51: Chapter 51: Family Dividends - I Have Over Ten Million?

After the small interlude, the atmosphere of the banquet became even more lively.

Many guests took the initiative to come and toast Su Han, their attitudes even more respectful than before.

"Third Grandpa," Su Wu walked over holding a wine glass and said in a low voice, "You were so cool just now! That girl is Ling Xue's classmate; her family has a bit of money, and she loves to show off, but she finally hit a snag today."

Su Han shook his head: "Young people don't know any better; there's no need to hold it against her."

An hour later, the newlyweds finished toasting, and amidst the guests and the sound of ninety-nine-meter-long firecrackers, Zhou Haitao finally, as promised, helped Su Lingxue into the wedding car.

The banquet lasted until three in the afternoon before it ended.

As the guests were leaving one after another, the members of the Falcon Squad gathered around Su Han.

"Su Han, I'm impressed by how you act as an elder!" Monkey gave a thumbs up, "That aura of yours is even stronger than our Captain's!"

Big Bear rubbed his stomach: "This meal was really worth it; it's a hundred times better than the military canteen!"

Zhou Mo checked the time: "Su Han, our vacation is only two days, so we have to report back to the troops. We have training early tomorrow morning."

Su Han nodded: "I'll see you off."

At the entrance to the village, the Falcon Squad boarded the military vehicle.

Zhou Mo poked his head out of the car window: "Su Han, don't forget about the special forces selection next week. Deputy Commander Zhao thinks highly of you."

"Rest assured, I will return to the unit on time." Su Han gave a standard military salute.

Watching the military vehicle drive away, Su Han turned back to the village and found Xiao Budian squatting by the roadside playing with pebbles.

"Great-grandfather!" The little girl saw him, immediately rushed over, and hugged his leg, "Where did you go? Xiao Budian has been looking for you for ages!"

Su Han bent down and picked her up: "Great-grandfather was seeing some uncles off back to the troops. Why are you here all by yourself?"

Xiao Budian wrapped her arms around his neck and said mysteriously: "Great-grandfather, I'll tell you a secret!"

"What secret?"

"Just now, a bad lady was speaking ill of Great-grandfather, so I put a lot of salt in her teacup!" Xiao Budian shook her pigtails triumphantly, "She took a sip, and her face wrinkled up like a steamed bun!"

Su Han didn't know whether to laugh or cry: "Xiao Budian, that's not right."

Xiao Budian pouted: "But she was speaking ill of Great-grandfather! Daddy said that whoever bullies Great-grandfather is bullying our whole family!"

Su Han felt a warmth in his heart and rubbed her little head: "Great-grandfather is very happy that you are defending me. But don't do this in the future; we Su Family members must have grace, you know?"

Xiao Budian nodded, half-understanding: "Oh... then next time I'll put thumbtacks in her shoes?"

"..."

As the sun set, the red silk decorations of Su Family Village fluttered gently in the evening breeze.

Su Han carried Xiao Budian and walked home, his heart filled with mixed emotions.

The one-day wedding allowed him to truly understand what clan heritage and blood connection meant.

...

When Su Han carried Xiao Budian back to Su Bowen's old house, lanterns had already been lit in the courtyard.

Under the dim yellow light, Su Bowen was sitting by the stone table making tea, while Su Nuan was sorting out the wedding candies left over from the ceremony.

"Great-grandfather, put me down!" Xiao Budian struggled and jumped down from Su Han's arms, then scurried over to Su Nuan, "Great-Aunt, I want to eat candy!"

Su Nuan smiled and pinched her little cheek: "You've already had three today; if you eat any more, you'll get cavities."

Xiao Budian immediately pouted and looked at Su Han with big, blinking eyes: "Great-grandfather..."

Su Han couldn't help but chuckle: "Just give her one more; it's a joyous day today."

Su Nuan was helpless and had to pick out the smallest fruit candy from the box and hand it to Xiao Budian: "You can only eat this one, okay."

Xiao Budian cheered, took the candy, and hopped away.

"Third Grandpa, come sit." Su Bowen greeted him and poured Su Han a cup of tea, "You worked hard today."

Su Han quickly took the tea with both hands, sat down on the stone stool, and took a small sip from the teacup.

The tea was high-quality Longjing, its fragrance hitting his nose, allowing his nerves, which had been tense all day, to relax slightly.

"Big Uncle, there weren't any mistakes today, right?" Su Han asked.

Although he had tried his best to act according to etiquette, he was still worried about any oversights.

Su Bowen stroked his beard and smiled: "Third Grandpa performed very well, much more steady than I imagined. Mayor Zhang even specifically praised you when he was leaving, saying the Su Family has worthy successors."

Su Nuan also leaned over, her eyes full of admiration: "Brother, the way you looked in the ancestral hall today was so cool! The way those guests looked at you was completely different!"

Su Han shook his head: "It was just following the rules."

As the night deepened, only the three of them were left in the courtyard.

Su Bowen pondered for a moment and then spoke: "Third Grandpa, the wedding is over, so we should talk about your future."

Su Han put down his teacup and said seriously: "Please go ahead, Big Uncle."

"You are doing very well in the military now and have even been awarded a First-Class Merit." Su Bowen said slowly, "Regarding the clan, do you plan to stay in the military long-term, or..."

Su Han replied without hesitation: "Big Uncle, I plan to develop in the military long-term. Please continue to manage the family business."

Su Bowen seemed to have anticipated this answer and nodded: "That's fine too. There are quite a few Su Family descendants who have joined the army, but you are the first one to receive a First-Class Merit at such a young age."

He paused and said earnestly: "Third Grandpa, work hard in the military and bring glory to our Su Family. You don't need to worry about clan affairs; we old folks are here."

Su Bowen suddenly remembered something, took out a bankbook from his pocket, and pushed it toward Su Han: "Third Grandpa, this is the dividend from the industries belonging to you and Xiao Nuan from past years until now. I didn't give it to you before because you were naughty and I was afraid you would squander it."

"Now that you have grown up and become sensible, I can give it to you. You might need it in the future while in the military."

"In here, the dividends belonging to you and Xiao Nuan amount to over ten million."

Su Han's eyes widened instantly: "That much?"

Su Bowen smiled: "This is still considered small. It's mainly because the clan's industries have been expanding and investing a lot in recent years, otherwise it could have been several times more."

"Once the clan's business industries stabilize, there will only be more in the future."

Su Han quickly said: "Big Uncle, please keep this money for me first. I have everything I need in the military and don't have any use for this money."

"Take it." Su Bowen was firm, "You are an officer now, and social interactions are inevitable. Our Su Family is not short of this money, but we cannot let you be shabby in the military."

Seeing that he couldn't refuse, Su Han had to accept it: "Thank you, Big Uncle."

The night breeze was cool, and the three of them chatted about some domestic matters.

Su Bowen suddenly said seriously: "Third Grandpa, Ling Xue is returning home tomorrow, and there are some rules you need to know."

Su Han sat up straight: "Please tell me, Big Uncle."

Su Bowen took a sip of tea and said: "When returning home, the newlyweds must bring six gifts: a slab of meat, two fish, four catties of sugar, six catties of flour, eight catties of fruit, and ten catties of rice, symbolizing smooth sailing. The Zhou Family should have already prepared these. As the chief witness, you mainly need to receive them."

Su Han nodded: "Is there anything else I need to pay attention to?"

"When the newlyweds enter the house, you must sit in the center of the main hall to receive their greetings."

Su Bowen explained in detail, "Then you must keep them for lunch, but they must leave before the sun sets; this is called 'no overnight stay,' which signifies the bride taking root in her husband's family."

Su Nuan asked curiously: "Why is there such a rule?"

Su Bowen smiled: "This was passed down by our ancestors, who said that if a bride returns home too frequently, it will affect her status in her husband's family. Actually, there aren't that many strict requirements nowadays, but our Su Family is a traditional family, so the necessary etiquette cannot be omitted."

Su Han carefully noted every detail: "I understand."
