376: Chapter 376 The Result of the Test

Wen Yan's attacks grew faster and faster, yet he felt as if he were sinking into a quagmire. Lin Yu's movements seemed simple, but they left all of Wen Yan's strength with nowhere to land.

"His application is spot on!"

Wen Yan praised him inwardly. Even a professionally trained soldier might not be able to use these minor skills with such ease and fluidity.

However, since Lin Yu was already using skills, Wen Yan wouldn't hold back any longer!

He stomped his foot hard, his body soaring several meters high and hovering briefly in the air.

"Come forth, Frost Fang!"

"Blood Claw!"

Two long wolf howls echoed from deep within the distant jungle.

At the edge of the jungle, two vigorous figures burst through the grass. They were two giant wolves, their sizes comparable to adult bisons. Their bodies were covered in fur interwoven with frost and blood-red colors, their limbs were strong and powerful, and their mouths were filled with sharp Fangs.

Frost Fang and Blood Claw were war beasts specially assigned to Wen Yan by the Fangs.

They were incredibly fast, reaching Lin Yu in an instant, flanking him from both sides to launch a pincer attack.

"Is this your class ability?" Lin Yu asked casually after dodging a pounce from Frost Fang.

Wen Yan panted heavily and shook his head.

"No."

"My class is Tactical Master, which leans more toward support."

He explained while his hands didn't stop moving. Two beams of emerald-green light shot from Wen Yan's fingertips, landing precisely on Frost Fang and Blood Claw.

Translucent energy shields instantly manifested around the two giant wolves.

"These were assigned to me by the team to assist me in solo combat."

Before he could finish, Blood Claw's sharp talons slashed toward Lin Yu. Lin Yu sidestepped to avoid it; Blood Claw's attack missed him but shattered its own energy shield.

The moment the shield shattered, it turned into a visible surge of emerald-green energy that instantly merged into Blood Claw's body.

Blood Claw's aura surged violently, its speed and power increasing by a significant margin.

"Interesting," Lin Yu whispered to himself.

He had already figured out seventy to eighty percent of Wen Yan's abilities. Communication, command, and guidance were the core, and this shield not only protected the war beasts but also strengthened them upon shattering.

This was indeed a very powerful team-based support class.

Moreover, Wen Yan's movements weren't fast and he wasn't aiming to kill; it felt more like an assessment or a sparring session.

Lin Yu was actually quite grateful to him. In these few brief exchanges, Lin Yu's proficiency in using his various skills had climbed several levels higher, which was much faster than fumbling through it on his own.

Just as Lin Yu was gradually becoming immersed in the fight, Wen Yan suddenly raised his hand, signaling a stop.

Frost Fang and Blood Claw immediately ceased their attacks and retreated to Wen Yan's side, letting out low whimpers.

"I'm done fighting," Wen Yan said, steadying his breath.

He looked at Lin Yu with a complex expression.

"Just who are you?"

Lin Yu didn't answer directly; he just looked at Wen Yan calmly, waiting for his next words.

"Your abilities... your rank."

Wen Yan's voice was somewhat raspy.

"The files say Epic Rank, but right now, I think the files are full of shit!"

The two giant wolves pawed the ground uneasily, letting out threatening low growls from their throats, yet their eyes never dared to truly lock onto Lin Yu, as if some horror existed there that made their very souls tremble.

Lin Yu ignored the two little wolves.

He simply looked at Wen Yan, his face showing not the slightest hint of surprise.

The files?

If those things could define him, his last five years would have been lived in vain.

"So?" Lin Yu asked in return, his voice calm without a single ripple. "You've fought your fight and done your testing. Why stop now?"

This counter-question left Wen Yan choked for words.

Yes, why?

He couldn't explain it clearly himself.

He had started the fight partly because that overly massive surge of life energy in his body needed a vent, and partly as the final struggle of an elite warrior.

He wanted to use his own fists to confirm whether everything happening before his eyes was real or some high-level mental illusion.

The result?

It was as real as it could possibly be.

As for why he stopped...

Wen Yan gave a bitter smile and withdrew from his combat stance.

The two giant wolves also lowered their guard, submissively lowering their bodies.

"Because continuing to fight is meaningless," Wen Yan's voice was a bit dry. "I just wanted to confirm if I was dreaming."

"Confirmed it now?"

"Confirmed." Wen Yan nodded heavily. He looked at Lin Yu with a complex mix of awe, confusion, and frustration. "I'm not dreaming. This world might be... much crazier than I imagined."

He fell silent for a moment, seemingly organizing his thoughts.

"You asked me earlier what Officer Zhong Huai and I were doing here."

Wen Yan looked up, his gaze passing over Lin Yu toward the sky that was vibrant and saturated with life energy.

"To tell you the truth, I do have a mission. A very important S-rank mission personally issued by Commander-in-Chief Qin Zhan."

An S-rank mission.

The highest mission level of the Fangs.

These words were enough to shock anyone who knew their weight.

But Lin Yu's reaction remained as flat as water.

Wen Yan curled his lips in self-deprecation.

Right, to a monster like the one before him, what S-rank mission? It was probably no different from children playing house.

"My mission is to find the triggerer of the 'Lightning divine revelation' that caused the global thunderstorms not long ago."

He finally said it.

This was considered a violation of protocol.

But Wen Yan felt that in front of Lin Yu, those confidentiality regulations had become nothing more than scrap paper.

He even had an absurd premonition that even if he didn't say it, the other party probably already knew.

Lin Yu's heart stirred upon hearing this. The Lightning divine revelation... was he actually not the only one who knew about this thing?

"However..." Wen Yan's tone shifted as he withdrew his gaze and refocused on Lin Yu. This time, his attitude was incredibly solemn.

"Now, I feel that mission has become somewhat insignificant."

The weight of this sentence was even heavier than his earlier admission that the files were trash.

An elite member of the Fangs had personally admitted that an S-rank mission issued by the Commander-in-Chief had become "insignificant."

The reason was solely because of the young man before him.

Wen Yan took a deep breath, his chest rising and falling slightly.

"Student Lin Yu, I don't know how you did it, and I don't want to pry into your secrets. Those things are already beyond my scope of understanding."

Wen Yan lowered his posture significantly, even adding a hint of a plea.

"The internal regulations of the Fangs don't allow me to reveal more to you here. But if you trust me, I hope you can come with me."

"Where to?" Lin Yu finally spoke.

"Fangs Special Operations Team Headquarters," Wen Yan said clearly, emphasizing every word.

"I will immediately report everything that happened here to Commander-in-Chief Qin Zhan. I believe he will be very, very willing to meet you."

"He will give you a satisfactory explanation, and he will also give you... a proposal you won't be able to refuse."
