131: Chapter 131 The Troublemaker

After returning to the manor, Nie Ning first went to visit Lilith. Only after confirming she was alright did he return to work in the garden.

Since the last incident, Lilith seemed to have matured overnight.

She began to care about family affairs; she was no longer as lively as before, her words were no longer childish, and most of the time, she carried herself with maturity and dignity.

Nie Ning didn't know what to say about this.

Everyone has to learn to grow up. Following Bunir was no longer a matter of whether life would be easy, but a question of whether she would survive.

For someone like Bunir, who completely disregarded consequences, Nie Ning naturally didn't want Lilith to suffer with him; in fact, no one wanted to see Lilith make that choice.

It was a pity that someone had to barge in midway and interfere; otherwise, Nie Ning would have certainly acted to eliminate the future trouble and completely sever Lilith's lingering thoughts.

He had to admit, sometimes Nie Ning felt he was quite like a villain in a romance novel, and one destined to be the final Boss.

Nie Ning even felt that Bunir wouldn't be content to just disappear and would reappear here one day.

Thinking of this, Nie Ning couldn't help but stop his work.

"This script... why does it feel like something's wrong?"

The more Nie Ning thought about it, the more he felt there was an issue.

From the perspective of Lilith and Bunir, wasn't he the big villain who tore the two apart?

Moreover, he was imposing his will on others, even though anyone who knew Lilith would likely have made the same decision as him.

Eventually, Bunir would return with overwhelming power, and both of them would hate him for what he did, then unite as one to deal with him.

"If I'd known, I should have just taken the risk; it's not like I definitely couldn't beat him."

Nie Ning felt deep regret now, sighing inwardly that he shouldn't have been soft-hearted back then.

If he had killed Bunir directly, he wouldn't be here overthinking things now.

Although he wasn't afraid of Bunir, the thought that he might become the 'bad guy' left a somewhat bitter taste in his mouth.

"Are the City Lord's lips soft?"

Just then, Norma's sour voice rang out from behind Nie Ning.

Nie Ning quirked an eyebrow. Do these people have nothing better to do? What's with the constant spying on others?

Nie Ning ignored Norma, pretending he hadn't heard a thing.

Seeing this, Norma gave Nie Ning a fierce glare, then kicked over the bucket next to him and stormed off.

Watching Norma's departing back, Nie Ning couldn't help but roll his eyes.

This girl was cut from the same cloth as Ivy; he didn't know what was wrong with her, always doing incomprehensible things.

The bucket didn't do anything to you, why kick it for no reason?!

...

Two days later.

Federation Branch, office.

Nie Ning looked at Amoto in front of him. After more than half a month, this guy had finally returned.

"You brought the Meditation Technique, right?"

"I brought it, but..."

Amoto looked awkward, hesitating as if he didn't know how to speak.

Nie Ning's brow quirked slightly, his expression displeased. "What is it? Don't tell me you were robbed on the way."

He was currently at the age where he needed to work hard to improve his strength. Every day delayed was another day he had to wait; he didn't have time to play games with these people.

Seeing Nie Ning's expression sour, Amoto hurriedly pulled a black circular crystal from the pouch at his waist and handed it to Nie Ning.

"This is the Inheritance Stone that records the Meditation Technique. You just need to channel Spiritual Power into it. However, it can only be used once and will self-destruct afterward."

Hearing this, Nie Ning took the Inheritance Stone.

As Spiritual Power was injected, information regarding the Meditation Technique flooded into Nie Ning's mind.

Once Nie Ning had recorded the Meditation Technique, the Inheritance Stone in his hand crumbled into dust.

"High-tech stuff."

Nie Ning felt a sense of wonder.

If this kind of thing had existed in his past life, why would he have ever gone to school?

Uh...

That didn't seem right either.

If he didn't go to school, he'd have to work—a vicious cycle, even more bitter and tiring.

"Right, since you brought the Meditation Technique, what were you hesitating about earlier?"

Nie Ning looked at Amoto and asked with some confusion.

"Well, Vice President Skadi wants to send his grandson here to study under you."

Amoto glanced at Nie Ning cautiously as he spoke.

Rogue Wizards usually didn't like those noble young masters, let alone this particularly special one.

Nie Ning smiled upon hearing this. "Isn't that a good thing? We're short-handed here anyway; the more, the merrier."

After he brainwashed the kid a bit, if he ever left one day, maybe he could even get Skadi's grandson to help find someone to take over his position.

"Lord Skadi's grandson is a bit special; his personality isn't very good."

Amoto hesitated for a moment before adding, "If you're unwilling, I can help you decline."

Calling it 'studying' was actually just exile, to prevent Chard from causing trouble everywhere.

If he caused trouble in a small city, those big figures could still handle it, but it wouldn't be pleasant for the people living there.

Upon hearing this, Nie Ning understood immediately.

So they were sending a troublemaker over, and one with a formidable background at that.

If such a person were brought to a small city like theirs, it would be like bringing home an ancestor to serve.

"Tell me about his situation first."

Nie Ning didn't agree or refuse immediately; instead, he had Amoto describe Chard's situation.

Amoto didn't hide anything and began to explain.

Skadi's grandson was named Chard, a notorious wild child who never did anything productive, constantly fighting and causing trouble.

Although he hadn't committed any great evils, his personality was truly unbearable for many.

The key was that Skadi's status and strength were right there; even if Skadi said he wouldn't care about this grandson, no one dared to actually discipline Chard.

After all, no one was a fool; who knew if there would be a settling of scores later?

...

After listening to Amoto's explanation, Nie Ning fell into deep thought.

Chard's background was good; making a connection with him might be a big help.

But the personality issue was serious.

Nie Ning reflected on his own schedule; he basically had no time during the day, usually either staying at the manor or doing research in the Wizard Tower.

In other words, he had no time to manage such a brat.

But once Chard did something out of line, no one in Ska City besides himself would be able to control him.

That would be equivalent to inviting a demon king into Ska City.

Nie Ning would be fine, but it would be extremely unfair to the people in the city.

He wasn't exactly a 'good' person, but he couldn't tolerate someone committing crimes under his nose; he was afraid he wouldn't be able to stop himself from being too heavy-handed, which would cause unnecessary trouble.

Finally, after careful consideration, Nie Ning rejected the proposal.

Overall, the downsides outweighed the benefits.

He wasn't destined to be a sage, nor did he have the habit of being a lackey; let someone else deal with the headache of such a person.

Amoto wasn't surprised by Nie Ning's answer.

Anyone would get a headache seeing such a troublemaker.

Besides, he was just passing on a message; whether it was accepted or not wasn't his business.
