72: Chapter 72: The First "Flying Dragon" Hatched?

"Godzilla? No, no, no. Boss, while your imagination is rich, it lacks a bit of... biological common sense."

Dr. Zola typed furiously on his keyboard while emitting a neurotic, strange laugh. "A creature like Godzilla, which defies physics, would have its own bones crushed just by its own weight. What we are creating is the perfect hunter, the overlord of the sky, a work of art in killing that conforms to aerodynamics!"

"Before that, please allow me to grandly introduce to you..."

Zola yanked down the red control lever and shouted, "【Codename: Chimera-Alpha】! Emerge from the chamber!"

"Hiss—" Accompanied by the sound of the hydraulic system releasing air, the heavy explosion-proof door slowly slid open to both sides.

In that instant, a thick, primal, and wild stench rushed out from the dark incubation chamber.

Chen Yuan instinctively narrowed his eyes.

There were no earth-shaking footsteps as expected. Instead, there was only a slight "rustling" sound, similar to a sharp blade scraping across a metal floor.

Immediately after, a huge black shadow, like a streak of black lightning, suddenly darted out from the darkness!

"Watch out!" Dr. Zola shrieked in fear, shrinking directly behind Chen Yuan and shivering while hugging his head. "It just woke up! It has serious morning crankiness!"

The black shadow rushed to the bulletproof glass and stopped abruptly.

By the pale light of the laboratory, Chen Yuan finally saw its full appearance.

At that moment, even though he was accustomed to great storms, his pupils couldn't help but constrict slightly.

This was not Godzilla.

This was not a creature that should exist on Earth at all.

It had a skeletal structure similar to an ancient pterosaur, with its wings folded on both sides of its body and sharp bone hooks at the wingtips. But its skin was not the rough leather of a dinosaur; instead, it was covered in layers of smooth, hard, chitinous scales like obsidian.

On its streamlined head, which resembled the nose of a fighter jet, there was not the usual pair of eyes found in most creatures. In their place were six compound eyes.

Those six compound eyes, glowing with a faint green light, were arranged in a circle and could capture all movement around it without any blind spots. Under the light, those compound eyes flickered with a cold, cruel, and emotionless radiance.

And the most chilling part was its tail.

That three-meter-long tail was extremely flexible, swaying uneasily in the air. At the tip of the tail, there were no feathers or fins, but a huge, jet-black, shiny stinger still dripping with transparent venom, just like an emperor scorpion's tail magnified countless times.

"Roar—!!!" The monster opened its long beak filled with sharp teeth and emitted a sharp hiss at the glass.

The sound did not resemble a beast's roar; it was more like the screech of metal grinding against metal, making the bulletproof glass vibrate and hum.

"This is... the work of art you were talking about?" Chen Yuan looked at the stitched-together monster in front of him, which combined the characteristics of a pterosaur, an insect, a scorpion, and other creatures, and the corner of his mouth twitched. "Zola, isn't your aesthetic a bit too advanced?"

"This is evolution! Boss! This is the end point of evolution!" Zola hid behind Chen Yuan, poking his head out with a fanatical look in his eyes. "It possesses the flight capabilities of a pterosaur, the compound eye vision of an insect, and the chitinous exoskeleton of an arthropod! Although it is still a juvenile now with a wingspan of only five meters, when it matures... it will be an aircraft carrier in the sky!"

It seemed to understand Zola's words, or perhaps it was dizzy from the white lab coat swaying about. The monster suddenly turned its head, its six compound eyes locked firmly onto Zola.

"Hiss!" It slammed into the glass, and that highly toxic tail stinger struck like a javelin, leaving a white mark on the explosion-proof glass.

"Mommy! It wants to eat me!" Zola was so scared he sat down on the floor. "Boss! Quick! Use your authority to control it! An absolute obedience command is written into this thing's genes; only you can control it!"

Chen Yuan looked at the irritable "cub." He did not retreat; instead, he took a step forward and placed his palm against the cold glass.

At that moment, a strange feeling welled up in his heart. It was the privilege granted to him by the 【Biological Ascension System】—Master of All Things.

He could clearly feel that the mind of the monster in front of him was filled with hunger, cruelty, panic, and a longing and awe for its "Creator" that stemmed from the depths of its genes.

"Quiet." Chen Yuan looked into its eyes and issued a command in his mind. This command was not transmitted through language, but rather, like radio waves, it blasted directly into the monster's central nervous system.

A miracle happened. The monster, which had been frantically slamming against the glass and trying to make Zola into an appetizer, froze instantly.

Its six compound eyes, which had been flickering with a fierce light, now slowly softened, and its previously tense muscle lines gradually relaxed.

It retracted its lethal tail stinger and cautiously approached the glass. That large head covered in scales gently rubbed against the position of Chen Yuan's palm through the glass.

"Whimper..." A low, whining sound, similar to a puppy acting spoiled, came from its throat. Its wings slightly retracted, and the whole creature lay prone on the ground, even wagging its tail in a fawning manner. Although, the tail with the poisonous stinger still looked quite deadly when it wagged.

"My God..." Zola, on the floor, was dumbfounded, forgetting to adjust his crooked glasses. "It... is it acting spoiled? This is a top-tier predator! Its genes are filled with the instinct to kill! How could it possibly act spoiled?!"

"In its eyes, I am not prey." Chen Yuan withdrew his hand, the corner of his mouth curling into a satisfied arc. "I am its father, I am its god."

He pressed the button on the control console. "Zzz—" The heavy explosion-proof glass slowly rose.

Without the barrier, the aura belonging to a top-tier predator became even more intense. Zola scrambled backward, terrified of being swallowed in one bite.

But Chen Yuan walked over without any fear. The monster immediately brought its large head over and affectionately nudged Chen Yuan's chest with its iron-hard forehead, almost knocking him over.

Chen Yuan reached out and stroked its cold, rough, yet powerful black skin. The texture was hard, and it even resonated like metal when tapped.

"Good stuff." Chen Yuan exclaimed in admiration. "With this defensive capability, I'm afraid even small-caliber anti-aircraft guns couldn't penetrate it, right?"

"Theoretically... yes." Zola replied weakly from a distance. "Its exoskeleton is three times harder than steel and possesses a certain radar-absorbent coating effect, making it difficult for radar to lock onto."

"Radar-absorbent coating? It can also go invisible?" Chen Yuan's eyes lit up instantly.

He walked around the behemoth, his gaze lingering for a long time on its broad back and powerful wings. This thing could fly. It could go invisible. It had high defense and high speed. If it were just kept as a pet, it would be a waste of a good thing.

"This look is a bit like a Western dragon, and a bit like... a Wyvern." Chen Yuan patted the monster's thigh as if he were patting a newly bought sports car. "I'll call you 'Wyvern' from now on. Although it's a bit cliché, it's easy to remember."

"Woo!" Wyvern seemed to understand and flapped its wings excitedly. A strong wind suddenly arose; documents in the laboratory were blown everywhere, and Dr. Zola was blown directly into the corner.

"Boss! The name isn't important!" Zola shouted while hugging a pillar. "What's important is that it is perfect! It is a miracle of biology! Should we start mass production immediately? As long as there is enough ore, I can build a Wyvern air force for you!"

"Mass production isn't urgent yet." Chen Yuan shook his head.

He stood under Wyvern's wings, looked up at the hard skeletal structure, and a more insane, more daring, and also more... "Chen Yuan-style" idea suddenly popped into his mind.

He turned around and looked at Zola, his eyes flashing with a light that made even a mad scientist feel afraid.

"Zola." Chen Yuan pointed to Wyvern's broad and empty belly and the underside of its wings.

"You just said that this thing has a very strong load-bearing capacity, right?"

"Ye... yes." Zola swallowed his saliva, having an ominous premonition. "An adult can pick up an elephant."

"Very good." Chen Yuan snapped his fingers, his smile as bright as a devil's: "Then do you think, if we hung two 'Hellfire' missiles under its belly..."

"And welded two Gatling gun pods on its wings..."

"Would it still be able to fly?"
