145: The Battle of Golbest (Part 2)
“Kedas, Master Tyrantier!” Ryan turned his head and saw the two most powerful figures in the city approaching from deep within the alley.
“Has Gorebest been dealt with?”
Tyrantier shook his head and said, “He got away.”
“I’m afraid Edmund also has similar methods; we might not be able to keep him even with today’s encirclement,” the Priest said.
“Let’s try the method I mentioned yesterday morning,” the young Lord said.
Kedas nodded and walked with Tyrantier towards the battlefield outside the alley.
“Kedas, we meet again!” Edmund looked fearless. “Good timing!”
Two Banishment Arrows shot towards the two of them.
As the two separately used divine and arcane spells to counter the magic arrows, Ryan followed them out of the alley. “Everyone except those staying to deal with Edmund, follow me! To the east to rescue people!”
With that, the young man led the Shield Guards, turned, re-entered the alley, and headed south.
“Dream on!” The Leader of Robbers fired two successive Volleys of Five Arrows, then leaped onto the opposite rooftop, pursuing them to the south.
Kedas and 10 other experts, along with the Water Elemental of the Water Sprite, dodged the arrows and also pursued Edmund.
“Tracking Arrow!” The magic archer fired an arrow that seemed to waver unsteadily, bypassing all obstacles on its path and flying straight towards Ryan.
Grom the Barbarian’s battle-axe created a blur, Rune Knight Ryan’s warhammer tried to smash the arrow, and several Shield Guards’ shields intercepted it, but the Tracking Arrow easily dodged them all, still flying towards the young Lord.
Ryan flicked his Red Tassel Spear, turning it into a blur of spear flowers. “Clang…” The slightly deflected arrow grazed Ryan’s arm, tearing his clothing, and embedded itself in a snowdrift beside the young man, leaving a splash of blood.
5 damage points!
Ryan looked at the wound on his arm where the arrow had grazed him, and a wave of relief washed over him.
A healing potion appeared in his palm, and he tilted his head back, drinking it down.
The wound on his arm healed at a visible rate.
As the escaping party was slowed by the Tracking Arrow, the Leader of Robbers quickly closed in on them.
“Snillo’s Snowball Swarm!” The moment Edmund stepped into her spell range, the Sorceress Edeline cast her spell. A crystal of ice shot from her hand towards another rooftop not far in front of the Leader of Robbers.
Edmund was already airborne, leaping towards that building’s rooftop.
Suddenly, a large number of magic snowballs erupted from the rooftop where the ice crystal struck, flying towards him.
The experienced Leader of Robbers twisted his body in mid-air, instantly dodging most of the magic snowballs. Only one peripheral snowball struck his shoulder.
Edmund’s movements were slightly delayed, and attacks from multiple people behind him arrived.
The Priest’s Light Guiding Arrow, a sacred beam of light, flew swiftly like lightning towards the Leader of Robbers, dealing 16 points of Radiant damage to Edmund in that instant of delay.
It left a faint, arcane glow on the target.
Tyrantier cast an Energy Drain spell, and several inky dark tentacles extended from him towards Edmund.
Amidst Edmund’s high-agility dodges, only one dark tentacle brushed his forearm.
8 points of Necrotic damage made the Leader of Robbers grunt again, and he flipped over, leaping onto the alley ground.
Kliir the Assassin’s poisoned dart clanged as it embedded itself in the wall.
Behind them, Resi the Forest Nymph summoned three Forest Wolf spirits, rapidly approaching Edmund.
The Water Elemental transformed into a torrent, gliding quickly over the snowy ground in the alley.
The Leader of Robbers, now on the ground, had no choice but to turn back and fire another Volley of Five Arrows at the people behind him.
The power of his arrows instantly sent the closest Water Elemental and the three Forest Wolf spirits back to their own planes, and the others also had to temporarily avoid their sharpness.
Ryan took advantage of the Leader of Robbers being entangled by the group and led his team towards the southeast.
But not long after, Edmund’s arrows pursued them again.
Ryan and the guard team had no choice but to turn and run southwest.
The three groups kept running and stopping, winding their way, intertwined, as they headed south.
A few minutes later, a battered Ryan and the guard team had reached the vicinity of the Old South Gate.
At this time, the city gate was wide open. Apart from a small number of city residents rescued by the guards who were still walking into New South City, the several thousand people previously gathered north of the gate had all been admitted into the eastern part of the New City by the guards who had returned earlier.
At this moment, there were very few people near the Old City Gate.
“Move aside! Quickly move aside! The Lord is returning to the city!” The guards shouted to the Old City Gate guards and refugees.
As Ryan and his party ran near the Black Panther Mall, Edmund also pursued them to outside the Old City Gate.
Just as he was about to step out of the city gate, an alarm bell rang loudly in the Leader of Robbers’ mind. He felt as if a giant beast was outside the city gate, mouth agape, waiting for him to walk into its trap.
As Edmund hesitated, the people behind him caught up.
The Priest’s Flame Strike, Tyrantier’s Negative Energy Flood, the Forest Nymph’s Mana Vines… various spells rained down on him.
The crowd, who had been some distance away just moments ago, suddenly surged forward. To avoid this wave of attacks, the Leader of Robbers could only temporarily retreat to the south.
The moment he entered the New South City, four invisible force fields enveloped him.
Various magical attacks also landed on the open ground north of the city gate.
“Hmph, petty tricks.” The disdainful Leader of Robbers looked around and pulled out a emeraldgreen leaf from his Pregnant.
After he crushed the leaf, a look of horror appeared on his face. “What’s going on! Why am I still here?”
He then raised his longbow and shot ripples into the increasingly close force field walls, but he could not damage the force field in the slightest.
Before long, Ryan returned with the guards from the south, and Kedas and the others from the north also approached.
“Kedas, how should this person be dealt with?” The young Lord asked, looking at the Leader of Robbers, who was confined to a one-foot square space by the force field wall, his face distorted by the pressure, unable to fire any more arrows.
“Kovenreid, what do you think?” The Priest looked at the Flame Fist commander.
“Execute him on the spot. It would be best to keep his head and send it to Baldur’s Gate,” Fuel Flame said.
“Kovenreid, you wouldn’t dare!” The Leader of Robbers’ roar came through.
“Why wouldn’t I dare?” Fuel Flame looked at him. “Let you escape again, only for you to come back and kill us?”
“We were colleagues after all…” Edmund’s tone suddenly became pathetic.
“I have no colleague like you!” Kovenreid shouted, stopping him. “Lord Ryan, execute him now!”
“This is easy.” As the young man’s voice faded, Ryan decisively swiped his fingertip through the air.
An invisible force field blade horizontally sliced towards the Leader of Robbers’ neck.
Edmund’s roar suddenly turned into a muffled sound like a bursting bubble, and the skin on his neck began to show unnatural wrinkles, as if an invisible blade had cut into his flesh.
His head then rolled to his own feet.
