35: Dire Wolf Siege 4
The Dire Wolf King's dark red fur shimmered in and out of sight within the slowly flowing mist.
Each step it took left a massive claw print on the ground, sharp as a blade, piercing through the curtain of mist, as if it were a moving volcano.
On its massive wolf head, a pair of scarlet eyes gleamed with chilling light.
Its huge fangs protruded, and saliva dripped from its mouth onto the grass blades on the ground.
The Dire Wolf King walked through the thick fog, steadily advancing towards the Black Panther's position while letting out howls, summoning other Dire Wolves lost in the mist to gather around it.
The Dragon King's white jade-like scales almost blended with the mist, carving out ghostly trajectories in the sea of fog.
The sounds of Wind Blade tearing through the air and wolf howls rose and fell.
When the first gray-backed Dire Wolf was struck into a dazed state by a Wind Blade, the Professor's Mage Hand, which had been hiding nearby, quickly moved, gripping the "green moon" +2 short hunting knife, and fiercely slashed at its throat.
As blood bloomed at its throat, the Dragon King flew above another Dire Wolf, continuing to spew Wind Blade.
To the northwest, three Dire Wolves had already fallen into traps, and I had the Professor use a spear to deal with them one by one.
At this moment, two Dire Wolves had already gathered around the Dire Wolf King.
It didn't stop, leading these two Dire Wolves to continue from the northeast towards the Black Panther's location in the southeast.
When the Dire Wolf King passed by the Dire Wolf that had been enduring the Dragon King's Wind Blade but stubbornly hadn't been knocked out, it suddenly leaped up, its thick, massive claws striking at the Dragon King like lightning.
My heart was greatly alarmed, and I quickly warned the Dragon King, but the unsuspecting Dragon King in the air had no time to dodge and was sent flying by a single claw strike.
A system prompt sounded, indicating the Dragon King was injured.
I quickly checked the Dragon King's status through the system; its health had dropped by half.
15/30, 16/30, 17/30…
Fortunately, the system energy was rapidly restoring its health.
I cautioned the Dragon King to be careful, not to be attacked by the Dire Wolf again, and to fly further away first, then go attack the two Dire Wolves that had been circling in place to the north.
At this moment, the Black Panther bit the neck of the Dire Wolf it was fighting, shaking its head vigorously, and this Dire Wolf was finally bitten to death.
However, the Black Panther's body also gained a few more bloody wounds.
The Dire Wolf King suddenly raised its head and let out a long howl, the sound waves pushing away the thick fog in front of it as if it were a physical force.
The Black Panther's blood-stained figure appeared in the cleared space.
The Black Panther's size was comparable to the Dire Wolf King's, and at this moment, it was covered in blood, looking back at the Dire Wolf King.
...
At the same time:
Besides the three Dire Wolves that had already converged with the Dire Wolf King, there were three more Dire Wolves rapidly advancing, following the Dire Wolf King's howls;
One of them was heading directly towards a trap outside the fence, on the verge of falling into the concealed pit;
Of the four Dire Wolves frightened away by the Smoke Giant, two fell into the large traps outside the fence wall by following the path I had set;
Another one, upon stepping to the edge of a trap, seemed to sense something was wrong and leaped up, but fell into another large trap inside the fence wall;
And one more, which happened to have no large pit-type trap in front of it, I guided it towards a Magic Bean spell trap.
“Pfft…”
This Magic Bean plant, when triggered, had a poisonous mist effect.
Centered around the Magic Bean plant, a yellowish-green highly toxic mist rapidly spread.
A spherical poisonous mist over 6 meters in diameter completely enveloped this Dire Wolf, like an opaque yellowish-green glass ball, with a small amount of similarly colored smoke swirling on its surface.
This Dire Wolf suddenly switched from a world of pure white to a yellowish-green environment all around it, and was instantly stunned.
While it was dazed, more toxic gas entered its lungs.
I vaguely saw its tail swaying at the edge of the toxic gas.
When it realized the toxic gas had entered its body, it did not continue forward, but instead chose to retreat two steps, then tried to turn around in place.
It had lingered too long in the toxic gas shield and began to convulse violently in the yellowish-green mist, blood foam Spurting from its mouth and nose turning into wisps of green smoke in the toxic gas.
When it stumbled out of the yellowish-green smoke, it was already foaming at the mouth, and then collapsed to the ground.
On the other side, after the Professor used a flying spear to dispatch a Dire Wolf in a pit, he began to rush to the Dire Wolf in the next trap.
When the Dragon King flew above a Dire Wolf, its health had mostly recovered.
I took the opportunity to walk to the edge of the toxic gas sphere, took out all remaining ordinary arrows and self-made beast tooth arrows from my system space, one by one extended the arrowheads into the toxic gas shield, watching them quickly become coated with a layer of deadly glowing green.
Just as I started taking out arrows, the Dire Wolf King had already leaped into the air, pouncing towards the Black Panther.
The Black Panther suddenly spun around, its figure vanishing instantly; I couldn't see any trace of it in the mist.
The Dire Wolf King pounced on nothing, then let out another long howl, and the mist in front of it dissipated again.
The Black Panther's figure fell from the void.
“Is this similar to my stealth skill?” I thought.
The Dire Wolf King and three Dire Wolves pounced on the Black Panther together.
“Roar…”
The Black Panther's roar generated a wave of air, and its fur suddenly bristled into steel needle-like crystalline clusters.
Its figure expanded by nearly double in a magical glow, standing majestically like a small mountain, its head already much higher than the mist.
“This must be some kind of magic skill!” I had always suspected the Black Panther was a magical beast.
All of the Black Panther's wounds seemed to have shrunk, and it swung its massive claws, the wind pressure generated by their movement producing a whooshing sound.
One Dire Wolf was swatted out of the mist's range and crashed into a fir tree.
The Dire Wolf King, however, ghost-like, circled behind it, opening its gaping maw to bite the Black Panther's hind leg.
The Black Panther seemed to have been prepared, anticipating the Dire Wolf King's move, and kicked its hind leg towards the Dire Wolf King in advance.
The Dire Wolf King twisted its body, evading to one side, but still received a gash on its cheek from the massive panther claw.
At this moment, the other two Dire Wolves in the thick fog also appeared around the Black Panther.
One of them stepped into two small traps along the way, but it climbed out of both, only suffering minor fur damage, nothing serious.
The other one was closer to the Dire Wolf King, arriving smoothly by its side.
At this point, the Black Panther was 1v5.
Amidst the Dire Wolf King's howls, four Dire Wolves pounced on the Black Panther together.
The Black Panther roared loudly again, and its movement speed and strength seemed to increase once more.
Several Dire Wolves were swatted away again.
I couldn't intervene in the battle raging around the Black Panther.
So I picked up an arrow soaked in toxic gas and shot it at a lone Dire Wolf.
This was a Dire Wolf that had been circling in place from the beginning.
It neither followed the path I set for it leading to traps, nor dared to force its way through the dense fog wall after hearing the Dire Wolf King's summons.
Later, the appearance of the Fog Giant also didn't scare it into the path leading to the traps.
I didn't have time to ponder why.
After my poisonous arrow shot at it, the Dragon King, having dealt with the Dire Wolf next to it, also flew over and began spewing Wind Blade at this Dire Wolf.
The Dire Wolf King let out another deafening howl; in addition to the Dire Wolves inside the mist struggling to approach it, this time seventeen Dire Wolves outside the mist also began to gather towards the Dire Wolf King's position.
