imperial capital and under the territory of their Wanxiang Sect, they presumed Chu Sheng would not dare to play any tricks.

Most likely, he was just trying to suck up to them.

"Where to?"

Chu Sheng led them to a restaurant in the east of the city that looked to be of quite decent grade.

Finding a private room, he ordered a large table of dishes, serving fine Spirit Beast meat, spirit fruits, and spirit wine, placing them in a circle across the table.

The two young stewards were a bit restrained at first, but after three rounds of wine, even their actions of picking up dishes became much more casual.

The content of their chat also gradually shifted from general pleasantries to specific idle gossip.

Chu Sheng quietly crushed two Gentleman's Word Medicinal Pills and mixed them into the wine pot.

The Gentleman's Word Medicinal Pill was an eighth-grade Medicinal Pill, after all. Those who ingested it would briefly lose their memories, which meant that no matter what you asked, they would answer the truth.

It was more than enough to deal with these two Spirit Sea Cultivators.

The color and scent of the wine had no changes whatsoever, nor was there any abnormal feeling after entering the throat.

What he poured for himself was a cup of unspiked tea, accompanying them in casual chat.

He only put down the cup in his hand after those two glasses of wine had each been completely drunk.

He asked a question as if casually mentioning it.

"Yesterday I heard someone say that several Old Ancestors of the Wanxiang Sect have all been dispatched to go north to handle some major matter?"

He paused, his tone carrying a sort of casual acknowledgment.

"I've also heard some rumors, but I'm not very clear on what's going on. Since you two are handling matters here, you should know more details than I do."

The two exchanged glances, their faces bearing the relaxation that only comes when asked a question right on point.

One of them picked up his wine cup again and took a sip.

"Those words? They're all just for bragging. At our level, how could we possibly know the movements of the Old Ancestors? We just heard a few words passed around by others and casually parroted them."

"When is it ever our turn as Spirit Sea Realm Cultivators to understand truly major actions?"

The other person also nodded in agreement, as if confirming that he truly had nothing else to add.

Sitting opposite them, Chu Sheng looked at the two's righteous expressions, temporarily unsure whether to laugh or get angry.

He spent a meal and two pouches of Spirit Stones, plus threw in two Gentleman's Word Medicinal Pills, yet the words he asked out were even less than what he had intercepted himself last night.

The two Spirit Sea Realm stewards simply believed whatever the wind blew; whatever others said, they followed along to spread, completely unaware of the true inside story.

He did not continue to press further, only nodding as if accepting this explanation.

"Hehe, that's true, fair enough."

The sound of the waterfall outside the window was still roaring; this imperial capital would never truly quiet down.

Chu Sheng leaned against the back of the chair and did not ask any further.
