105: Now, take money and do things.
David leaned back in his chair, his fingers gently tapping the tabletop, making a rhythmic sound.
He had anticipated their question long ago.
He looked at these future tools who would amass vast wealth for him and decided to give them a small shock.
"Because, after the Plaza Accord, the Japanese Yen is bound to experience a round of insane appreciation."
"No power in this world can stop it."
His tone was calm, yet it was as if he was stating an established fact.
Alonso and the others' pupils suddenly constricted.
Plaza Accord?
What was that? They had never heard of it!
David ignored their shock and continued.
"As for Microsoft, that's because the future of Eagleland lies in the internet. And Microsoft is the tollbooth on that highway to the future."
"Remember my words."
David stood up, looking down at them.
"Next year, October, around the 19th of that month, Wall Street will experience an unprecedented collapse."
"Later generations will call it 'Black Monday'."
"Your mission is to sell off all our stocks and Japanese Yen contracts before Black Monday arrives, not leaving a single cent."
"I don't need you to understand, I just need you to execute."
"Now, take the money and go do business."
With that, David turned and left, leaving the five men in the conference room, stunned as if struck by lightning, standing motionless.
They watched David's receding figure, their eyes having changed from reverence to utter awe.
This wasn't a boss.
This was a god walking among men!
Over the next few days, David completely relaxed.
He took the eager Julia and almost explored all of Los Angeles.
From the beaches of Santa Monica to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and then to various parties in Beverly Hills.
Of course, the
"role-playing" games at night were also constantly escalating. Innocent nuns, fiery racers, and even mysterious princesses from the East... until the morning of the fourth day.
David, clutching his faintly aching waist, struggled out of bed.
Looking at the woman next to him, still fast asleep and unbelievably energetic, he couldn't help but sigh.
"Damn it..."
"Do Western women have nuclear reactors in their bodies?"
"Who can withstand this?"
Today, the hotel's most luxurious conference hall was booked by a company to hold a so-called "DVD Cooperation and Exchange Conference."
Invitations were precisely sent to major Hollywood film companies through previously published advertisements.
Well-dressed men and women arrived one after another.
They wore name tags from different companies on their chests.
Paramount, Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox, Columbia... almost all Hollywood giants were covered.
Everyone had a hint of reserve and scrutiny on their faces.
"Hey, Richard, did Paramount also receive an invitation?"
"Of course, Tom. I thought it was some whimsical small company, but I didn't expect such a big spectacle."
"DVD? Sounds like some new videotape format, hopefully better than Sony's Betamax."
Among the crowd, besides these film company representatives, there were also a few shifty-eyed, low-key individuals mixed in.
They disguised themselves as film industry professionals, but their gaze was fixed on every detail in the venue.
Their true identities were spies from the VSH VCR and LD Laserdisc player industries.
They maintained the highest level of vigilance against any new technology that might threaten their market position.
"Is everyone here?"
David stood behind the monitor backstage, looking at the full conference hall, a curve forming at the corner of his mouth.
He was wearing a well-tailored Armani suit today.
His hair was meticulously combed, and his whole person exuded a powerful aura of being in control of everything.
Juan beside him nodded respectfully.
"Boss, according to the list, all invited companies have sent representatives. Also, I've found some... special friends."
Juan pointed to the restless "spies" on the screen.
David chuckled.
"Very good."
"Flies always fly over first when they smell blood."
"Let them watch."
"Today, I will let them witness with their own eyes the end of one era and the beginning of another."
With that, he straightened his tie, pushed open the door, and strode out.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome."
David walked onto the stage, behind him a huge screen projected the concise logos of Galaxy Electronics and "DVD".
His voice, amplified by the microphone, clearly resonated throughout the conference hall.
"I know your time is precious. Therefore, I don't intend to waste it on boring pleasantries."
He snapped his fingers.
Juan immediately understood, dimmed the lights, and activated a futuristic, all-black machine on the podium.
From the side of the machine, a tray silently slid out.
Juan placed a silver disc onto it.
The tray retracted.
Everyone's attention was drawn to this mysterious machine.
It looked much smaller than a bulky VCR and more technologically advanced than a delicate LD player.
"What is that thing?"
"Looks good, but I wonder if it's just for show."
The spy from the LD camp curled his lip, his eyes full of disdain.
The spy from the VSH camp quickly jotted down the machine's appearance and dimensions in his notebook.
The next second.
The screen lit up.
The familiar Star Wars opening, accompanied by that magnificent symphony, exploded!
"Boom—"
In the conference room, everyone felt a tingle on their scalps!
This sound quality! Rich! Clear!
Every note was full of power, surrounding their ears, as if they were in a real cinema!
This was a completely different world from the blurry, paper-thin sound effects of videotapes!
Even the LD player, known for its sound quality, seemed overshadowed in front of it!
However, the real shock was yet to come.
When the massive Star Destroyer slowly glided across the top of the screen, chasing the tiny Rebel spaceship.
The entire conference room fell silent.
Everyone's eyes widened, their bodies unconsciously leaning forward, mouths slightly agape, even forgetting to breathe.
So clear!
The image on the screen was incredibly sharp!
Every complex structure on the Star Destroyer's outer shell.
The cold glint reflected by the metal armor, even the tiny portholes on the side of the hull, were all clearly visible!
The laser cannon fire chasing behind, its beams bright and concentrated, without any blur or ghosting!
"My God..."
Paramount's representative, Richard, a senior producer over fifty years old.
Unconsciously took off his gold-rimmed glasses and rubbed his eyes, thinking he was hallucinating.
"Is this 720P?"
Warner's representative, Tom, his voice trembling.
As industry insiders, they were very clear about the concept of resolution.
Currently, the most mainstream VSH videotapes on the market only had a pathetic 480P resolution, with a blurry picture that hurt the eyes after watching for too long.
And the high-end LD Laserdiscs jointly launched by Philips and Sony could only barely reach 640P resolution.
Although better than videotapes, it still had a long way to go before reaching true "high definition."
But the image before them... its clarity completely crushed all products on the market!
"No, this is impossible!"
The spy from the LD camp turned pale and suddenly stood up.
"This must be playing from a professional film print! Civilian equipment could never achieve this kind of picture quality!"
