139: Trying to save people

In mid-air, the dark red Asura and the King surrounded by six-colored elements clashed wildly, each impact erupting with light and heat powerful enough to tear the sky apart.

But all of this had nothing to do with Lin Yu.

He withdrew his gaze, completely blocking out all external distractions.

In his world, there was only one goal left.

Ghost Card.

Amplification.

Cycle.

He stretched out his hands, palms facing each other, forming a circle.

A pitch-black Ghost Card quietly appeared, suspended between his palms.

Then came the Multiplication Card.

The phantom images of 1,048,576 Multiplication Cards stacked in layers before him, forming an infinite cyclical system incomprehensible to a mortal.

He didn't look at Old Ghost again, nor did he offer any explanation.

Now, every second was incredibly precious.

Skill Card.

Vitality Nourishment (Origin).

This newly promoted skill would be his only reliance in creating a miracle.

The passive skill "Flesh Control" was a divine skill for the living, but its effect on the dead was unknown.

What Lin Yu had to do was turn this "unknown" into a "possibility."

To use infinite energy to pry open the door named "death"!

Buzz.

As his mind stirred, an almost imperceptible emerald green light dot emerged from his glabella, slowly injecting itself into the Amplification cycle before him.

The cycle began!

...Behind the Obsidian Shield.

Wang Han and his daughter, Wang Qingxuan, were utterly speechless.

Wang Han desperately covered his daughter's mouth, and his own, for fear of making the slightest sound that might disturb his nephew, who was performing some mysterious ritual outside.

His brain had stopped thinking.

Lin Yu, this child, from prodigy, to genius, to madman, to waste.

Over so many years, this was the first time he truly felt unfamiliar with his true nature.

Was the deferred student who needed his parents to worry about living expenses at home...

...the "boss" who could make a Mythical-grade demon god bow with a single word?

Was he the mastermind who could instantly clad the rampaging Asura in divine armor and turn the tide of battle with a wave of his hand?

Wang Han looked at the shimmering, ever-changing phantom images of cards before Lin Yu, feeling as though his worldview was being hammered into dust, blow by blow.

What on earth was wrong with this world?

Or rather, had he never truly known his nephew?

...In the ruins.

Old Ghost, holding Seventh Master's gradually cooling body, stopped his mournful cries.

He looked at the young man, his back to him, performing some kind of ritual.

Although he didn't understand what his boss was doing...

...the almost blind trust and hope born from surviving the catastrophe made him react instinctively.

He carefully laid Seventh Master's body on the ground.

Then, he stood up, hunched over, and walked behind Lin Yu.

He pulled out a blood-stained dagger from his in my arms, and with a protective stance, he vigilantly scanned his surroundings.

He didn't know what he could do.

But he knew that until his boss finished his task, no one would get a step closer to him from behind!

...On the other side of the battlefield.

Chen Ao's subordinates had gone from initial shock to bone-chilling dread.

They watched the battle in the sky, a fight that completely overturned their understanding, and each of them was as silent as a cicada in winter.

Defeated.

Master Ao was actually subtly falling into a disadvantage!

That monster, after regaining its sanity, had not weakened; instead, it had become even more terrifying!

Every one of his attacks carried a precise and deadly calculation, his eight arms cooperating seamlessly, offense and defense as one.

The terrifying defensive power brought by the Divine Bone Armor rendered most of Chen Ao's attacks useless.

Meanwhile, the elemental weapons, empowered by Eight Desolations Return to Origin, could easily tear through Chen Ao's protective energy, leaving wounds on his body.

"How could this be... Master Ao, he..." A man in black trembled.

"Shut up!"

The Little Leader, who had lost an arm, snapped.

His condition was the calmest among everyone, but his slightly trembling body still betrayed his inner turmoil.

He stared intently at the young man in the distance who was "performing a ritual."

All the variables stemmed from him!

As long as he was killed, that Asura monster would naturally collapse without a fight!

Master Ao could also instantly regain the initiative!

His gaze shifted to a trembling figure beside him.

Li San.

The man who had accidentally beaten Seventh Master to death.

"Li San." The Little Leader's voice was devoid of any warmth.

Li San's body trembled, and he suddenly looked up.

"Boss..."

"Your chance has come," the Little Leader stated calmly.

"What?" Li San didn't react.

"Go, kill him." The Little Leader raised his remaining left hand, pointing towards Lin Yu in the distance.

Li San looked in the direction he pointed, and was so scared he nearly lost his soul on the spot.

"Boss! You want me to kill that boss? I..."

"You have no choice," the Little Leader interrupted him. "You killed that old man, pushing things to an irreversible point. Now, Master Ao is suppressed, and all of us might die here."

"This is your only chance to atone for your mistakes."

"And your only chance to live."

Every word from the Little Leader was like a needle, piercing Li San's heart.

Li San's face instantly turned pale. He remembered the fatal mistake he had just made, and he remembered Master Ao's cruel methods.

He knew that even if he miraculously survived today, he would absolutely not escape punishment afterward.

Unless... he could achieve a monumental Merit!

"Why me?" Li San asked tremblingly, clinging to a last shred of hope. "My strength..."

"Because of your profession," the Little Leader said indifferently. "Shadow Assassin. Your Shadow Stealth is one of Blue Star's top-tier stealth skills, silent and without the slightest energy fluctuation."

"That kid is completely focused right now; it's impossible for him to discover you."

"This is the most suitable mission for you."

"And it's a mission you must complete."

The Little Leader's gaze was like two knives, scraping against Li San's face.

Li San swallowed, his throat dry and aching.

He knew he had no retreat.

Either be killed on the spot by the enraged boss now...

...or gamble on that slim chance of survival.

"I..." Li San's breathing quickened, a hint of mad determination flashing in his eyes.

"I understand."

He gritted his teeth, squeezing out these few words.

The Little Leader nodded in satisfaction, pulled out a pitch-black, palm-sized short dagger from his in my arms, and tossed it to him.

"This is the Soul Extinguishing Dagger. It comes with an instant death judgment. Even if it can't kill him, it can severely damage his soul."

"Go."

"Let him see that Master Ao doesn't have any useless subordinates."

Li San caught the short dagger, its cold touch invigorating him.

He no longer hesitated, nodded heavily at the Little Leader, and then his entire body began to become ethereal.

His figure didn't vanish, but rather, like a drop of ink, he silently melted into the mottled shadows on the ground.

No energy fluctuations.

No spatial ripples.

Not even the slightest distortion of light.

He simply disappeared completely from this world.
