268: Chapter 268 Forcing Through? Waiting for an Opportunity

Chu Sheng did not retreat any further.

He stood at the entrance of the small town, two zhu xian swords suspended by his sides, the dark golden Sword Qi pushing back the surrounding river water.

The Lord of the River stood on the high platform, looking down at him, the jade ruler in his hand emitting a faint green light.

"Little Friend, this is the last time I will say this. Your swords are not here. Leave, and I will not pursue this matter."

Chu Sheng did not speak.

He attacked.

The two zhu xian swords transformed into two streams of dark golden light, slashing toward the high platform from the left and right.

Wherever the sword light passed, the river water was torn apart, and two deep trenches appeared on the ground of the small town.

The Lord of the River raised his hand and waved the jade ruler gently.

A jade-green radiance shot out from the tip of the ruler, colliding with the two streams of sword light.

Boom—

The river water surged, and a section of the town's houses collapsed.

Those Resentful Soul Cultivators fled in terror in all directions.

Chu Sheng took three steps back, his palms stinging.

The Lord of the River remained motionless, but a faint sword mark appeared on the jade ruler.

He frowned.

"Good swords. It is a pity that there are only two."

His figure flashed, and he vanished from the high platform.

In the next moment, he appeared before Chu Sheng, smashing the jade ruler down toward his head.

Chu Sheng blocked with his swords horizontally but was knocked back dozens of zhang, his feet plowing two deep furrows into the ground.

A trace of blood spilled from the corner of his mouth.

The Lord of the River did not give him a chance to catch his breath.

The jade ruler swung repeatedly, each strike carrying the terrifying power of the Dao Completion Peak.

Chu Sheng fought while retreating, the two zhu xian swords weaving a net of swords before him, barely blocking the Lord of the River's offensive.

But every strike caused his blood to churn and his Meridians to ache.

"You only have two swords; you are no match for me." The Lord of the River's voice was calm, as if stating a fact.

Chu Sheng gritted his teeth and did not answer.

He knew the Lord of the River was telling the truth.

If all four zhu xian swords were drawn, he could fight a Dao Completion expert.

With only two, he could not even break the Lord of the River's defense.

The gap was too large.

The Lord of the River suddenly withdrew the ruler and stepped back, looking at Chu Sheng and shaking his head.

"Considering that your cultivation was not easy to attain, I will not kill you. Withdraw."

Chu Sheng stood in place, his knuckles white as he gripped the sword hilts.

He was silent for a moment, then turned and walked toward the outside of the small town.

It was not out of fear, but because continuing to fight was meaningless.

He needed time; he needed to retrieve the other two swords.

Walking to the edge of the Restriction, he stopped and looked back at the scholarly figure on the high platform.

"Senior, I will definitely retrieve those two swords."

The Lord of the River did not speak, simply waving his hand.

The Restriction cracked open, and Chu Sheng walked out.

Behind him, the Restriction closed, and the lights of the small town extinguished one by one.

Chu Sheng stood in the darkness, looking at that faint light barrier, and sat down cross-legged.

He was not leaving.

He would wait right here.

He did not believe that the Lord of the River could hide the swords forever.

He had exited the small town but had not left the bottom of the Duanhun River.

He stood in the river water, looking at the faint lights in the distance, his face ashen.

That strike from the Lord of the River had nearly shattered his protective Sword Qi.

The cultivation of a Dao Completion expert was indeed not something he, at the Spirit Nurturing Late Stage, could forcefully contend with.

Although he had the Heavenly Demon Body, the wendao bell, and the zhu xian swords providing layers of enhancement, the gap in Realm was there; the other party was a veteran Dao Completion expert.

The Lord of the River had no killing intent; otherwise, he would not have been able to retreat unscathed.

But Chu Sheng was unwilling to give up.

The two zhu xian swords had not been found yet; he could not just leave like this.

He thought to himself: The swords must be with the Lord of the River.

The Man in Black Robe stole the swords, dove into the river bottom, and entered the small town.

The aura of the swords was clearly here, yet the Lord of the River said, "They are not here."

Who was he trying to fool?

Chu Sheng gritted his teeth and decided not to leave.

On the high platform deep within the town, the Lord of the River stood with his hands behind his back, watching the faint dark golden light in the darkness.

The Man in Black Robe beside him lowered his head, his voice somewhat timid: "My Lord, that kid... still hasn't left."

The Lord of the River did not turn around, his tone as flat as if he were talking about the weather.

"I see."

The Man in Black Robe raised his head, wanting to say something but hesitating.

The Lord of the River was silent for a moment, then suddenly sighed.

"Good swords. Truly good swords." His voice was very soft, carrying a trace of regret, "It is a pity they are not mine."

The Man in Black Robe was stunned for a moment: "My Lord, those two swords..."

The Lord of the River raised his hand to interrupt him: "Those two swords are very important. That kid has the Heavenly Demon Body, carries the Luck of the Wendao Palace, and has that old thing standing behind him. Moving his swords would bring endless trouble."

"You do this..."

"..."

The Man in Black Robe lowered his head: "Yes."

The Lord of the River turned around and walked down the high platform.

Walking a few steps, he stopped and said without looking back.

"Pass down the order: martial law. Without my permission, no one is allowed to enter the town. Especially that kid."

The Man in Black Robe bowed in acknowledgment, his figure flashing and disappearing into the darkness.

The lights of the small town extinguished one by one.

Those Resentful Soul Cultivators on the streets returned to their houses one after another, doors and windows tightly shut.

A faint light barrier enveloped the entire small town.

The Restriction was extremely powerful; not even Divine Sense could penetrate it.

Chu Sheng stood in the darkness, looking at that light barrier, his expression turning even uglier.

He tried it; the zhu xian sword struck it, leaving only a faint mark that healed in a few breaths.

Forcing entry was not impossible, but it required time.

And time was something the Lord of the River would not give him.

Chu Sheng sheathed his swords, sat down cross-legged on the rock at the bottom of the river, and closed his eyes.

He thought to himself: I am not leaving.

I will wait right here.

Waiting for the Lord of the River to lower his guard, waiting for the Restriction to show a flaw.

He did not believe that the Lord of the River could hide the swords forever.

The river water flowed beside him, and Resentful Souls wandered in the distance, not daring to approach.
