76: Wild Boy
When the Beijing Film Academy semester started, Li Xiuwu was called to the office by Wang Jinsong as soon as he arrived at school.
"The great singer is here," Wang Jinsong said, looking at Li Xiuwu.
Li Xiuwu pulled out a chair and sat down on his own, waiting for Wang Jinsong to explain why he had been called.
"You kid, you're really composed, not like a young person at all," Wang Jinsong remarked. Usually, when students saw a teacher, even if they were confident and bold, they would naturally show a bit of awe.
"Teacher, you should just tell me what you wanted me for." Li Xiuwu placed the tea leaves he had brought on Wang Jinsong's desk.
Wang Jinsong's eyes lit up when he saw the packaging of the tea; this was very rare. He sniffed it through the packaging but couldn't smell anything, so he quickly put it away.
"What are your plans for this year?"
"What do you mean, what plans?"
"Is the play your company invested in ready to be filmed?" Wang Jinsong asked directly.
"Maybe, should be, probably, possibly, perhaps..." Li Xiuwu watched Wang Jinsong's face darken.
"Hehe, Teacher, from the sound of it, you have some resources to introduce to me." Li Xiuwu stopped teasing Wang Jinsong.
"I do, but they're all supporting roles," Wang Jinsong didn't hide anything.
"Let me see; a supporting role can be great too." Li Xiuwu wasn't obsessed with having to be the lead.
Wang Jinsong didn't hesitate and brought out several scripts.
Li Xiuwu sifted through a few and was surprised. Among these scripts, he saw several he recognized: home with kids, Judge of Song Dynasty, smoke and clouds of the capital, and the legendary twins.
"I can choose from all of these?"
"What are you thinking?" Wang Jinsong glanced at Li Xiuwu.
"The leads for these have mostly been decided; I can only help you fight for a supporting role."
Li Xiuwu sat there flipping through the scripts. The first one he picked up was the one he was most interested in, the legendary twins.
"This script is by Director from Hong Kong. The two male leads and several female leads have already been confirmed. If you want to perform, I can only help you fight for a supporting role," Wang Jinsong told him, seeing Li Xiuwu's interest in the script.
"I'll take a look first." Li Xiuwu continued to flip through the script.
This drama was nicknamed the "Survivor List." As he flipped through the script, it wasn't as tragic as the version he remembered, and Jiang Yuyan's characterization was not as well-developed.
He flipped through it briefly and put the script down.
"I want to try out for this Wild Boy." Li Xiuwu picked up the script for home with kids. It was a character that appeared in the first episode with not much screen time.
Wang Jinsong was very surprised. home with kids barely gave Li Xiuwu a chance to show off; he didn't expect Li Xiuwu to choose a role from it.
Actually, he was most optimistic about smoke and clouds of the capital, but Li Xiuwu hadn't even flipped through it.
Wang Jinsong opened the script of home with kids and looked at it. This character only appeared in the first and second episodes, with little screen time and nothing spectacular.
"Alright, I'll go put in a word for this role." Wang Jinsong agreed without hesitation.
With Li Xiuwu's current fame, playing a supporting role would only add prestige to the production crew.
"Do you have any other thoughts?" Wang Jinsong asked him.
Li Xiuwu was a bit shocked. Could he choose them all?
With this kind of treatment, Li Xiuwu finally felt a bit like a Holy Son of a sect.
"What did the teacher want with you?" On the first day of class, Li Xiuwu had been called away by the teacher. Jiang Yiyan was very curious, and others were curious too, straining their ears to listen.
"I asked for leave over the phone. I have a lot of things going on this year, so the teacher asked me to explain in person."
The classmates in the room were speechless. You're asking for leave on the first day of school?
Many people wondered to themselves if he had landed another TV series.
Liu Yifei kept her head down reading. She had already seen the script for flying immortal from beyond the heavens and thought Li Xiuwu was asking for leave for that.
On the first day of school, everyone chatted about winter break gossip. With the hit broadcast of demi-gods and semi-devils and the third round of reruns starting, everyone was very envious of Li Xiuwu and Liu Yifei.
Isn't a hit drama the dream of every acting student? Now that their own classmate had achieved it, everyone was incredibly envious.
Jiang Yiyan leaned in again, trying to get closer. Li Xiuwu turned around to chat with Zhu Yawen behind him, leaving Liu Yifei to deal with Jiang Yiyan.
"That song of yours is really amazing." Zhu Yawen gave a thumbs up. This New Year, he felt like Li Xiuwu was right beside him, saying wish you prosper every day.
Whenever he went out, Li Xiuwu's voice was in every shop and mall.
"Just luck," Li Xiuwu laughed.
He didn't care how much money the song made. Thinking that his voice would echo through the streets and alleys every New Year from now on, he felt it was quite interesting... During the time Li Xiuwu was in class, Qiu Wanjun released news that he was going to auction off the land he held.
Although land prices had doubled and soared, everyone could see that holding onto this land would only increase its value.
If one developed it themselves, the profit would likely be even higher. Although they didn't understand why Qiu Wanjun was letting go, no one had the heart to inquire. Real estate developers were all eager to snap up a piece of land.
The real estate circle suddenly became lively.
Qiu Wanjun handed the auction over to a professional auction company and called Li Xiuwu to ask if he wanted to participate.
"I won't be going." Li Xiuwu shook his head. The matter with Mr. Wu had just passed; it was important not to flaunt one's wealth.
It didn't matter if those at the very top knew, but he couldn't let those in the middle know, and certainly not those willing to take risks.
So, in the eyes of the public, he was just a newly famous artist; in the eyes of those familiar with him, his relationship with Golden Culture was ambiguous, but they didn't know the specifics.
On this day, lotus lantern was about to start filming, and Shu Chang was joining the cast.
"Brother, Xixi, I'm leaving now." Shu Chang waved to them.
"We'll come visit the set when we have time," Liu Yifei said to her.
"I'll remember that; you must come," Shu Chang said to Liu Yifei.
"Mhm." Liu Yifei nodded.
"Good friends always have to part," Liu Yifei said suddenly, watching Shu Chang's car drive away.
"We part so that we can meet again." Li Xiuwu gave Liu Yifei a flick on the forehead.
"So young, yet so sentimental."
"You're the young one! You hit me again!" Liu Yifei clutched her head and chased after Li Xiuwu.
The spring chill was biting, but the Courtyard House was different from the outside world; the flowers in the West Courtyard had already sprouted.
The two of them played around for a while, forgetting the sadness of parting. At noon, they sat at the door, staring at each other.
"Let's order food," Li Xiuwu sighed. Liu Xiaoli was out today, and Shu Chang had left, leaving only Li Xiuwu and Liu Yifei at home.
"I want corn and pork rib soup, braised eggplant..." Liu Yifei quickly ordered several dishes.
Li Xiuwu called the restaurant, looking at Liu Yifei sideways.
"What's with that look?" She looked at Li Xiuwu indignantly.
Li Xiuwu put away his phone. "You always say you're so smart, so why don't you learn how to cook?"
"Why should I learn?" Liu Yifei tilted her head up.
"If you don't learn, what will you do after you get married?"
"Why don't you learn?"
"I can find someone who knows how to cook!" Li Xiuwu said.
"I'll also find someone who knows how to cook!" She put her hands on her hips.
"You won't find one." Li Xiuwu was very certain.
"Why won't I find one?"
"Because I don't know how to cook."
