73: Chapter 73 Equipping the Flying Dragon with Missiles: This is Called a Biological Bomber
"No! Absolutely not!"
Dr. Zola was like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, spreading his arms and blocking the path in front of the massive black monster.
His lab coat was stained with unknown green slime, his hair was as messy as a bird's nest, but at this moment, his eyes were as firm as a martyr defending his faith.
"Boss, this is blasphemy! This is an insult to the theory of evolution!"
Zola pointed at the majestic wyvern behind him, spittle flying, "It is perfect! Its streamlined body is the pinnacle of aerodynamics, its skeleton was born for supersonic flight! And you want to hang... hang those ugly iron pipes on it?"
"This is like putting sunglasses on the Mona Lisa! It's like putting floral trunks on the David statue!"
"It's simply a waste of a masterpiece!"
Chen Yuan stood to the side, fiddling with a USB drive in his hand, wearing that smile that made people grit their teeth in annoyance.
He wasn't angry, nor did he order the Tyrant to drag this madman away.
He had plenty of ways to deal with a tech geek.
"Zola, don't get so worked up just yet."
Chen Yuan spun the USB drive on his fingertip, his tone light and airy, "I have a set of blueprints here that I just downloaded from the system... oh wait, from the Future Laboratory."
"The core power optimization plan for the [bio-mecha ยท Avenger Type II], as well as the construction blueprints for a neural-link cockpit."
"I heard you've been complaining that the first-generation mecha has too short a battery life and can't perform precise operations?"
Zola's roaring came to an abrupt halt.
His Adam's apple bobbed up and down, and those eyes that were originally filled with anger were instantly replaced by a gleam called 'greed'.
It was a scientist's yearning for the unknown.
"Neural... neural link?"
Zola swallowed hard and instinctively lowered his hands, "Is that the kind of... technology that allows you to control a mecha directly with your brain?"
"That's right."
Chen Yuan nodded and made a move to put the USB drive back into his pocket, "I was thinking, since you aren't willing to cooperate with the modification of the wyvern, then perhaps this project..."
"I'm willing! I'm willing!"
Before Chen Yuan could finish, Zola lunged over with an agility completely unbefitting his age and snatched the USB drive.
"Art is bullshit!"
Zola clutched the USB drive tightly, a shameless smile appearing on his face, his expression changing faster than flipping a book, "Art exists to serve war! Without firepower, even the most perfect creature is just a specimen!"
"Boss, what do you want to mount? Missiles? Cannons? Or nuclear warheads?"
"Even if you want to install a thruster on its butt, I can weld it on for you!"
Chen Yuan watched this unscrupulous madman and nodded with satisfaction.
"That's more like it."
He snapped his fingers, and the heavy gate behind him slowly opened.
"Since we've reached an understanding, let's get to work."
A dozen or so massive engineering-type Tyrants walked in.
They were no longer holding simple firearms, but heavy-duty electric drills, laser welding torches, and heavy, dark green ammunition crates.
The crates were stamped with the Lockheed Martin logo.
AGM-114 'Hellfire' air-to-ground missiles.
And two M134 Minigun six-barreled machine guns with their bases removed.
"Begin."
Chen Yuan ordered, "Don't hurt it."
The modification process was a visual feast filled with violent aesthetics.
The engineering Tyrants pinned down the restless wyvern. Although it was the overlord of the sky, on the ground, facing these equally terrifying peers, it could only emit aggrieved whimpers.
"Zzzโ โ"
The laser welding torch scorched the wyvern's hard chitinous exoskeleton, sending up wisps of blue smoke.
There were no pain nerves there, only hard keratin.
Dr. Zola directed while frantically calculating load balance on the computer.
"Left wing hardpoint, shift back three centimeters! Maintain the center of gravity!"
"Feed the ammo belt under the ribs, avoid the moving joints of the wings!"
"Connect the fire control system to its optic nerve! Let it 'see' the targeting reticle!"
Sparks flew everywhere.
Machinery and biology were forcibly fused at this moment.
The originally smooth and sleek biological lines were broken by the rugged steel racks. Cold missiles hung beneath the black scales, full of dissonance, yet carrying a suffocating sense of oppression.
Three hours later.
The modification was complete.
The wyvern slowly stood up and shook its massive wings.
Beneath its belly, two 'Hellfire' missiles were mounted on each side. At the roots of its wings, two Gatling guns protruded like fangs, with long ammunition belts extending into a custom-made ammo drum on its back.
It turned its head, looking at the 'accessories' added to its body, seemingly a bit confused, yet also curious.
That ancient wildness, bolstered by modern firepower, became even more ferocious.
"Perfect."
Chen Yuan circled the monster, reached out and tapped the missile body, producing a crisp metallic sound.
"This is the true overlord of the skies."
He turned to look at Zola, his eyes shining with satisfaction:
"All-natural, zero emissions, comes with radar stealth."
"Apart from being a bit meat-intensive, it has almost no flaws."
"Boss, the fire control system has been calibrated."
Zola, sporting two large dark circles under his eyes, reported excitedly, "Through the implanted bio-chip, it can directly understand your attack commands. Wherever you point, it will strike."
"However..."
Zola hesitated, "After all, this is the first time loading heavy weapons, I don't know if it will affect the flight posture. It's best to conduct a low-altitude test flight."
"Test flight?"
Chen Yuan looked up at the simple leather saddle that had just been installed on the wyvern's back.
It was originally designed to secure the ammo drum, but Chen Yuan had specifically ordered them to modify it into the shape of a cockpit, even adding windproof goggles and a seatbelt.
An irrepressible impulse surged from the bottom of his heart.
What is a man's ultimate dream?
Piloting a Gundam.
Riding a dragon.
Now, he had both.
"Since it's a test flight, there naturally must be a pilot."
Chen Yuan took off his camouflage jacket, revealing the form-fitting tactical vest underneath. He loosened his wrists, his eyes burning with a flame called 'edginess'.
"Boss, you don't mean to..."
Zola widened his eyes, "This is too dangerous! It hasn't even undergone wind tunnel testing! If you fall off..."
"Fall off?"
Chen Yuan chuckled, walked to the side of the wyvern, stepped onto its thick hind leg, and nimbly vaulted onto its back.
He sat in the saddle, buckled the seatbelt, and put on the goggles.
He gripped the control lever (which was actually a neural connector) installed on the wyvern's neck with both hands.
That overlooking view, the warm body temperature and powerful heartbeat coming from the giant beast beneath him, made him feel as if he had merged into one with this monster.
"Don't worry, Zola."
Chen Yuan patted the wyvern's neck, and the wyvern immediately raised its head, letting out a deafening roar that echoed throughout the underground base.
"It is my child, after all."
"If even I can't control it..."
Chen Yuan yanked the control lever, his eyes as fanatical as a madman's:
"Then no one else in this world can be a Dragon Knight!"
"Open the roof!"
"We're going to the sky to get some fresh air!"
