6: Vows and Treatment
Wizard Wedell’s face contorted, his eyes glinting with unchallengeable authority.
The white-bearded old man, who was about my height, slammed his staff heavily onto the ground.
The sound of the staff tip striking the ground echoed in the cave for a long time, as if even the air trembled.
His voice was hoarse, a sharp, high-pitched sound, as if forced from deep within his throat:
“You must swear by your life, by your soul, to Corellon Larethian, the Elven God!”
His voice reverberated through the cave, and the walls seemed to respond to his command.
The dripping sound from deep within the cave suddenly ceased, and the moss on the rock walls began to squirm eerily.
Recalling it now, those glowing mycelia were forming elvish oath runes at the time, as if the entire cave was a living contract scroll.
Everyone’s gaze was fixed on me, their expressions exceptionally serious.
I was a bit bewildered, muttering to myself, “It’s just an oath, is everyone this serious?”
“Alright!” I replied, my voice slightly dry.
“Al…alright.” My throat rolled, and cold sweat soaked the back of my clothes. The arrow wound in my chest throbbed with each heartbeat.
“Ryan, by his life and soul, to Corel…Corel…” I tried to repeat his words, but the name of that god was truly difficult to pronounce and remember.
“It’s Corellon Larethian! The Elven God!” Wizard Wedell almost roared, his face flushed red, clearly furious at my lack of seriousness.
“Right! Right! I, Ryan, by my life and soul, swear to Corellon…what’s-his-name!” I tried again, but still couldn’t say the full name.
“Larethian!” Everyone shouted in unison, their voices making my eardrums hum.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down.
Clearly, this oath was crucial to them, and I couldn't treat it so lightly anymore.
“I swear to Core…llon…Larethian, the Elven God.” I said, enunciating each word, trying to make my voice sound solemn.
The cave finally quieted down. Wizard Wedell’s expression softened slightly, but he still stared at me, as if confirming whether I truly understood the weight of the oath.
At this moment, Female Mage Lavinia suddenly asked, “Which deity do you believe in?”
I was startled, and asked blankly, “Do I have to believe in a certain god?”
“An Unbeliever!” Both mages almost simultaneously gasped, as if I had said something blasphemous.
Lavinia coughed twice and continued, “Don’t you know? After an unbeliever dies, their soul will be nailed to the Wall of the Faithless, enduring pain and torment forever.”
Everyone nodded in agreement.
“After death? Wall of the Faithless?” I murmured softly.
Wizard Wedell snorted, clearly impatient with my ignorance:
“Hmph! It doesn’t matter if you don’t know!
As a Half-elf, as long as you swear to Corellon Larethian, the Elven God, you will also be under his jurisdiction. Continue to swear!”
His tone was unquestionable, as if commanding a mischievous student.
I nodded, took a deep breath, and tried to make my voice more solemn:
“Alright, alright. Ryan, by his life and soul, swears to Corellon La…rethian, the Elven God.
After I receive your treatment, I will do my best to help you bring the sacred object to High Priest Alton of the Creek Valley Village…”
When I finally completed the oath, the atmosphere in the cave seemed to lighten considerably.
Everyone’s faces showed a look of relief, as if a heavy stone that had been weighing on their hearts had finally been lifted.
Pastor Gary and the hunter Alton exchanged glances, then walked over to me.
Their gazes fell on me, with an indescribable sadness and determination in their eyes.
Pastor Gary gently patted my shoulder and whispered, “We will do our best to save you.”
Alton tightly gripped my shoulders to prevent me from struggling due to the pain.
The Pastor took a deep breath, his hands grasping the arrow embedded in my chest.
His movements were light, but I could feel his tension.
“Are you ready?” The Pastor leaned down slightly and asked softly, revealing a subtle hint of concern.
I nodded, gritting my teeth. Although I was mentally prepared, when the arrow was pulled out, the intense pain still made me unable to suppress the scream that escaped my lips.
In an instant, my entire body involuntarily trembled violently.
Large beads of sweat rolled down my forehead.
At that moment, the Pastor unhesitatingly stretched out his hands, pressing them firmly onto my wound, and then began to softly chant the incantation for healing divine magic.
His voice was deep and powerful, as if it contained some mysterious force.
With his incantation, a warm light surged from his hands, seeping into my wound.
After a while, I felt the wound on my chest begin to heal rapidly, the pain gradually lessened, and my breathing became smoother.
The Pastor then cast another similar divine spell.
His healing divine magic was remarkably effective; my body felt enveloped by waves of warm energy, and even my spirit became much lighter.
Seeing that I was recovering, Pastor Gary thought for a moment and then cast his last remaining divine spell on me—Disease Removal.
His palm gently pressed on my forehead as he softly chanted the incantation.
A soft light flowed from his palm into my body, like a clear spring washing over my internal organs.
I never expected that such an inconspicuous low-level divine spell at the time would completely clear various viruses from my body, saving me in the future, and even saving this world from a big trouble.
After all, in this world, the viruses in my body could potentially lead to unpredictable consequences.
“You’re alright now.” Pastor Gary sighed in relief, stepped back a few paces, and sat back down on the ground.
His face was somewhat pale, clearly indicating that the continuous use of divine magic had placed a greater burden on his already exhausted body.
I tried to move my body and found that the wound might have already healed.
When the itching sensation from the wound completely disappeared, I touched my chest and looked down carefully; it seemed that not even a scar was left.
Even the previous injury on my shoulder was completely healed.
What a magical world! And magical spells!
I looked at Pastor Gary gratefully, but he just smiled tiredly and said nothing more.
Wizard Wedell walked over, his expression still serious, but with a hint of gentleness in his tone:
“For the next few days, cough…we will teach you as much as possible. Although there isn’t much time, it will at least give you some ability to protect yourself in the future.”
I nodded, feeling both nervous and excited.
I never expected that after hitting rock bottom, things would turn around. Although I was passively drawn into a series of dangers after transmigrating, now these experts were willing to actively teach me skills.
Even if I could only learn for a few days, it would be of immense help for my survival in this unfamiliar world.
