1: Chapter 1 Extraordinary Adaptability

Late at night.

Ska City.

Several figures in black suddenly emerged from the shadows of the street, reaching the backyard wall of a manor in moments.

"Once we finish this job, it should be enough for us to live comfortably for a long time."

At this moment, one of the men in black spoke, the greed in his eyes fully exposed.

"Boss, is this really okay? There's an Elementary Knight inside. If we're discovered..."

A lackey hesitated, speaking with some concern.

As a theft ring, they usually made a living by stealing, but this was the first time they were being so high-profile.

Because a Knight's strength was immense and it was nearly impossible for ordinary people to get close to them, this was clearly beyond their group's capabilities.

"What are you afraid of? I've invited Katus this time."

The leader in black curled his lips in disdain, but a moment later, a pained expression appeared on his face.

"Boss, Katus..."

Upon hearing this name, the lackey's face showed shock.

But before he could finish, the leader in black made a gesture for silence.

Katus was a celebrity in their circles, with strength reaching the level of an Elementary Knight.

He knew what his lackey was worried about; Katus was notoriously brutal, prone to violence over the slightest disagreement, and in a frenzy, he wouldn't even spare those around him.

But he had planned this job for a long time. Perhaps he could even use this to become a true Knight himself!

Just then, a burly figure silently appeared behind the men in black.

"How is it going?"

The gruff voice gave the men in black a fright.

Once they reacted, they all put on fawning smiles. The leader in black hurried forward: "Lord Katus, we were just waiting for you."

"Then let's go."

Katus nodded, then exerted force with his legs, easily leaping over the three-meter-high wall.

Most of the men in black watched this scene with envy, but a trace of malice flashed in the leader's eyes.

Once this job was done, the poison he had specially prepared...

The group waited for a moment, but there was no response from the other side of the wall. For a time, they couldn't help but look at each other in confusion.

"Lord Katus, are you still there?"

One of the men in black asked cautiously in a low voice.

"Are you talking about him?"

Suddenly, a clumsy-sounding voice came from beside them.

Hearing this unfamiliar voice, the men in black were startled. Then, a pitch-black spherical object was thrown at their feet.

With the help of the moonlight, they could barely make out that it was a human head!

"Katus!"

One of the men in black couldn't help but cry out in alarm.

But what awaited him was not a teammate's response, but a flash of silver light across his eyes.

In just an instant, several heads rolled, and the bodies slowly collapsed to the ground.

"What a hassle, I have to mop the floor again."

Nie Ning stepped out from the shadows, his young face full of disgust.

This world really is restless; one encounters thieves, muggers, and bandits at every turn. As a transmigrator, it's really a bit hard to get used to.

Just then, Nie Ning's ears twitched, followed by the sound of light footsteps in the courtyard.

Hearing the sound, Nie Ning quickly leapt over the wall and went behind a rockery.

"Who's there!"

A girl's sharp shout rang out.

As if he hadn't heard, Nie Ning stuffed Katus's corpse into the bushes and then walked out from behind the rockery as if nothing had happened.

When he looked up, he saw a blonde-haired, blue-eyed young girl standing on the corridor not far away.

The girl's brows were slightly furrowed, but her tense expression softened when she saw Nie Ning.

Seeing the girl about to walk over, Nie Ning acted like a deaf-mute, gesticulating wildly: "A-ba, a-ba..."

This was Nie Ning's current persona.

As a transmigrator, he couldn't understand what anyone was saying when he first arrived, so he had no choice but to pretend to be a deaf-mute.

As time went on, even though he could now read and understand speech, he didn't know how to start talking.

After all, staying here was decent enough; if he suddenly started talking, people would only think he had ulterior motives.

"You gave me a fright, I thought someone..."

The girl suddenly realized Nie Ning couldn't speak, so she started gesturing with her hands.

Regarding this young lady who didn't know sign language and was just gesturing randomly, Nie Ning suppressed the urge to roll his eyes and could only respond with a dull, silly smile.

Then he signaled that it was dirty here and not convenient for her to come over.

The girl didn't insist. Finally, she made a sleeping gesture and then left the garden directly.

Nie Ning breathed a sigh of relief as the girl left, then kicked Katus's corpse in annoyance.

The girl's name was Lilith, the young lady of this manor.

Back then, he had been beaten for stealing food because he was starving. Lilith saw that he couldn't speak and took pity on him, so she took him in.

Nie Ning was always grateful for this and would occasionally help deal with things within his power, like these thieves who planned to break in tonight.

...

After disposing of the bodies, Nie Ning returned to his room.

Calling it a room was generous; it was actually a woodshed filled with clutter, containing only a straw bed Nie Ning had built himself out of wood.

However, it was quite good for Nie Ning; at least he didn't have to squeeze in with others.

As Nie Ning closed his eyes, a white-framed panel appeared in his mind.

[Class: Elementary Knight (Mid-stage)]

[Talent: Supernatural Adaptability]

[Bloodline: ??? (Unactivated)]

[Derived Traits: Strange Beast Body, Beginner Self-Healing, Strength of an Ox, Elementary Poison Resistance, Elementary Cold Resistance, Malice Perception, Strong Physique, Elementary Wood Affinity]

[Cultivation Methods: Basic Knight Method, Swift Fox Method]

[Skills: Hedal Combat Technique (Proficient), Swift Swordsmanship (Proficient), Concentrated Heavy Strike (Novice), Single Stroke Slash (Novice)]

(Skill levels are: Novice, Proficient, Mastery, Perfection)

The panel had appeared after Nie Ning transmigrated. It had no special functions and could only be used to view personal attributes.

The talent, however, was different. Supernatural Adaptability was practically a survival god-tier skill for Nie Ning.

Because this talent allowed him to quickly adapt to environments and obtain traits from various edible things.

For example, obtaining Strength of an Ox from cattle, and Beginner Self-Healing and Wood Affinity from plants, and so on.

Even without eating anything, his body would develop corresponding abilities based on his environment.

For instance, Elementary Cold Resistance was a trait evolved when he was suffering from cold and hunger back then.

Aside from the classification, derived traits were almost no different from talents.

Because of these traits, Nie Ning's overall strength had significantly improved, allowing him to adapt to this supernatural world faster.
