21: Wizard's Shack and Familiar
In the afternoon, after two trips for timber, I began constructing the Wizard Shack.
Alton had explained to me how to build a hunter's shelter in the forest, and I had even more detailed instructions in the notes he left me.
This Wizard Shack, according to the blueprints and descriptions in the The Complete Book of Mage Buildings, was much simpler to build.
First, I dug three circular pits, about a meter away from the anchor stones.
Then I selected three sturdy fir tree trunks to serve as the main supports;
One end was inserted into the pit, while the other stood upright, spiraling with the other two trunks to support each other, securely fastened with ropes.
I jumped up, wrapped my hands around the connection point of the three beams, and hung there, pushing down hard, feeling that it was very solid.
Next, I drew an arc between every two tree trunks and dug many shallow pits of varying sizes along the arc.
Then I selected slightly thinner tree trunks, inserted one end into the larger shallow pits, and rested the other end on the junction of the thickest tree trunks. Then I secured them with ropes.
The basic framework of the Wizard Shack was complete.
It was a conical shape with a base diameter and height of about 2 meters.
Next, I dug a drainage ditch both inside and outside the framework.
The excavated soil was piled at the base of the wooden walls and compacted with an axe.
After doing all this, I was utterly exhausted. Looking at the calluses on my hands, if this were before the transmigration, I would definitely have gotten blisters.
Looking at the sun already setting in the west, I gritted my teeth, knowing I needed to finish building it as quickly as possible.
The remaining work would be easier.
I selected some thicker branches for the wall material, and except for the south-facing doorway, I filled and secured all the gaps between the other tree trunks with them.
Then, from the material pile, I took out several thin blankets, fixing two to the inside of the wall and using one as a door curtain.
I attached the oilcloth from the wooden box to the outside of the door curtain for rain protection.
Then, using several more pieces of oilcloth, I wrapped the exterior of the shack's walls.
Next, I secured branches with leaves to the surface of the shack, both for warmth and camouflage.
I made a movable door from branches and installed it on the outside of the doorway, adding a simple branch latch that could be opened or locked from the inside or by reaching in from the outside.
Finally, I also inserted some leafy branches into the door.
This shack was now considered complete, though it could not yet be called a Wizard Shack.
The setting sun elongated the shadows of the fir trees into sharp spikes, pinning them onto the scattered logs.
The sunlight cast a golden outline on the 'structure' beside it.
At this moment, I was inside the shack, holding a small knife, carving magical runes onto the three beams.
Then, on the ground, around the anchor stones, I drew runes representing the four elements of fire, water, wind, and earth.
As the branch in my hand drew the final stroke, the system's mechanical voice sounded at the opportune moment.
"Host has completed System Task Two. Reward has been issued."
Accompanied by a faint dragon's roar, a small white jade dragon burst forth from the starlight emanating from the anchor stones.
This was a white Eastern Dragon, only about ten centimeters long. But its dragon head, horns, whiskers, claws, and tail were all present.
The white jade dragon scales shimmered with iridescent light, faintly showing a five-colored glow.
When this little-finger-thick white dragon fully materialized, it remained flying in mid-air.
I curiously extended my hand towards it.
It tilted its head, its intelligent eyes watching me, then flew towards me.
The small white dragon circled my wrist once, then lightly landed in my palm.
Its touch was cool, yet it gave me a feeling of great closeness.
I gently stroked its horn, and the little white dragon affectionately rubbed against my finger.
It had been too long since I had interacted with anyone.
Such a spiritual creature, feeling so intimate, made me unable to resist interacting closely with it for a while.
I silently chanted 'System' in my mind, then opened the attribute panel.
Sure enough, besides my own attributes, there was now an additional Pet Attribute Panel.
[Pet]
This pet was molded using the host's special genes as a template and the system's most core pure energy.
[Category]: Neutral Energy Body
[Name]: To Be Named

[Skills]: Athletics 16, Combat 10 (Proficient in Melee and Ranged), Perception 10, Stealth 8
[Movement Speed]: Flight 12 / Crawl 3
[Block]: 6
[Toughness]: 10
[Attack Methods]:
- Claw Attack (Damage Value is Strength + 1d5)
- Bite (Damage Value Strength + 2d18)
- Tail Whip (Damage Value Strength + 1d3)
- Constrict (1d8 per second)
- Wind Blade (Can spray one Wind Blade 1 to 2 times per round, causing 1 to 6 points of damage. The hit target must make a save check, otherwise, they will be stunned for 1 to 6 seconds.)
Level: Level 1
Defense Level: 0
Health: 30
Magic Resistance: 50%
Special Skills:
- Shapeshifting Dragon
The pet can transform into other forms of pets after leveling up (possessing corresponding special abilities after transformation).
- Devour
Anything the pet devours will be teleported into the system space, except for living creatures, unless willing. Living creatures can survive in the system space for a maximum of 6 seconds.
Similarly, the pet can also spit out anything from the system space.
- Qiankun Bag
The host can request an energy scale from the pet to serve as another entrance/exit to the system space.
Control: This pet only obeys the host's commands. It is telepathically connected with the host, and it can receive the host's silently chanted commands without obstruction.
This is too powerful. It's only this tiny now; how formidable will it be when it grows up?
Its combat capability not only instantly kills me, but its combat methods are also very diverse.
More importantly are its special skills.
The Shapeshifting Dragon skill clearly has immense potential; Devour and Qiankun Bag make it a mobile spatial treasure trove.
"Pet, pet, you're so formidable, how about I call you Dragon King from now on?"
The little white dragon seemed overjoyed to hear my words, nodding its head repeatedly at me.
"Dragon King, give me an energy scale."
The little white dragon nodded again and used its tiny claw to remove a scale from its abdomen and place it in my palm.
It patted its belly, and the system energy seemed to have grown a new one for it.
I looked at the extremely tiny dragon scale in my palm, emitting a five-colored halo, and used the item identification skill via the system energy.
[Qiankun Bag
This is a dragon scale gifted by Dragon King to Ryan, serving as another entrance/exit to the system's usable space.
The host can use the dragon scale as a medium to put in or take out items whose size does not exceed the system's usable space.
The current maximum usable space is 2.05 cubic meters.
This dragon scale can be molded into any shape according to the host's will.]
After reading the information, I couldn't wait to try and see what it could transform into.
