111: Chapter 111 Mr. Ghost Presents His Pledge of Allegiance, the Great Demon King Secretly Clears the Field

The low hum of the drone drowned out the sound of gunfire.

Outside the East Gate, Major Zhao hid behind an armored vehicle, shouting into his walkie-talkie.

"Lock onto the breach at the East Gate!"

"Prioritize shooting Chu Feng!"

"Once he's dead, Jiang University will fall apart!"

On the earthen wall, the students' faces turned pale.

There were only two crates of Molotov cocktails left.

The machine gun had just swept and collapsed a corner of the earthen wall, and the mud and debris pinned two students' legs.

Someone tried to pull them out, but was stopped by a shout from Chu Feng.

"Don't panic!"

Chu Feng stood in front of the breach.

His chest heaved violently; the backlash from forcibly killing the two Espers earlier had not yet faded.

Xu Mengmeng supported him, her palms slick with sweat.

She glanced at the iron rod lying against the wall.

It had been left behind by a teammate from the javelin team who died yesterday.

If he were still alive, he could at least force the drone to fly a bit lower right now.

But the dead would not return.

The sound of the propellers grew closer.

A student cried out in despair, "Senior Chu Feng, what do we do?"

No one answered.

Bai Jingchen stood behind Chu Feng.

He crumpled the note with the words [Lin Yuan] written on it into a ball, his expression changing for the first time.

The next second, he suddenly looked up and shouted with all his might.

"Mr. Lin Yuan!"

"I know you are right here!"

The whole scene fell silent.

Bai Jingchen's voice was hoarse.

"I represent Jiang University and request your help!"

"After this, Mr. Ghost will personally visit Tiangong No. 1 to offer you our sincerity!"

When these words landed, both inside and outside the earthen wall erupted in chaos.

"Lin Yuan?"

"The Lin Yuan from Tiangong No. 1?"

"He's here?"

Major Zhao's expression shifted abruptly.

Of course, he had heard this name before.

Director Li Wenhui had ranted for half an hour during a meeting, saying that Lin Yuan was the largest private separatist force in Jiang City.

Lacking responsibility, unwilling to contribute, and having terrible conduct.

But he hadn't expected this person to be at Jiang University.

In the drainage ditch.

Lin Yuan leaned against the cold, damp concrete wall, his face covered in dust.

Fang Xiaoxiao was blocking in front of him, holding a short crossbow.

She didn't understand what Bai Jingchen was shouting, she only felt that the newcomer beside her was trembling even harder.

Lin Yuan kept his head down.

Bai Jingchen could determine his presence.

It wasn't through his eyes.

Nor was it through reconnaissance.

It was more like some kind of "hint."

This player was not stupid.

Publicly asking for help wasn't to force him to expose himself, but to offer a pledge of allegiance.

Lin Yuan looked up at the sky.

The drone had already descended.

Under its belly, the payload bay opened.

Major Zhao roared, "Fire immediately!"

A small missile ejected from the pylon.

At that very instant.

The stagnant water in the drainage ditch trembled slightly.

No one noticed.

A line of water shot out from the bottom of the ditch.

It was as thin as a thread.

It was so fast that only an afterimage remained.

It passed through the breach, through the flames, and beneath the drone's rotors.

Puff.

The water line pierced through the missile and the entire drone from bottom to top.

The drone paused in mid-air.

The next second.

Boom!

A fireball exploded.

The wreckage slammed diagonally into the abandoned teaching building.

An entire side of glass shattered.

The sound of the explosion made everyone's ears at the East Gate ring.

Major Zhao held the walkie-talkie, his mouth agape.

He hadn't seen who made the move.

He only saw the drone explode.

This kind of fear was more deadly than Chu Feng killing two Espers right in front of him.

"Retreat!"

Major Zhao's voice cracked.

"Retreat at full speed!"

"Jiang University has an unknown threat! Retreat!"

The armored vehicle immediately reversed.

The soldiers didn't even care about the wounded, dragging their guns as they retreated.

Someone tripped, scrambled up, and kept running.

The people who had been shouting "rebellion" just moments ago were now running faster than anyone else.

The East Gate of Jiang University was dead silent for a few seconds.

Then, cheers erupted.

"Mr. Ghost has revealed his power!"

"We won!"

"Jiang University won!"

Some cried and hugged their companions.

Some knelt on the earthen wall, kowtowing toward the direction of the Library.

Chu Feng did not shout.

He looked at Bai Jingchen.

Bai Jingchen did not look at him.

Instead, he turned around and bowed deeply toward a certain direction in the crowd.

Sweat beaded on his forehead, and he did not stand up immediately.

Because he didn't know if the man hiding in the crowd had accepted his sincerity or noted his offense.

Fang Xiaoxiao frowned.

Bai Jingchen was looking in her direction.

But there was only her and a newcomer sitting in the mud, holding an iron rod, with a pale face.

Coincidence?

Lin Yuan looked up, just happening to meet her gaze.

His voice was hoarse.

"Is it over?"

Fang Xiaoxiao stared at him for two seconds.

"It's over."

Lin Yuan nodded.

"That's good."

He lowered his eyes.

Keep Bai Jingchen for now.

Keep Chu Feng as well.

If this player was just a simple college student, the system was controllable, and he had attachments, then he could be kept around to play with.

After all, if a crazy woman like Shen Qingyue descended next time, along with an unknown system, killing her would be more troublesome.

The night deepened.

Jiang University did not hold a victory celebration.

Chu Feng arranged to repair the wall immediately.

"Add double-layer roadblocks to the East Gate breach."

"Hurry up and make more Molotov cocktails."

"Send all gunshot wounds to the basement."

Xu Mengmeng sat in a corner of the Sports Stadium, recording the list of the dead.

Every time she wrote a name, she paused.

The edges of the paper were stained red with blood.

Bai Jingchen returned to the Library, needing to review today's battle with his teammates.

Lin Yuan was brought back to the temporary base of Search and Rescue Team 3 by Fang Xiaoxiao.

It was an equipment room.

Gymnastics mats were laid out on the floor.

The fatty sat at the door, holding a shield.

The skinny guy was wiping a spear.

Ma Chao had been holding it in the whole way, and finally exploded.

"Xiaoxiao!"

He pointed at Lin Yuan.

"Why do you keep protecting him?"

Lin Yuan sat in the corner, head down, organizing his tattered canvas bag.

He didn't speak.

Smack!

Fang Xiaoxiao slammed her short crossbow onto the table.

"Ma Chao, do you really think I didn't see it?"

Ma Chao was stunned.

Fang Xiaoxiao looked at him.

"You pushed him into the line of fire."

The room went quiet.

The fatty blinked.

The skinny guy's hand holding the spear stopped.

Fang Xiaoxiao said word by word.

"The reason I didn't expose you on the spot is because, according to Senior Chu Feng's rules, betraying teammates on the battlefield is punishable by immediate execution."

"I was saving your life."

Ma Chao's expression changed.

"I was pushing him to get out of the way!"

Fang Xiaoxiao sneered.

"Do you want to check the surveillance at the East Gate?"

Ma Chao shut his mouth.

The fatty immediately stood up and grabbed the skinny guy.

"Let's go, let's go."

The skinny guy still wanted to persuade them.

The fatty lowered his voice.

"Let's not get involved in this childhood sweetheart drama."

The two of them slipped away quickly.

Only three people were left in the room.

Ma Chao's eyes were red, his voice dropping low.

"Xiaoxiao, I like you."

Fang Xiaoxiao didn't move.

Lin Yuan didn't move either.

Ma Chao seemed to have let it all out.

"I've liked you since I was a kid."

"Before, whenever you spoke to someone else, I felt terrible."

"Now that it's the apocalypse, you're still protecting a man you just picked up."

He pointed at Lin Yuan.

"Even if his face is dirty and his clothes are torn, it can't hide that he's handsome."

"I feel insecure, is that not allowed?"

Lin Yuan looked up at him.

This reason was truly absurd.

Was that supposed to be a compliment?

Fang Xiaoxiao was so angry she laughed.

"Ma Chao, you don't like me."

"What you like is that I listen to you."

Ma Chao was stunned.

Fang Xiaoxiao continued, "In peaceful times, you controlled who I ate with, what clubs I joined, and whether I saved stray cats."

"Now that it's the apocalypse, you still want to control who I save."

"You used 'liking me' as an excuse and almost got someone killed!"

"This isn't liking."

"This is possession."

The color drained from Ma Chao's face bit by bit.

He looked at Lin Yuan.

Lin Yuan sat there, as if he hadn't heard a thing.

The more he acted like that, the more it stung Ma Chao's eyes.

"Fine."

Ma Chao gritted his teeth.

"You're all so high and mighty."

He slammed the door and left.

Before leaving, he glared fiercely at Lin Yuan.

He turned into the darkness and headed toward the Library.

Bai Jingchen had said that Mr. Ghost liked "people who voluntarily confess their problems" the most.

The room quieted down.

Fang Xiaoxiao sat down opposite him, her shoulders slumping slightly.

Lin Yuan took an unopened bottle of mineral water from his tattered canvas bag and handed it over.

The bottle was very clean.

Fang Xiaoxiao looked at the water but didn't take it.

Lin Yuan said, "You saved me earlier."

Fang Xiaoxiao then took it.

She unscrewed the cap and took a small sip.

"Ma Chao and I lived in the same neighborhood since we were kids."

"Our families knew each other well."

"He got good grades and knew how to coax the elders."

"But his personality has always been like this—jealous and always trying to steal credit."

She looked at the bottle opening.

"After the apocalypse, this flaw became even more obvious."

Lin Yuan nodded.

"I can tell."

Fang Xiaoxiao looked up.

"You're not afraid of him, are you?"

Lin Yuan smiled.

"Being afraid is useless."

Fang Xiaoxiao looked at him.

This newcomer was very strange.

He seemed timid.

But every time he spoke, he didn't try to please anyone, nor did he beg randomly.

It was as if he had already gotten used to hiding his fear.

Just then.

The miniature communicator in Lin Yuan's ear lit up.

Su Xiaonuan's voice came through.

It was very low.

But it carried a coldness he had never heard before.

"Mr. Lin."

"Dr. Su and Teacher Xia have been taken hostage by survivors outside Tiangong No. 1."
