31: Chapter 31 Old Man's Joy Modified Supercar

The index surged directly past the 3,500 red line zone.

The LCD screen flickered violently.

With a soft "pop" sound.

The screen went completely black.

A smell of burnt electronic components drifted into the air.

Chen Hao let go of his hands.

The tester's overload protection program was forcibly triggered, and the fuses were all blown.

Old Zhou was so scared that he hurriedly dodged backward.

"Why is this machine smoking!"

Old Zhou pointed at the smoking test bench.

"Chen Hao, are you crazy! This is an imported piece of equipment we bought for three million! You just shoved a brick into it and it burnt out?"

Chen Hao turned his head.

He stared fixedly at Old Zhou, his chest heaving violently.

"Old Zhou. It wasn't the battery that burnt out the machine."

Chen Hao's voice had changed completely; his hoarse tone revealed an extreme sense of suppression and madness.

"It was this high-end piece of imported junk, the tester."

"It simply couldn't handle the peak data of this battery. It was scared into a system crash by the massive energy flow."

Old Zhou stamped his feet in anxiety.

"Don't give me those high-sounding terms! I'm just a rough guy, I don't understand them!"

Old Zhou waved his hands.

"I'm only asking you one thing. What exactly is the level of charge inside this ugly, heavy black brick?"

"Give me a straight answer. If this thing were installed in an electric car on the market, how far could it go? Could it run for eight hundred kilometers?"

Old Zhou's question voiced the innermost thoughts of all the female workers present.

Everyone stared intently at Chen Hao's mouth.

Chen Hao reached up and wiped the sweat off his face.

He straightened his body.

He looked at Old Zhou with an extremely contemptuous gaze.

Then he extended his right hand and held up four blackened fingers.

"Four hundred kilometers? That's nothing special. The new ones from Tengfei Electronics can run six hundred."

Old Zhou pursed his lips.

Chen Hao slowly shook his head.

"Four thousand?"

Old Zhou shuddered, his voice cracking suddenly.

Chen Hao lowered his hand and swept his gaze across the room.

"Everyone."

"If you take this battery, which is only the size of a brick, without any series or parallel connections, and install it directly into the most ordinary car on the market."

Chen Hao gritted his back teeth, spitting out each word one by one.

"Starting from the highway toll station in our Jiang City."

"Floor the gas pedal and speed all the way."

"Drive all the way to the westernmost plateau border, four thousand kilometers away."

Chen Hao pointed at his own chest.

"If this car needs to stop to charge for even one second in between."

"Then count me, Chen Hao, as a piece of trash!"

The entire Workshop No. 2.

Was deathly silent.

Even the sound of people breathing had stalled.

A brick weighing a few pounds.

Four thousand kilometers of range.

Modern electric cars drag around huge battery packs weighing hundreds of kilograms that occupy the entire chassis, yet they only reach a limit of seven or eight hundred kilometers.

Yet this ugly thing they pressed by hand.

Can run four thousand.

What does this mean?

This means that the technology held by all the capital giants in the world working on new energy has turned into scrap paper at this very moment.

"Thump."

Old Zhou's legs went weak.

He fell directly onto the hard concrete floor.

Zhang Xiufang's mouth hung open; she didn't even feel the pain when the wrench in her hand dropped onto her instep.

Big Mouth Liu slapped his own face hard.

"Smack." It was loud. But he just grinned foolishly.

Da Biao, outside the crowd, blurted out a curse.

Lu Chen looked at Old Zhou, who was sitting on the ground and trembling.

He stepped forward.

He reached out and picked up the black brick from the test bench.

It was ice-cold to the touch.

It contained terrifying energy capable of destroying the world, yet not a single bit of heat radiated from the outside.

Lu Chen casually tossed the battery to Da Biao.

Da Biao scrambled to catch it and held it tightly in his arms.

"Da Biao."

Lu Chen turned his head.

"Bro. I'm here!" Da Biao held his breath.

"Go. Get that beat-up car, the one the logistics cafeteria uses every day to haul rotten cabbage leaves."

Lu Chen threw an unlit cigarette into the trash can.

"Drive it into the workshop."

Da Biao drove the car into Workshop No. 2.

A smell of aged slop drifted over instantly.

This was the second-hand car the cafeteria specifically used to haul rotten vegetable leaves and swill.

The left headlight had long been shattered, barely patched together with two strips of yellow transparent tape.

The exhaust pipe underneath was more than half rusted away, shedding iron flakes whenever the wind blew.

The most impressive part was the door; after closing it, Da Biao had to specifically lift his foot and kick it hard before hearing the latch click into place.

Old Zhou hurriedly covered his nose and retreated three steps.

"Mr. Lu, we have over two hundred million in our account. Do we really want to take this thing to the product launch?"

Old Zhou simply couldn't understand this kind of logic.

"Can't we just go to the biggest dealership in Jiang City and pick up a top-tier supercar worth ten million?"

"A good horse deserves a good saddle. If we drive this piece of junk over, the security guards at the convention center won't even let us through the front gate!"

Lu Chen walked over and yanked open the driver's side door.

He reached out and disgustedly patted the black grease that had accumulated on the seat over the years.

"Old Zhou. If I buy a top-tier supercar worth tens of millions and install this battery to compete."

Lu Chen turned back to look at Old Zhou.

"If we win, people will say it's because the supercar has a good chassis and low aerodynamic drag. They will praise the car for being awesome. That's just icing on the cake."

Lu Chen lifted his leg and kicked the shriveled, cracked tire.

"But if I go with this swill-hauling car."

A cold glint appeared in Lu Chen's eyes.

"Right in front of everyone, turning their proud million-dollar luxury cars into a pile of scrap metal. That's what it means to take a dump on the necks of capital."

Chen Hao rushed over, carrying an oxy-fuel cutter and leading a dozen college students.

"Boss. How should we modify this junk car?"

Chen Hao's eyes were bloodshot.

"Don't mess with any fancy appearances."

Lu Chen pointed at the rusty hood.

"Tear out all the useless parts inside for me. Jam that black brick in tight. As long as it can conduct electricity and run, that's all that matters. Understand?"

"Understood! Get to work!"

Chen Hao turned around and roared.

A dozen students jumped directly onto the front of the car.

The subsequent actions were extremely rough and barbaric.

No one bothered to unscrew bolts; Chen Hao directly used the oxy-fuel cutter to cut through the mounting brackets.

Sparks flew everywhere.

The old internal combustion engine was forcibly ripped out by two iron chains and slammed heavily onto the concrete floor nearby.

The old, gasoline-smelling fuel tank was also kicked three meters away by Big Mouth Liu.

Chen Hao, wearing goggles, crawled directly under the chassis.

"Big Mouth! Bring the thickest rebar! Weld it shut for me!"

Chen Hao shouted at the top of his lungs from under the car.

Several steel bars as thick as a thumb, used for constructing buildings, were quickly handed over.

The welding torch burst with blinding light, forcibly welding an extremely rudimentary metal tray onto the chassis beam.

The solid black brick containing terrifying energy was moved over, its size fitting perfectly into the tray.

"Go to the scrap pile outside! Bring over the drive motor from that scrapped heavy-duty truck from yesterday!"

Chen Hao crawled out from under the car, his face covered in black soot.

Two students ran over carrying a massive high-power motor covered in oily sludge.

There was no precision reduction gearbox, nor any electronic speed limiting system.

Chen Hao took two of the thickest copper cables, wrapped one end tightly around the positive and negative poles of the black brick, and welded the other end directly onto the motor's terminal posts.

Even the most basic chassis protection plate wasn't installed. As long as you lay on the ground, you could clearly see that ugly black brick exposed in mid-air.

The overall structural safety factor was worthy of a hearse. There was a risk of it falling apart at any moment.

"Boss, the circuit is forcibly connected."

Chen Hao threw away his welding helmet and wiped his sweat with his sleeve.

"The torque of this heavy-duty truck motor is too insane, and the iron body of this car is too light. The power is absolutely overflowing without limits. But..."

"But what?" Lu Chen asked.

"There are no buts."

Chen Hao grinned, revealing a mouthful of white teeth.

"As long as the tires don't fly off, this car can take flight."

Lu Chen walked to the passenger side, pulled open the broken door, and sat right in.

"Bro! Let me drive!"

Da Biao excitedly darted into the driver's seat like a monkey, his two thick hands gripping the steering wheel, which had already worn away its leather.

"Fasten your seatbelt tight."

Lu Chen clicked his seatbelt into place.

Da Biao hurriedly pulled over his seatbelt and plugged it in.

"Ignite." Lu Chen said.

Da Biao reached out and turned the tattered car key.

There was no engine roar like that of a fuel-powered car.

Instead, there was an extremely sharp, ear-piercing high-frequency motor whine.

The sound was so piercing that all the ladies around covered their ears.

"Floor it."

Lu Chen looked straight ahead.

Da Biao slammed his right foot hard onto the gas pedal.

Or perhaps it should be called an accelerator pedal now.

Within a thousandth of a second.

A terrifying, unreasonably massive electric current surged out from the black brick, instantly piercing through the heavy-duty truck motor.

"Bang!"

This wasn't the sound of an exhaust pipe.

This was the explosive sound produced by the tire rubber being unable to bear the load.

This old, beat-up car had no concept of a smooth start.

It was like a cannonball that had been hit hard with a hammer, blasting straight out.

The two inferior rear tires spun and skidded wildly in place.

Instantly, a thick cloud of white rubber smoke and a pungent burnt smell rose up.

The hard concrete floor of the workshop was gouged into two black trenches over an inch deep.

Gravel flew backward, hitting the wall with a loud pattering sound.

The car body jolted violently.

It shot out barbarically.

"Damn!"

Da Biao pressed hard against the back of the cheap fabric seat, his whole body firmly pinned down by this domineering, massive inertia.

"Bro! My internal organs are about to be crushed!"

Da Biao's eyes instantly bloodshot, veins popped on the back of his hands as he desperately wrestled with the steering wheel.

The car carved an extremely thrilling arc across the factory grounds.

When cornering, the car tilted at such a sharp angle that one of the rear wheels lifted directly off the ground.
