36: Dire Wolf Siege 5

The morning sun slowly rose from behind the forest, and the heavy smell of blood intensified in the mist, growing thicker and thicker.

Streaks of sunlight began to penetrate the gaps between the tree crowns, scattering onto the mist and illuminating the southeastern mist with a red halo.

The Black Panther had more new wounds on its body, and so did the Wolf King and the other four Dire Wolves opposite it.

Blood stained the grass beneath their feet a crimson red.

The Wolf King howled up at the sky again, letting out an ear-splitting roar.

The Dire Wolves in the two traps struggled to climb out of the deep pits, covered in blood, yet their eyes burned with fanaticism as they resolutely advanced towards the Wolf King.

I noticed that in another trap, the Dire Wolf inside jumped up, showed its head, and then fell back down.

I quickly put down my bow and arrow and ran over. When I reached the edge of the pit, I happened to see this Dire Wolf leaping up again.

In a split second, I extended my left hand, communicated with the system space, and seven or eight boxes full of supplies crashed down on this Dire Wolf, smashing it back to the bottom of the pit.

At this moment, I noticed that not only the Dire Wolves inside the mist were eager to get close to the Wolf King, but the seventeen Dire Wolves outside the mist were also approaching the mist, seemingly all intending to get close to the Wolf King and surge into the chaotic area where the Black Panther was fighting.

Just then, a loud rumble came from behind me.

It turned out that one of the Dire Wolves that had been injured and jumped out of the trap earlier had crashed into another Magic Bean plant.

This time, it triggered a thundercloud trap.

A swirling thundercloud filled with lightning appeared, and with that Magic Bean plant as its center, it rapidly spread into a spherical area over six meters in diameter.

That Dire Wolf was completely enveloped by the swirling thundercloud, and one lightning bolt after another struck its body.

The already heavily wounded Dire Wolf did not last long enough to walk out of the thundercloud and was struck dead by the lightning.

The impact of the thundercloud trap being triggered was not limited to this.

The enormous thunder made the surrounding Dire Wolves terrified, and they all retreated.

The Wolf King roared, stabilizing the other Dire Wolves, but it itself did not retreat; instead, it charged forward, sprinting towards the direction of the thunder.

It broke through the fence and stepped into a small trap, but its momentum did not decrease at all.

The Black Panther shook off the other Dire Wolves and followed closely behind the Wolf King, charging in as well.

“Child, hide quickly, I’ll handle outside,” the Black Panther roared at me.

Once again, I understood the panther's language without casting a spell.

Watching the Wolf King and Black Panther charge in, I called Dragon King back and had the professor inside the door use Mage Hand to bring back the “green moon” +2 short hunting knife.

The moment I opened the door, the larger Black Panther crashed the Wolf King into the poisonous mist sphere.

Dragon King and I quickly entered the shed, promptly secured the door, and peered out through the crack in the door.

I saw the Black Panther attacking the Wolf King fiercely, regardless of whether it would also be contaminated by the poison gas, intending to trap it within the poisonous mist sphere.

The Wolf King howled again, shaking open a gap in the poisonous mist sphere, but what greeted it were the Black Panther's overwhelming claw strikes.

Who knew that at this moment, the poisonous mist sphere began to shrink, disappearing without a trace in an instant.

The duration of the poisonous mist sphere had ended.

The duration of all Magic Bean effects is 1 to 10 minutes.

From when this poisonous mist was triggered until now, it had been less than 2 minutes.

The Wolf King's howl just now had also shaken away some of the surrounding mist, and the Wolf King, appearing from the poisonous mist, regained its vision and could see the Black Panther.

It immediately launched a counterattack.

Caught off guard, the Black Panther was bitten on its forearm by the Wolf King. The Wolf King's pair of massive fangs began to glow with a faint red light, and soon after, the Black Panther's body rapidly shrank.

The Black Panther also realized the problem; it struggled desperately, leaping, but could not break free from the Wolf King's sharp teeth.

Its body quickly returned to its original size, and its eyes began to lose focus.

I heard the faint cries of the cub beside me.

I quickly communicated with the system and adjusted the mode of the protective force field.

Now, no sound from inside the shed could be heard from outside, no smell from inside the shed could be detected. No sight from inside the shed could be seen through the cracks either.

But from the inside, I could still see, hear, and smell everything outside.

Outside, the gradually collapsing Black Panther suddenly looked up and, like lightning, bit the Wolf King's neck.

The two enormous beasts became entangled, rolling and crashing into the shed, destroying several small traps, knocking over the sunshade, and colliding with the thundercloud.

The Wolf King, having been struck by several lightning bolts and already wounded, had lost half its life.

As for the Black Panther, it had been on its last breath for a long time; I don't know how it managed to hold on for so long.

Outside the fence, four Dire Wolves hesitated, unsure whether to follow the Wolf King or stay away from the thunder ahead.

Among the seventeen Dire Wolves outside the mist, seven were scared away into the distance by the continuous thunder, while the other ten stopped outside the mist.

During the fight, the Black Panther transformed again. This time, it not only broke free from the Wolf King's fangs but also, with a mouth twice as large, bit the Wolf King's entire head into its maw.

The Wolf King's blood flowed from the Black Panther's mouth, yet it was still not dead.

The Black Panther held the Wolf King's head tightly, using force to throw the Wolf King's body into the nearby spherical thundercloud, where it crashed to the ground.

Lightning danced like silver snakes, surging along the Wolf King's wet fur and into its internal organs.

The electric current coursed through the Wolf King's entire body, even conducting to its head. The bright flashes of lightning outside the spherical thundercloud—from within the Black Panther's mouth—lit up intermittently.

It let out a tragic shriek, which was also muffled within the Black Panther's mouth.

The Wolf King's dark red fur stood on end, burning into countless sparks in the electric light.

The Black Panther held the Wolf King's head tightly, allowing the crimson wolf blood to merge and be extinguished in the lightning.

The Wolf King initially struggled continuously, but its hindquarters could never break out of the swirling thundercloud's range.

The Black Panther kept its jaws locked on the Wolf King's head, refusing to let go, unaffected by either poison or lightning.

Without the Wolf King's summons, and with no one to clear the thick mist for them, the few Dire Wolves in the mist were once again enveloped by the dense fog.

I promptly adjusted the mist's form into winding corridors, luring them one by one into the remaining traps, and then had the fully recovered Dragon King and the professor's Mage Hand go out to finish them off.

Soon after, the Wolf King's body became completely still within that swirling thundercloud filled with lightning.

After a long time, the Black Panther's heavy footsteps sounded outside the shed. It carried the Wolf King's corpse, walking step by step towards the outside of the mist.

Seventeen Dire Wolves stood outside the mist. The continuous thunder rumbling within the fog made them dare not approach any closer.

Moreover, all their companions who had gone in had not come out, and now even their Wolf King was silent.

Just as the pack of Dire Wolves stood together, unsure whether to advance or retreat, the Black Panther stumbled out of the mist.

At this moment, the Black Panther had returned to its original size, and each step left crystalline blood lotuses on the grass.

It threw the Wolf King's charred corpse from its mouth in front of the wolf pack and roared loudly at them.

Seeing the Wolf King dead, and facing the scarred Black Panther, not a single one of the seventeen Dire Wolves dared to confront its might.

The remaining wolf pack let out a mournful howl, then turned and fled northward as if for their lives.

After we eliminated the remaining Dire Wolves in the mist, I expanded the mist's coverage, then slowly walked to the Black Panther's side.

The morning sun was like blood, and the blood-soaked morning mist slowly flowed through the forest.

When my trembling fingertips touched the Black Panther's cold nose, it still maintained a protective posture, and its cold blood stained the dewdrops on the green grass crimson.

The morning breeze swept over its many wounds, and the dewdrops it carried sparkled among its erect fur, as if a shattered galaxy was dispersing from this magnificent body.

The last light in its golden eyes had already melted into the sky, into those lingering stars that were about to fade.
