29: Chapter 29 "Is this your sincerity?"
The outskirts of the abandoned shipyard in the eastern suburbs.
A night rain was falling continuously.
The air was filled with a mix of rust and a sour, rotten smell.
A black george patton sped wildly across the uneven, water-logged road.
Inside the vehicle, Tank shifted his nearly two-meter-tall frame.
The tactical knife on his outer thigh knocked against the edge of the seat, making a crisp clinking sound.
"Boss, this car looks imposing from the outside, but why is the back seat like an iron cage? It's suffocating me," Tank muttered quietly.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Lu Yan didn't even turn his head, coldly rebuking, "Shut up. We're entering the perimeter of the trading zone; stay alert."
Five hundred meters ahead was a rusty gantry crane towering into the curtain of rain.
On the steel crossbeam at the top of the gantry crane, Chiba Rin lay prone in the cold, accumulated water.
Rainwater dripped along her sharp jawline, splashing onto her modified sniper rifle.
The numbers on the rangefinder flickered rapidly.
Wind 360/3, humidity 80%.
A cold expression appeared at the corner of Chiba Rin's mouth.
At this distance, with the target inside the car completely unaware, it was like shooting a stationary target for her.
With one hundred thousand dollars in hand, she would also have enough assessment points to be promoted to Chunin mid-year.
She pressed her throat microphone and reported in a low voice in Japanese, "Target locked. Countdown: 3 seconds."
Three seconds later, fireworks suddenly burst across the curtain of rain, drawing the attention of everyone nearby.
Chiba Rin slowly placed her index finger on the trigger and pulled it steadily.
Just 0.01 seconds before the bullet left the chamber, Lin Yuan's Mental Energy, reaching as high as 26 points, triggered a terrifying "Death Premonition."
A chill shot straight from his tailbone to his brain.
Without a moment's hesitation, Lin Yuan slammed his right foot onto the brake and yanked the steering wheel hard to the left with both hands.
The heavy off-road vehicle let out a screeching sound as tires rubbed against the wet, slippery road, and the car body fishtailed violently.
The three people inside were caught off guard and slammed hard against the inner walls of the vehicle.
Boom!
The sniper bullet tore through the bulletproof windshield, grazed past Lin Yuan's right shoulder, spraying a dazzling trail of blood, and finally pierced through the left side window.
Lin Yuan took advantage of the momentum to open the car door and rolled out.
"Sniper! High point at ten o'clock! Get out of the car!" Lu Yan roared.
The three of them didn't hesitate at all; they kicked open the doors and rolled out of the car.
Lu Yan, Tank, and Shadow positioned themselves in a triangular formation, using the vehicle as cover, and shielded Lin Yuan, who was clutching his shoulder beside the left front wheel, keeping him securely within their visual blind spot.
The three drew the Glock pistols from their waists and fired suppressive shots toward the suspected sniper position.
Through the scope, Chiba Rin stared at the empty driver's seat, her face full of disbelief.
Luck?
No!
The tactical evasion and suppressive fire from those three bodyguards were definitely not that of ordinary people!
Damn it!
The intelligence was seriously flawed!
Lin Yuan glanced at the bloodstain on his shoulder, which had already begun to clot.
The sharp pain didn't make him feel fear; instead, it completely ignited the brutality in his bones.
Since his rebirth, he had walked every step with extreme caution; this was the first time he had been face-to-face with death.
Before Lu Yan could speak, Lin Yuan's figure had already moved.
His leather shoes stomped on the water-logged concrete, creating shallow pits and splashing mud everywhere.
He charged directly into the curtain of rain, heading toward the gantry crane.
The conditions for sniping were completely lost, and Chiba Rin decisively whispered into her headset, "Mission failed. Evacuating."
Dropping the heavy sniper rifle, she quickly attached a zip line to the steel frame and leaped down.
The wind whistled in her ears.
Just as she slid down to about seven or eight meters from the ground, a dark shadow was already standing below her landing spot.
Chiba Rin was shocked.
How could this person be so fast!
Looking around, she saw Lu Yan and the other two flanking her from both sides; if she delayed for a few more seconds, her evacuation route would be completely sealed off.
A ruthless glint flashed in Chiba Rin's eyes.
She drew the tactical dagger from her waist and thrust it downward toward Lin Yuan's bleeding shoulder, attempting to use the pain from his wound to force him back and seize the opportunity to escape into the complex terrain of the shipyard.
Unexpectedly, Lin Yuan didn't dodge at all.
He reached out his right hand, and with a speed far beyond Chiba Rin's comprehension, he moved after her but arrived first, grabbing her wrist holding the knife.
He exerted force.
Crack!
The teeth-grinding sound of bone shattering was exceptionally clear in the rainy night.
Chiba Rin's wrist was snapped, and the dagger fell into the mud.
The intense pain made her open her mouth to scream.
But Lin Yuan raised his right leg, delivering a vicious knee strike that landed solidly on her abdomen.
A muffled sound of ribs breaking followed.
Her scream was cut off right in her throat.
Chiba Rin vomited a mouthful of blood and slammed heavily into the muddy water, losing all ability to resist.
From encountering the sniper attack to completing the counter-kill, it took less than thirty seconds.
The piercing sound of gunfire completely alarmed the inside of the abandoned shipyard.
Several strong beams of light crisscrossed, illuminating the surroundings as bright as day.
Accompanied by dense footsteps, a thin, gaunt old man with a blind left eye rushed out, leading fifteen or sixteen fully armed desperadoes.
All of them were armed with AK rifles, and the clicking sound of safeties being disengaged merged into one.
The dark muzzles were all aimed at Lin Yuan and the three of them, including Lu Yan, who had just arrived.
Inside the abandoned shipyard, the only sound at this moment was the ticking of raindrops hitting the gun barrels.
Lin Yuan ignored the dark gun muzzles.
Lu Yan, Tank, and Shadow had already occupied advantageous positions, with their guns locked onto several key firing points on the opposite side.
If a real gunfight broke out, he was confident he could snap the old man's shriveled neck before they could fire their third shot.
Lin Yuan bent down, grabbed Chiba Rin by the back of her neck with one hand, and tossed her casually, throwing her at the old man's feet.
"Lu Yan said you were reliable, so I brought money for the transaction," Lin Yuan said, glaring at the old man.
"Is this your sincerity?"
Old Ghost was stunned.
He looked at Lin Yuan's bleeding shoulder and then looked down at the woman on the ground.
Chiba Rin's black waterproof suit had torn during the impact, revealing a tattoo on the back of her neck.
Old Ghost's shriveled skin twitched twice.
This woman's tattoo was from the Japanese Ninja Guild.
To be able to take down an assassin of this level with bare hands, the young man before him was not simple.
"Pah!"
Old Ghost spat on the ground and took the opportunity to back down, "Put the guns down!"
His subordinates immediately lowered their guns in unison.
But their fingers, still resting on the triggers, did not loosen.
Old Ghost put on a smiling face, "Boss Lin, is it?"
Old Ghost recognized Lu Yan.
"This matter... I didn't clean things up properly."
"This woman's tattoo is from those people in the island country; I lost my eye to these bastards back in the day."
"Consider today you having vented some anger for me. Please, come inside!"
Lin Yuan followed Old Ghost into the dry dock inside the shipyard.
Lu Yan wanted to stop him; until it was clear that this female assassin really had nothing to do with Old Ghost, he didn't want Lin Yuan to take the risk.
But Lin Yuan glanced at him and lifted his chin, signaling him to follow.
Lu Yan had no choice but to bring Tank along, leaving Shadow outside on standby in case of any unexpected developments, so they would have backup.
Inside the dry dock, there were sunflower seeds and beer on tables everywhere, along with some scattered playing cards.
The air was filled with the smell of sweat.
Two squad machine guns even protruded from the crossbeams on the second floor.
Lu Yan whispered a reminder, "Boss, if they don't intend to play by the rules, we'll cover you while you rush out."
Lin Yuan waved his hand and naturally took a cigarette from his pocket and lit it.
The flame illuminated the bloodstain on his shoulder.
One of Old Ghost's subordinates subconsciously wanted to step forward to remind him that smoking was prohibited here, but Old Ghost's eyes turned cold, and he backhanded the subordinate with a slap, driving him back, before personally handing an ashtray to Lin Yuan.
The huge waterproof tarp was lifted.
Several dark green military wooden crates were neatly stacked.
"Everything Boss Lin wanted is here," Old Ghost said, pointing to the crates.
M16 assault rifles, tactical grenades, and ammunition belts.
A strong smell of gun oil wafted out.
Lu Yan stepped forward to inspect the goods.
He skillfully disassembled them, checked the rifling, and reassembled them; the whole process took less than ten seconds.
Lu Yan nodded at Lin Yuan, "Top-notch goods. Nothing has been tampered with."
Lin Yuan waved his hand.
After a while, Tank brought over a briefcase, placed it on the iron table, and popped the locks.
There were over a dozen stacks of greenbacks.
A greedy light erupted from Old Ghost's only remaining right eye.
His subordinates proactively stepped forward to count.
"The amount is correct."
Old Ghost closed the briefcase, feeling quite impressed by Lin Yuan's strength and financial power.
A dragon crossing the river.
"Boss Lin, don't blame me for being cautious; in our line of work, our heads are always on the line."
"I'll give you a 20% discount on tonight's goods. Consider the remaining money as a gesture of friendship."
Old Ghost was extremely slick in his dealings.
According to the rules of the underworld, injuries sustained by a buyer on his turf counted against him.
Reputation was important.
Lin Yuan had Tank and Lu Yan load the wooden crates onto the battered george patton.
"No need. Since the person wasn't yours, I won't hold this debt against you. Keep the goods well-stocked; there will be plenty of business for you in the future."
Walking out of the warehouse, Chiba Rin was still tied up outside in the rain.
Two of Old Ghost's subordinates were holding her down tightly.
A small chubby man carrying an extremely exquisite black briefcase trotted over from behind.
"Boss Ghost said that since Boss Lin didn't want the 20% discount, he hopes you will accept a little personal collection of his."
"People from the Ninja Guild have very tough bones. But since this is a Japanese woman, this thing can help you 'interrogate' her slowly!"
At Lin Yuan's signal, Lu Yan took the briefcase.
Lying on the ground, Chiba Rin's gaze, through the muddy water, was fixed on the logo on the black briefcase.
It was from a company on the Dark Web that specialized in developing potent drugs and tools targeting the physiological limits of women.
She had once seen someone in her organization use the items inside to turn a chaste, strong-willed woman who had undergone top-tier anti-interrogation training into a dog that only knew how to wag its tail and beg.
Fear, for the first time, pierced through this "Genin's" psychological defense line.
