256: Chapter 256 Are you afraid? The Tuoba siblings

" The Dao that can be told is not the eternal Dao... "

Chu Sheng was guiding the Cultivators of Wendao Palace to Cultivate.

Just then, the Jade Slip lit up, and Hua Yue's voice sounded urgent, devoid of her usual lazy demeanor.

" Something has happened at the Golden Pasture. The devouring power of Gluttony is leaking, and the Demon Seeds in the pasture are rioting. The Blood God Sect can't suppress it, and even Demon Boy stepping in personally hasn't helped."

Chu Sheng frowned and put away the Jade Slip.

Ye Wuhen asked him what was wrong, and Chu Sheng said there was a bit of trouble in the Demon Realm and it would be a good chance to take you to see it for yourself.

Ye Wuhen's eyes brightened for a moment, but his face maintained that calm, composed expression as he faintly said, "Good."

Chu Sheng thought to himself: This kid, he's obviously excited to death, yet he insists on pretending. Let him be.

Just as he was about to set off, a transmission from Wendao Palace arrived.

The voice of the Peak Master of the Tenth Peak came from the Jade Slip, unhurried and slow.

"Elder Chu, an Elder from Wanxiang Sect has arrived and needs to handle some business in the Blood God Sect's territory. The Sect's intention is for you to accompany him and look after him along the way."

Chu Sheng was stunned: "Wanxiang Sect? What are they doing coming to the Northern Region?"

The Peak Master of the Tenth Peak said: "They say it's to investigate the matter of the Gluttony Legacy. You don't need to worry about what he's doing, just escort him there."

Chu Sheng cursed inwardly, but verbally agreed.

He thought to himself: The Righteous-Demonic War hasn't even started yet, and one by one they're all running to the Demon Realm. Do they really think the Demon Realm is their own backyard?

The Elder from Wanxiang Sect was waiting in Jin Xiao City.

Chu Sheng brought Ye Wuhen over and saw the man from afar.

He was short, thin as a bamboo pole, and wore a gray-white Daoist robe.

His face was sharp, his chin could serve as an awl, and his eyes were squinted into two slits.

He was at the Early Stage of the Palace Building realm, not strong, but not weak either.

Chu Sheng thought: Does Wanxiang Sect send someone like this because they don't care, or are they deliberately hiding their strength?

When the man saw Chu Sheng, he hurriedly came up to meet him, cupping his hands with a face full of smiles, his voice shrill like a eunuch's.

"This must be Elder Chu, right? I have heard so much about you! I am an Elder of Wanxiang Sect, surnamed Sun, with the given name Qian. You can just call me Old Sun."

Chu Sheng cupped his hands: "Elder Sun is too kind. This is Young Master Ye from Wendao Palace, Ye Wuhen, who is accompanying me for training."

Ye Wuhen nodded slightly without speaking.

Sun Qian glanced at Ye Wuhen, his squinted eyes widening slightly before quickly narrowing again, saying repeatedly: "Young Master Ye is truly talented, with a boundless future!"

Chu Sheng thought: This old guy, his mouth is as slick as if it were smeared with honey.

The three set off and headed toward the Blood God Sect's territory.

Sun Qian was a chatterbox; his mouth didn't stop the entire journey.

From the secret rumors of the Wanxiang Sect Sect to the gossip about the major Sects in the Central Region, from the illegitimate child of some Elder to another Elder's Dao Companion running off with someone else.

Chu Sheng listened, occasionally grunting in acknowledgment, thinking it was a pity this guy didn't become a storyteller.

Ye Wuhen followed behind, expressionless, but Chu Sheng noticed his ears were pricked up, clearly listening as well.

Chu Sheng thought: This kid, he's faking it.

After entering the Blood God Sect's territory, the sky grew dark.

The air was filled with a faint smell of blood, mixed with the stench of decay, like something rotting.

Chu Sheng slowed his pace, his hand pressing on the hilt of his sword, his Divine Sense spreading out to stay vigilant of his surroundings.

Sun Qian also stopped his chatter, his squinted eyes opening slightly to reveal pupils radiating sharp light.

Ye Wuhen's hand rested on the sword hilt at his waist, his knuckles turning white.

Chu Sheng looked back at him and said: "Don't be nervous. I'm here."

Ye Wuhen nodded, his fingers loosening slightly, but not completely letting go.

The Golden Pasture was located deep within the Blood God Sect's territory, a vast wasteland.

The ground was black and barren, with giant animal bones scattered everywhere, standing on the wasteland like white tombstones.

The air was filled with the strong, lingering aura of Gluttony, and black mist churned in the distance, like a sleeping behemoth breathing.

Just as Chu Sheng stepped onto the edge of the pasture, his Divine Sense sensed several auras.

They weren't from the Demon Race, but the Human Race.

He frowned and looked in that direction.

In the distance, a group of people was walking toward them.

Leading them was a young man with a sturdy build, a resolute face, wearing dark gold armor, with a broad sword hanging at his waist.

He was at the Peak of the Spirit Lake realm, with a thick, powerful aura like a mountain.

Behind him followed a young woman, her appearance somewhat similar to the man's, wearing silver-white soft armor, her long hair tied in a ponytail, with a slender sword hanging at her waist.

She was at the Peak of the Spirit Spring realm, her aura not as strong as the man's, but her eyes were very bright, revealing a calmness inconsistent with her age.

Behind the two were a dozen guards, their cultivation levels uneven, with the highest at the Spirit Sea and the lowest at the True Transformation Realm.

Sun Qian squinted at the newcomers and said in a shrill voice: "People from the Luochuan Kingdom. That man is Prince Tuoba Lie of the Luochuan Kingdom. The woman is Princess Tuoba Yanran."

Chu Sheng nodded without speaking.

Tuoba Lie also saw them, quickened his pace, walked over with large strides, and cupped his hands in greeting, his voice as loud as thunder.

"From Wendao Palace? I am Tuoba Lie of the Luochuan Kingdom. I have heard so much about you!"

Chu Sheng cupped his hands: "Outer Sect Elder of Wendao Palace, Chu Sheng. This is Elder Sun of Wanxiang Sect, and this is Ye Wuhen."

Tuoba Lie's gaze paused on Chu Sheng, then looked at Sun Qian and Ye Wuhen, asking with a smile: "Are you all here to investigate the Gluttony Legacy as well?"

Chu Sheng said: "Indeed. Are you as well?"

Tuoba Lie laughed loudly, his laughter echoing across the wasteland, startling a few unknown black birds.

"I won't hide it from Elder Chu, I am indeed a bit interested in the Gluttony Legacy. But since you all are here, I won't compete. I'll just follow along to gain some experience."

He spoke boldly, but the ambition in his eyes couldn't be hidden.

Chu Sheng thought: This guy says he won't compete, but who knows what he's plotting inside.

Tuoba Yanran stood behind her brother and hadn't spoken at all.

Her gaze swept over Chu Sheng, paused on Ye Wuhen, and then she withdrew it, expressionless.

Chu Sheng noticed her fingers tapping lightly on her waist in a rhythmic fashion, as if she were calculating something.

He thought: This sister is harder to deal with than the brother.

The three parties exchanged a few pleasantries, tacitly formed a temporary team, and walked toward the depths of the pasture.

Tuoba Lie walked in front, side-by-side with Chu Sheng, asking about everything from the cultivation methods of Wendao Palace to the situation of the Righteous-Demonic War, and from the Righteous-Demonic War to Chu Sheng's personal history.

Chu Sheng answered casually, thinking this guy certainly knew how to probe for information.

Tuoba Yanran walked behind, side-by-side with Ye Wuhen.

She suddenly spoke, her voice not loud but very clear: "Is this your first time in a place like this?"

Ye Wuhen glanced at her and said: "First time."

Tuoba Yanran nodded: "Don't stray too far from your Elder. This place is not for playing around."

Ye Wuhen didn't speak, but his hand gripping the sword tightened slightly.

Chu Sheng heard the conversation behind him, and the corner of his mouth curled up slightly.

He thought: This kid, he finally knows fear.

Deep in the pasture, the black mist became thicker and thicker.

The ground beneath their feet became soft, like stepping on rotten sponge, with every step sinking into a shallow footprint.

The air was filled with an unsettling aura, not Devilish Qi, but something more primitive and violent.

The devouring power of Gluttony.

Chu Sheng's skin began to tingle, and the speed of his spiritual energy circulation slowed down a bit.

He frowned, and the zhu xian sword in his Dantian vibrated slightly, causing Sword Qi to surge from his body, dispelling that sense of discomfort.

Ye Wuhen's complexion didn't look too good, and beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.

Chu Sheng looked back at him, reached out and pressed his hand on his shoulder, transferring a wisp of Heavenly Demon Body Devilish Qi to force back the devouring power invading his body.

Ye Wuhen's complexion recovered a bit, and he whispered a thank you.

Chu Sheng said: "Don't push yourself, if you can't hold on, just say so."

Ye Wuhen nodded, not pushing himself.

Tuoba Lie's complexion didn't look good either, but he gritted his teeth and didn't make a sound.

Tuoba Yanran took a jade talisman from her sleeve and crushed it, and a pale golden light shield enveloped her and Tuoba Lie, isolating them from the external devouring power.

Sun Qian squinted, took out a small flag from his sleeve, and waved it; a clear breeze blew away the surrounding mist, and he walked in the center of the wind eye, safe and sound.

Chu Sheng glanced at Sun Qian and thought: This old guy has quite a few treasures.

The team continued to go deeper.

The mist in front suddenly dispersed, revealing a huge cave.

The cave entrance was over a hundred zhang in diameter, like a huge open mouth, bottomless.

The ground at the edge of the cave was covered with dense claw marks and tooth marks, traces left by Gluttony gnawing in those years.

Black mist surged out from the cave continuously, carrying a primitive feeling of hunger that made one feel uneasy.

Tuoba Lie's eyes brightened, and he took a step forward.

Tuoba Yanran reached out and pulled him back, shaking her head.

Tuoba Lie stopped and looked back at Chu Sheng.

Chu Sheng stood at the edge of the cave, looked down, and frowned.

Deep in the cave, something was wriggling.

It wasn't alive; it was the residual instinct of Gluttony—the instinct to devour everything, which had not dissipated even after thousands of years of death.

Chu Sheng turned around, looked at Sun Qian and the Tuoba siblings, and said: "I am going down. What about you all?"

Sun Qian smiled with squinted eyes: "If Elder Chu goes down, this old man will go down too."

Tuoba Lie said: "I will go down too!"

Tuoba Yanran didn't speak, but she had already stood by her brother's side.

Ye Wuhen stood behind Chu Sheng, holding the sword hilt, without speaking.

Chu Sheng looked at him and asked: "Are you afraid?"

Ye Wuhen was silent for a moment, then said: "Not afraid."

Chu Sheng smiled, patted his shoulder, and turned to walk toward the cave.

"Let's go. Let's go down and see."

The few people behind followed, their footsteps echoing one by one across the vast, empty wasteland.
