34: Dire Wolf Siege 3

The scent of blood meandered through the mist, and before the Dire Wolf that lagged half a step behind, I skillfully manipulated the mist to create different scenes.

The mist around it rapidly condensed, becoming thicker, yet in one direction I intentionally left open, the mist gradually thinned, forming a faint “passage.”

Soon, that Dire Wolf lost contact with its companions, and only in the direction I set, the scent of blood grew stronger, instinctively driving it to step into that “passage.”

Finally, I successfully separated them, guiding them to run into two wide pit traps respectively.

I then focused my attention on the Dire Wolf I had previously attacked, continuing to blast its head, face, and forelegs with Ray of Frost.

By the time we dealt with these two Dire Wolf, the other two had also fallen into the traps.

Inside the two large, deep pits, a row of sharp wooden stakes pierced into their flesh, firmly pinning them to the bottom of the pit, unable to move.

I took two long spears from the system space and threw them to the Mage Hand controlled by the professor.

As the professor used the long spears to pierce through the Dire Wolf's belly and throat, the Wolf King let out a loud howl.

The remaining ten Dire Wolf began to run away from the mist.

I quickly adjusted the shape of the mist, instantly enveloping five slightly slower Dire Wolf in the northwest direction.

I quickly adjusted the shape of the mist, instantly enveloping five Dire Wolf that lagged a step behind in the northwest direction.

Then, using the scent of blood and fresh air from outside, I lured two of them into the repaired trap pits.

Another Dire Wolf was jointly slain by the Dragon King and the professor, who arrived just in time.

There were also two that did not run towards the passage to the traps I had set, also because the locations of those two traps were a bit further away, and they crashed around wildly, actually running out of the mist.

Of the sixteen Dire Wolf originally surrounding the mist, only six now remained at large.

Their positions were already beyond the farthest distance my mist could currently cover.

After dealing with the Dire Wolf in the traps with long spears, I used the Qiankun Ring to collect the wolf corpses in the pits into the system space one by one.

At this moment, the other Dire Wolf whose throats were torn began to fall to the ground one after another.

The vitality of these creatures is truly formidable!

The professor and I ignored them, seizing the time to restore the four traps from earlier.

As the fourth trap was restored, a faint meow-like sound came from behind my ear—the little leopard was born!

I quickly ran back to the black leopard's side, only to see a tiny grayish-black furball behind it, with its umbilical cord still connected to the placenta.

The black leopard seemed too weak to deal with the umbilical cord and placenta itself, so I took out a dagger, cut the umbilical cord, and then took out a thin blanket from the system space to wrap the little leopard and hold it in my arms.

The little thing's eyes were tightly closed, its fluffy little body curled into a ball, looking very frail.

Its entire skin was a light rose-purple, and its sparse grayish-black fur looked nothing like its mother's.

Its faint cries were almost inaudible unless one listened closely.

I carried the weak little one to the black leopard, and the little leopard stretched its short legs, its soft paw pads touching its mother's face.

The weak black leopard trembled its whiskers at the corner of its lips, and I seemed to see a smiling expression on its face.

Its golden eyes looked at its daughter, then at me, and then its gaze shifted to its own underside.

I understood, and carried the little one to the black leopard's teats. The cub quickly found the source of food, drinking its mother's milk with wide gulps, eyes closed.

I placed the blanket under the cub and looked up to observe the movements of the Dire Wolf. The two groups of Dire Wolf had merged, totaling thirty-four.

The Wolf King led the merged wolf pack and returned to the front of the mist again.

The black leopard propped up its upper body and turned to look at the wolf pack.

“I'll take your child to the shed,” I said to the black leopard as I picked up the cub, “Now you can enter my system space.”

I raised the ring towards it, but the black leopard still lay there motionless.

Why was it unwilling again? If the other party didn't agree, I couldn't put a living creature into the system space.

“Can you walk now?” I continued to ask, “Let's walk in together.”

The black leopard just stared at the approaching wolf pack, giving me no reaction.

I thought to myself: Is it because it doesn't understand my language?

The Animal Communication spell I used yesterday had not yet recovered.

So I decided to settle the cub first, then guide the mother leopard.

I carried the cub back to the shed, took out a small empty wooden box from the system space, laid several layers of blankets inside, and gently placed the little one in.

As I disregarded the cub's whimpering and returned to the doorway, outside, the black leopard had already leaped over the fence and begun to tear at the Dire Wolf.

Soon after I returned to the shed, thirty-four Dire Wolf had already reached the vicinity of the mist.

This time they stayed far enough away, half of them surrounded the mist in place, and the other half, including the Wolf King, seventeen Dire Wolf, simultaneously rushed into the mist.

My greatest fear had finally come true.

The black leopard seemed immune to the mist, and it knew the location of my traps.

It dragged its broken body, leaped out of the fence, crossed the traps, and began to fight with the nearest Dire Wolf.

Even with its severe injuries, the feline's flexibility still allowed it to move like a startled swan under the wolf's bite.

In the past, three to five ordinary Dire Wolf attacking together would never have been its match.

However, the mother leopard was now covered in wounds, and having just given birth and lost too much blood, her agility, strength, and reaction speed were no longer what they used to be.

It fought the Dire Wolf fiercely, and although it still had the upper hand, it couldn't avoid new wounds being inflicted upon it from time to time.

I communicated with the Dragon King, telling it to use Wind Blade to deal with one nearby; I also communicated with the professor, telling it to be ready to deliver the finishing blow at any time.

I bolted the shed door behind me and once again took out the mist crystal, creating a mist maze for the other Dire Wolf.

Outside the fence and inside the fence, there were six intact large traps each, and the inner courtyard also had six Magic Bean spell traps.

I tried my best to conceal the black leopard's scent of blood, using the scent of leopard blood on the grass as bait, and created eighteen thin mist passages leading to traps for the remaining fifteen Dire Wolf.

Four of these passages were prepared for the Wolf King.

This Wolf King was still too cautious; it didn't take any of the four passages.

Instead, it searched for the black leopard's roars and plunged into the dense white wall of mist.

Subsequently, the Wolf King let out howls, summoning the other Dire Wolf to converge on its position.

Apart from the two entangled by the black leopard and the Dragon King, four other Dire Wolf also began to enter the denser mist wall, moving towards the Wolf King's direction.

Another five wandered around in the passages for a while before also entering the mist wall.

I adjusted the mist's form again; the dense mist around these nine Dire Wolf rapidly thinned, then re-condensed into several tall, weapon-wielding human figures, poised to attack them with huge spears.

It worked as expected; faced with the suddenly appearing mist giants, four of the nine Dire Wolf were scared back, re-entering the passages leading to the traps.

The other five still plunged into the dense smoke.

Of the other five, two Dire Wolf were circling in place, and three had already fallen into the outer traps.

At this point, the Dragon King and the professor had just finished off the first Dire Wolf.

I told the Dragon King to entangle another one nearby and told the professor to deal with the three Dire Wolf that had fallen into the traps.

The five Dire Wolf running towards the Wolf King did not know that between them and the Wolf King were the fence and a dozen or so traps, large and small, both inside and outside the wall.

At this moment, as the Wolf King passed by the Dragon King, it suddenly leaped up, its thick, powerful claws striking the Dragon King like lightning.

I hastily warned the Dragon King in my mind, but the unprepared Dragon King in the air had no time to dodge and was sent flying by a single claw.

The system prompted that the Dragon King was injured.
