230: Chapter 230 Mount Narnia
The group walked through a jungle filled with weeds and thorns.
Nie Ning and Heloise were shielded by magic barriers to prevent the toxic gases here from entering their bodies.
A strange beast lay fallen before them, its body covered in burn marks from lightning. Nie Ning immediately went forward to collect various materials from the beast.
Heloise looked up at the sky: "Why don't we just fly over? Wouldn't flying be faster and safer?"
Although the sky was obscured by the Toxic Miasma, they would be able to reach the interior of the Holy Mountain directly if they just flew over this area.
"You are a Mage, and you also need to learn how to fight. I can't stay by your side forever, so consider this trip a trial for you."
Nie Ning talked nonsense while collecting materials.
He couldn't exactly tell Heloise that he was the one who needed the materials from the strange beasts.
After all, it was a rare visit, and no one knew when they would return. Collecting more strange beast genes would help refine his Strange Beast Body.
If he could acquire some skills, it would also benefit their upcoming actions.
Heloise nodded thoughtfully, but a strange glint appeared in her eyes.
As the two were collecting materials, a sudden sound came from the forest.
Nie Ning and Heloise exchanged a look and quietly hid atop a large tree.
Just then, a man clad in armor ran out of the forest in a panic.
The man glanced back from time to time as if something terrifying were chasing him.
Moments after the man ran past, the continuous sounds of trees breaking and collapsing could be heard. Then, a creature about four meters tall, covered in dark yellow scales and resembling a pangolin, rushed out.
Seeing the dead beast ahead, the man's eyes flashed with bewilderment, but now was clearly not the time for contemplation.
Seeing the Golden Scaled Beast catching up, the man ducked behind a large tree, hoping to use it to evade the attack.
However, the Golden Scaled Beast only glanced at the carcass on the ground, then lifted its head to sniff the air before heading straight for the tree where the man was hiding.
With the man's strength as a Great Knight, if he were discovered by this Golden Scaled Beast, which was nearing the third rank, his death would be almost certain.
Seeing this, Heloise wanted to go down and save him, but Nie Ning reached out and stopped her.
A confused Heloise looked at Nie Ning, only to see him shake his head, signaling her not to be impulsive.
They were strangers in a strange land, and the Narnia Holy Mountain was full of poisonous insects and fierce beasts. Who knew if this person had intentionally lured the Golden Scaled Beast here?
Of course, Nie Ning knew.
The man's malice was almost hitting him in the face; it was a hundred percent certain that he had come to cause trouble on purpose.
As the Golden Scaled Beast approached the man, a look of panic appeared in his eyes, and then he suddenly looked toward where Nie Ning and Heloise were.
"Help me, my lords!"
After the man shouted, the Golden Scaled Beast instinctively looked up at Nie Ning and Heloise's position.
The Golden Scaled Beast then suddenly changed direction and charged toward the two of them.
With a cold expression, Nie Ning waved his hand and released a Lightning Edge Blade, splitting the man directly in half.
Before he died, the man's eyes were filled with confusion, seemingly unable to understand why Nie Ning had suddenly attacked.
Seeing this, the Golden Scaled Beast actually showed an expression of bewilderment and rage. It then curled its body into a rolling ball and crashed toward Nie Ning and Heloise.
Nie Ning reached out and summoned dozens of Ice Chains to bind the Golden Scaled Beast.
The Chi Yu on Heloise's shoulder let out a sharp bird cry.
Chi Yu flew into the air, its body growing larger as it caught the wind. It spat a Lava Ray at the Golden Scaled Beast, blasting it away.
Faced with an attack from a third-rank strange beast, the Golden Scaled Beast's scales were burned through.
However, as it was an entity nearing the third rank, this single strike wasn't enough to kill it.
Having suffered such a heavy blow, the Golden Scaled Beast's eyes filled with panic, and it turned to flee deep into the forest.
Nie Ning naturally wouldn't let the food right in front of him slip away.
A large number of Wind-Thunder Blades appeared out of thin air, cutting down every tree in their path. In an instant, they tore the peak second-rank strange beast to shreds.
"Teacher, it's one thing not to save him, but why did you kill him?"
Heloise asked in confusion, looking at the man who had been split in two.
"This damn guy was clearly in league with that beast. He probably came over after hearing the sounds of your fight earlier. When you encounter people in a place like this, just kill them directly, regardless of whether they're good or bad."
Nie Ning patted Heloise on the shoulder as he spoke.
For someone as inexperienced as Heloise, no matter how brilliant she was, she couldn't account for there being so many bad people.
In this world, survival is the most important thing; only then can you consider whether or not to save others.
If Heloise had come alone today, even if she managed to save him, her outcome likely wouldn't have been good.
Seeing that Heloise didn't believe him, Nie Ning pointed at the man's corpse: "If you don't believe me, go search him. He's bound to be carrying many poisonous items."
The strange beasts of Narnia all have high poison resistance, so a normal person certainly wouldn't bring poison into this area.
Those who carry poison—especially finished poison products—are mostly prepared for use against other people.
"Is it really that simple?"
Heloise muttered softly, then jumped down from the tree and began searching the man.
The search yielded surprising results. Heloise found over ten different types of poison on the man, in various sizes.
Most of these were finished poisons, and many were toxins native to Narnia.
At this point, Nie Ning walked over to Heloise's side.
"Look, his soles are quite clean, and he doesn't even have a decent weapon on him—only two poisoned daggers. Those things couldn't possibly deal with the strange beasts here."
"Furthermore, looking at his palms, he's not a Martial Artist who practices fist techniques. Entering this place alone with that level of strength is no different from seeking death."
Even they had picked up quite a bit of dirt along the way.
Yet this man's shoes were new, with few signs of friction on the soles. Either he had just changed his shoes, or he had ridden the Golden Scaled Beast in.
But this guy didn't even have a Spatial Tool, so where would he get new shoes to change into?
For Nie Ning, it didn't matter even if he had guessed wrong. He had Malice Perception anyway, so he definitely hadn't killed the wrong person.
But for Heloise, killing the wrong person was still better than losing her life because of it.
Besides, there aren't that many good people in this world. The more dangerous the place, the more careful you must be of the people you encounter.
Heloise nodded thoughtfully.
Although Nie Ning had indeed killed many people for no apparent reason along the way, overall, it seemed he had never killed the wrong person.
This was also what puzzled her the most.
Nie Ning wasn't very old. Even if his cultivation talent was extraordinary, where did he get the experience to distinguish between good and bad people?
