217: Chapter 217 Flower Moon City, Deadly Scholar

Chu Sheng headed north, walking not particularly fast, but very steadily.

The land of the Demon Realm was black, as if scorched by fire, or perhaps soaked in blood.

The sky was grey, with no sun to be seen, only a thick layer of leaden clouds pressing down on his head.

Along the way, he saw many Human Race Cultivators being escorted westward by Demon Race soldiers; those Human Race Cultivators were in rags, their cultivation mostly in the Condensing True Essence stage, chained together and driven like slaves.

Chu Sheng stood by the roadside, watched for a few moments, and did not intervene.

It wasn't that he was cold-blooded, but he couldn't manage everything.

The Demon Realm abducting Human Race Cultivators as slaves and blood essence was not a matter of a day or two.

He was only one person; he could save a group, but he could not save the entire Demon Realm.

He lowered the brim of his hat and continued walking.

Old Grandfather said from within the ring: "You are certainly composed."

Chu Sheng replied: "Those who cannot keep their composure do not live long."

The Demon Realm was too vast.

With his Dao Palace Realm footwork, traveling a thousand miles a day was easy.

But after Chu Sheng had walked for several days and crossed a few cities, he discovered a problem—he was lost.

It wasn't that his sense of direction was poor, but the terrain of the Demon Realm was too chaotic; there were no road signs, no maps, and not even anyone to ask for directions.

He dared not recklessly spread his Divine Sense.

Once a Dao Palace Realm Divine Sense was released, it could be sensed within a thousand miles, but it would also attract the attention of other Dao Palace Realm Devil Cultivators.

This was the Demon Realm, not Wendao Palace; he did not want to be treated as someone here to challenge the sect.

Chu Sheng stood on a hill, looking at the grey horizon ahead, feeling a bit annoyed.

He had been wandering around the Demon Realm like a headless fly for two days, and hadn't even figured out the direction of the Wanmo Hall.

A massive city appeared ahead.

The city walls were built of massive black boulders, over a dozen zhang high, and carved with defensive runes, with faint spiritual light flowing over them.

The city gate was wide open, with two rows of guards standing at the entrance, possessing Spirit Spring Realm cultivation, wearing uniform black armor and holding long spears.

Two characters were carved on the lintel of the city gate: Huayue City.

Chu Sheng stood outside the city gate, looking at those two characters, and the corner of his mouth twitched.

Huayue City.

Madam Huayue, Devil King Huayue, early Palace Building stage cultivation, Blood Devil type, cultivated by absorbing blood essence, with countless paramours.

He had seen her in his last simulation, on the battlefield of the Righteous-Demonic War.

Her legion of paramours was wiped out, and Madam Baigu had blocked a fatal blow for her.

She had even tried to poach him in front of Yu Rumeng, saying something like, "This kid is not bad, lend him to me to use."

Of course, that was in the simulation.

This time, Madam Huayue did not know him, and he did not want to know her either.

But he needed a guide.

The Demon Realm was too large; he needed someone familiar with the terrain to lead the way.

Madam Huayue's city was the largest gathering place within thousands of miles; there must be the person he needed inside.

Chu Sheng suppressed the aura of the Wendao Sect completely, revealing only Spirit Spring Realm cultivation, neither high nor low.

There was a high probability that no one blind would come to cause trouble, like an ordinary Devil Cultivator, but not too conspicuous either.

He wore a dusty Daoist robe, his hat brim pulled very low, blending into the crowd entering the city.

The scene inside the city was completely different from the grey wasteland outside.

The streets were lined with shops selling Medicinal Pills, Magic Treasures, intelligence, and slaves; everything one could imagine.

Demon Race Cultivators walked back and forth on the street, with cultivation levels ranging from Qi Induction to Spirit Sea, and the noise of clamor, peddling, and arguing mixed together like a pot of boiling porridge.

Chu Sheng walked down the street, his gaze sweeping over those shops and pedestrians, searching for a reliable-looking guide.

"Make way, make way! Life-Taking Scholar is coming!"

A commotion came from the other end of the street.

Pedestrians scattered to both sides, like water being parted.

Chu Sheng stood in the crowd and did not move aside, only stepping to the side.

A young man walked over from the end of the street, wearing a snow-white robe, his hair tied up meticulously, and a long sword inlaid with gems hanging at his waist.

Just looking at him like this, one would really think he was an ordinary Human Race Cultivator.

But his skin was very white, white as porcelain, and his lips were very red, red as blood.

With early Sea Opening stage cultivation, his chin was held higher than his forehead, and when he looked at people, his eyes looked down from the bridge of his nose, and his nose looked down from his forehead, as if the entire street wasn't worthy of him lowering his head.

Life-Taking Scholar.

Someone nearby whispered: "This is the favorite in front of Devil King Huayue, very favored recently."

"Shh, keep it down, if he hears you, you'll lose your life."

"I heard he beat up a Demon General who blocked his way last week; not only did the Devil King not punish him, but she also rewarded him with a Magic Treasure."

Chu Sheng listened to these words, feeling no ripples in his heart.

An early Sea Opening stage paramour, competing for favor in front of an early Palace Building stage Devil King.

It had nothing to do with him.

He lowered his head and continued walking forward.

"Stop."

Life-Taking Scholar's voice came from behind, clear, with a sense of unquestionable command.

Chu Sheng did not stop.

Life-Taking Scholar said it again, his voice an octave higher: "This seat told you to stop, didn't you hear?"

Chu Sheng stopped, turned around, and looked at Life-Taking Scholar.

He did not speak.

Life-Taking Scholar sized him up, his gaze sweeping over Chu Sheng's dusty Daoist robe, and the corner of his mouth curled into an arc: "Who are you? You don't give way when you see this seat?"

Chu Sheng said: "I didn't see you."

Life-Taking Scholar's face sank.

He wasn't a fool; he knew Chu Sheng was fobbing him off.

But he didn't care; in Huayue City, he was the sky.

He took a step forward, Devilish Qi pressing towards Chu Sheng, the pressure of the early Sea Opening stage like a stone thrown into a pond, splashing ripples in circles.

Chu Sheng stood in place, motionless.

This kid was trying to show off.

Life-Taking Scholar frowned.

He increased the pressure, but Chu Sheng still didn't move.

He increased it to the maximum, but not even the corner of Chu Sheng's clothes moved.

"You..." Life-Taking Scholar's expression finally changed.

Chu Sheng said one sentence: "Move aside."

Then he reached out and pushed Life-Taking Scholar on the chest.

A light push, like pushing open a door that wasn't closed tightly.

Life-Taking Scholar flew backward.

He flew over ten zhang, crashed through the wall of a shop, and then through the back wall.

The noise on the street stopped instantly, and everyone looked at Chu Sheng.

"He actually dared to treat Life-Taking Scholar like this, is he tired of living?"

"Is he not afraid of the Devil King coming to settle the score?"

"I feel like he was able to easily push Life-Taking Scholar away, he is not some commoner either."

Chu Sheng ignored the restless onlookers of the Demon Race, clapped his hands, and turned to leave.

After walking a few steps, he turned back and said to the wall where Life-Taking Scholar was embedded: "Next time, don't block the way."

Then he turned and disappeared into the crowd without looking back.

Life-Taking Scholar's attendants pried him off the wall, pinched his philtrum, and fed him Medicinal Pill, and it took a long time for him to wake up.

Life-Taking Scholar sat in the ruins, his face as white as paper, his lips trembling, unable to say a word for a long time.

Someone nearby whispered: "Who was that person?"

No one answered.
