222: Yang Mi is back!

Chen Le didn't expect Naza's message to arrive at such a coincidental time.

It arrived just as Yang Mi had returned the phone to him.

One second later, and Yang Mi would have discovered it.

Most importantly, the content of the message was "Brother Le, I miss you a little."

If Yang Mi saw those words, no matter how oblivious she was, she would know what was going on.

This feeling of dancing on a knife's edge was truly terrifying.

Thinking of this, he felt he shouldn't tease Yang Mi like this in the future, lest things really blow up in his face and he's finished.

Chen Le took a deep breath to soothe the shock in his heart.

Then he thought of something and asked, "Mi Mi, have you told Uncle and Auntie that you're back?"

Hearing this, Yang Mi shook her head and said, "Not yet."

"I'll tell them now," Yang Mi said, taking out her phone and calling her mother.

The call was connected quickly.

Mother Yang's voice rang out.

"Mi Mi, you girl, why did it take you so long to call home?"

Hearing her mother's words, Yang Mi quickly explained, "Mom, I was too busy and didn't have time to call you."

"Are you not busy now then?" Mother Yang accepted Yang Mi's explanation; at least she was calling them now.

"Yeah, I'm done. The new drama has finished filming, and I'm back in Yanjing now," Yang Mi said with a nod.

"Back in Yanjing? Did Little Le pick you up?" Mother Yang asked, somewhat surprised.

"Yes, I called him yesterday and asked him to come pick me up," Yang Mi replied.

"You girl, you called Little Le yesterday, so why didn't you call your parents?" Mother Yang felt a bit sour when she heard that Yang Mi had called Chen Le yesterday but not them.

It really lived up to the saying: the little quilted jacket is leaking air.

"Uh, I... I was busy then and didn't have time to call you guys," Yang Mi explained again.

"Sigh, you don't need to say more. Our little quilted jacket is already leaking air, and she hasn't even married out yet," Mother Yang continued.

Yang Mi didn't know whether to laugh or cry at her mother's words.

However, it did seem like she was in the wrong; she only remembered to call Chen Le and forgot about her own parents.

"Alright, alright, Mi Mi, I'm joking. Since you're back, come home with Little Le for dinner tonight. I'll cook something delicious for you both," Mother Yang said immediately upon noticing Yang Mi's silence.

"Okay, bye Mom!" Yang Mi nodded and then hung up the phone.

Beside her, because Yang Mi had the speakerphone on, Chen Le had also heard their conversation.

"Going over for dinner tonight? It's already past three o'clock, we'll have to set off soon or we won't make it," Chen Le said with a smile.

"Yeah, I'll go change my clothes first." After saying that, Yang Mi got up and went back to her room to change.

Going home naturally required more casual clothes; what she was wearing now was too conspicuous.

Soon, she finished changing.

Seeing her, Chen Le teased, "Why are you dressed like a village girl?"

"What village girl? My outfit is perfectly normal, okay? It has nothing to do with being a village girl. How could a village girl's clothes look like this?" Yang Mi's face darkened at Chen Le's comment.

"Haha, I didn't mean it literally. It's just that compared to your outfit just now, this one makes you look like a village girl," Chen Le quickly explained.

Compared to her fashionable look from before, these ordinary clothes suddenly looked very old-fashioned.

Although Yang Mi still looked good in them, it was because she was beautiful, not because the clothes were.

"You'd better stop explaining," Yang Mi said, somewhat speechless.

"Fine." Chen Le didn't say any more.

Afterward, the two of them dropped the subject.

Around five in the afternoon, they arrived at Yang Mi's home.

Chen Le got out of the car carrying the gifts he had just bought.

After all, it had been a long time since he last visited Yang Father and Mother, so bringing some gifts was a nice gesture.

Arriving at the door, Father Yang was waiting there.

Seeing Chen Le, a smile appeared on his face. "Little Le, you're finally here!"

"Uncle, I'm here. I brought something you like best," Chen Le said with a smile, then pulled a square box out from the gifts.

Father Yang's eyes lit up the moment he saw it. "Is this... maotai?"

"Yes, it's to show my respect to you," Chen Le nodded with a smile.

Seeing this, Father Yang couldn't hide his pride and joy.

"This liquor must have cost a lot of money," Father Yang said, his eyes shining even as he felt a bit of a sting for the expense.

"It's alright, not too much," Chen Le waved his hand.

With his current net worth, a single bottle of maotai wasn't considered expensive.

But for Father Yang, this one bottle of maotai was worth several months of his salary.

After all, although he was a police officer with a permanent position, it was just a stable job that didn't pay much.

Furthermore, his position was quite relaxed, with not much to do usually.

After all, at his age, he would reach retirement in a few years and start collecting his pension.

He was currently living a semi-retired life, with basically nothing to do every day.

His greatest hobby was having a few drinks, but since Mother Yang was strict about it, he had switched to drinking tea.

She didn't mind him drinking tea, but Father Yang felt that tea wasn't as satisfying as alcohol.

Now that Chen Le was here, he could have a few drinks again.

"Uncle, let's drink this tonight," Chen Le said, pointing to the maotai in his hand.

"Oh, no, this is too expensive. We can just drink brand of chinese liquor," Father Yang quickly waved his hand.

If he really drank this, Mother Yang would never stop nagging him.

After all, it was worth thousands of yuan; every sip would be dozens or even a hundred yuan.

This much money would have been enough for him to drink so much brand of chinese liquor.

"Alright then." Seeing this, Chen Le didn't insist. He didn't usually drink anyway, and since Father Yang wouldn't drink it, there was no harm in keeping it.

In any case, this liquor wouldn't depreciate; the longer it was kept, the more valuable it would become, just like gold, its value was always rising.

Especially old vintages; the older the year, the more expensive the liquor.

If kept for twenty or thirty years, its price would likely be worth several times more.

While the two were talking, Mother Yang's voice came from inside the house.

"Little Le, why are you two still outside? Come in and eat."

"Coming," Chen Le replied.

He checked his phone; it was getting late, already six o'clock.

Then they went into the house.

Mother Yang had already set out the food, and the bowls and chopsticks were already on the table.

Seeing the liquor box in Father Yang's hand, Mother Yang immediately put her hands on her hips and looked at him sternly. "Where did you get this liquor? It looks like brand of chinese liquor?"

"Oh, Little Le brought it," Father Yang quickly explained.

Seeing Father Yang's flustered look, Chen Le smiled and explained from the side, "Auntie, I brought this. I also brought a gift for you."

As Chen Le spoke, he handed the bag he was carrying to Mother Yang.
