68: Boss, the Americans are here.
Hanging up the phone, David leaned back in his chair and said to Juan:
"Tell Pedro to keep Gomez steady and say that I will meet him tonight."
"Very well, Boss."
Juan turned and left, and the office returned to silence.
David's gaze fell back onto the screen.
Gomez was nothing more than a small fry.
Now, what he cared about more was who Washington would send to "make contact" with him.
In the presidential suite on the top floor of the Santa Cruz Royal Hotel.
The luxurious room was well-heated.
Gomez was shirtless, wearing only a bath towel, and was leaning comfortably on the sofa while holding a glass of expensive red wine.
The raid a few months ago was the nightmare of his life.
American military planes and armed helicopters blotted out the sky, and elite special forces descended from the heavens.
The drug empire he had painstakingly built for over a decade vanished into thin air in just a few short hours.
He took his last few trusted subordinates and crawled through the rainforest like a dog for over two months, eating insects and drinking muddy water.
Several times, he was almost discovered by search teams.
Just when he was about to despair, news of the Free Army's sudden emergence reached his ears.
Defeating an entire division of the Government Army!
Occupying Santa Cruz, the second-largest city in Bolivia!
Gomez immediately realized that his chance had come!
If the Government Army couldn't be relied upon, then he would cooperate with this mysterious Free Army!
He snuck into Santa Cruz and found the local mayor, Pedro, as soon as possible.
He believed that there must be a powerful financier behind this Free Army.
As long as he could establish a connection and buy high-quality weapons, he could make a comeback and be even more glorious than before!
He had already received Pedro's reply: the big shot behind the Free Army would come to see him that night.
Everything was developing in the direction he had planned.
However.
Just at this moment.
"Bang!"
An earth-shattering loud noise.
The thick suite door, made of solid wood and claimed to be bulletproof, was violently kicked open from the outside!
Wood chips flew everywhere!
Gomez opened his eyes abruptly, the comfort on his face instantly replaced by terror!
Without a second thought, he pushed the woman in front of him away and rolled over, wanting to grab a gun from behind the sofa.
"Bang!"
Another gunshot rang out.
A bullet grazed his scalp precisely, blooming into a flower of blood on his calf!
"Ah!"
Gomez screamed and fell to the ground, blood instantly staining the expensive carpet.
He looked up in terror and saw several armed personnel wearing black combat uniforms, masks, and night-vision goggles.
They were pointing their dark gun barrels at him.
A cold, murderous aura instantly enveloped the entire room.
A few muffled gunshots came from the next room, then it quickly returned to silence.
Gomez's heart sank to the bottom.
He knew that his trusted subordinates who had followed him for years were finished.
A man in black stepped forward, stepped on his bleeding calf, and pressed the muzzle of a pistol heavily against his forehead.
The cold touch made Gomez shiver all over.
The woman who had been serving him was already curled up in the corner, trembling in fear.
She couldn't even scream; she was quickly covered by another man in black and dragged out.
At this moment, a man without a mask walked in slowly from outside the door.
It was Jose.
He glanced at the disheveled Gomez, a playful smile appearing on his face.
"Mr. Gomez, our boss heard you arrived and specifically sent me to 'invite' you over for a chat."
Gomez stared fixedly at Jose, gritting his teeth as he asked: "Who on earth are you? People from the Free Army?"
"Smart." Jose snapped his fingers.
"However, you are no longer the powerful drug lord you once were. You are just a... stray dog."
"Right now, in Santa Cruz, we call the shots."
Jose squatted down and patted Gomez's face.
"Our boss isn't interested in your business, but he is very interested in your money."
"Two billion dollars."
Jose held up two fingers.
"Tell us the whereabouts of the money, and buy your life. It's a good deal, right?"
Gomez's pupils contracted sharply!
Two billion!
How could they know this number!
This was his last trump card, the entire capital he had prepared for his comeback!
His expression changed constantly, and he struggled as he said.
"I don't have that much money! My money was all seized by the Government Army! I only have two million dollars on me right now!"
"Two million?" Jose laughed, a very bright smile.
A man in black behind him didn't say a word, swung the rifle in his hand, and smashed the butt heavily into Gomez's stomach!
"Ugh!"
Gomez curled up like a shrimp, vomiting all the red wine and bile from his stomach.
The intense pain made him almost faint.
"It seems Mr. Gomez hasn't realized the reality yet."
Jose stood up and looked down at him, his eyes devoid of any warmth.
"It doesn't matter; we have plenty of time and plenty of ways to make you talk."
He waved his hand.
A man in black immediately stepped forward, took out a black cloth bag, and placed it over Gomez's head without hesitation.
Darkness descended instantly.
Immediately after, his hands were tied behind his back.
"Take him away."
Jose spat out two words coldly.
Like a dead dog, Gomez was roughly dragged up from the ground by two men in black and taken outside.
Santa Cruz, the Mayor's Mansion.
Unlike the tension and bloodshed at Gomez's hideout, everything here was peaceful.
Under the soft light, David was shirtless, lying on a soft lounge chair, enjoying a professional massage from a Bolivian beauty.
Warm essential oils accompanied the woman's nimble hands.
Wandering over his bronze skin, the perfectly applied pressure dispelled the fatigue of the past few days.
This life was much more comfortable than being a corporate slave in his original world.
"Boss."
Pedro's voice sounded at the door.
"Enter."
David didn't even open his eyes and responded lazily.
Pedro walked in quickly, saw the scene, and hesitated to speak.
David didn't need to look to know that expression; he waved his hand at the beauty behind him, signaling for her to leave first.
The beauty was very sensible, bowed, and quietly retreated.
"Speak, what matter has made you so rushed?"
David turned over, picked up a towel to wipe the essential oil off his body, and looked at Pedro with composure.
Pedro took a deep breath and lowered his voice, saying: "Boss, the Americans are here."
"The Americans?"
David raised an eyebrow, becoming interested.
These world police sure have a keen nose.
"Yes, it's them." Pedro's expression was very serious.
"They contacted me through secret channels, saying they wanted to establish a communication channel with us... with the Free Army."
"Expressing their 'goodwill' and hoping to strengthen cooperation."
"Heh, strengthen cooperation?"
David sneered and took a sip of the juice nearby.
"They talk a good game."
"They are here to probe our bottom line."
David pointed out acutely.
"They want to know what this Free Army that suddenly appeared is really made of."
"Whether we want to carve out a territory and act as a local warlord, or if we have bigger plans. Whether we are close to them, or close to their big rivals."
