34: The southern wall of the northern city was breached.

Arthur didn't waste words and immediately said before David could speak:

"I noticed that many Gnoll powerhouses disappeared during this attack. They might be launching a surprise attack on the South City Wall, which is the weakest point in our defenses. Hurry and send reinforcements to the South City Wall!"

Hearing this, David also understood the severity of the situation. He hadn't noticed it before, but now that Arthur pointed it out, he scanned the battlefield and suddenly realized that there were barely any Gnoll powerhouses on the West City Wall he was defending.

But just as David was preparing to dispatch messengers and mobilize troops to reinforce the South City Wall.

Even from the other city walls several miles away, they could notice that the South City Wall suddenly fell into chaos. They could faintly hear shrieks of agony, and the horn signaling an emergency stopped abruptly halfway through its blast.

"Damn it, the Gnolls have launched their surprise attack!"

Seeing this situation, David knew it was too late and let out an angry roar.

As the South City Wall was suddenly attacked, Arthur, David, and the others keenly noticed that the Gnolls attacking their respective directions had begun to retreat.

The direction the Gnolls retreated towards was the already chaotic South City Wall.

It seemed the Gnolls were planning to make a Breakthrough from the South City Wall in one fell swoop and conquer Northern Bulwark City.

Seeing this, the defenders on the three city walls other than the South City Wall all rushed to the South City Wall for reinforcement at the fastest possible speed, after leaving behind a certain amount of defensive strength.

On Arthur's side, he left behind four thousand archers and crossbowmen, four thousand shield soldiers, and twenty Golden Sharp Lion Knights.

He rushed over, taking Karona, Chris, another Gold Knight, and two Mountain Giants with him.

"Zoffy, Zog, enter the city immediately. We will head to the South City Wall from inside the city."

"Understood, Baron!"

"Bang, bang!"

Accompanied by two deafening crashes, Zog and Zoffy leaped from outside the city walls into the city.

Afterward, the four people preparing to reinforce the defenses immediately climbed onto the Mountain Giants' shoulders. The Mountain Giants were the fastest among them and could reach the South City Wall in the shortest amount of time.

Then, a burst of earth-shattering footsteps sounded. The two Mountain Giants rushed toward the South City Wall, simultaneously kicking up a strong gust of wind.

Chris had suddenly fulfilled his dream of standing on a giant's shoulder, but the situation in the city was so urgent that he didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

At the same time Arthur acted, the people on the East and West City Walls also rushed directly to reinforce the South City Wall after leaving less than half of their defensive strength behind.

Although Arthur's Mountain Giants were very fast, the North City Wall was still slightly farther from the South City Wall compared to the East and West City Walls, so the reinforcements from all three sides arrived at the South City Wall almost simultaneously.

The horrific sight that greeted them caused Arthur and the others to frown deeply, and Karona's face grew noticeably pale.

The South City Wall was already strewn with corpses. More than half of the twenty thousand veterans originally stationed there were dead.

Even the dozen or so Lords serving as commanders there were nowhere to be found, their fate unknown.

As for the fifty thousand new recruits, they were utterly terrified and dared not advance, so their casualties were not significant.

Kenchi, an Earth Knight, along with over a dozen Gold Knight level and more than a hundred Silver Knight level Gnolls, ignored the remaining disheartened human soldiers and were currently fiercely attacking a structure.

It was an altar-like structure, protected by a transparent light barrier, which was now flickering faintly and looked like it could shatter at any moment.

"Damn it! Hurry and stop them!"

David, Arthur, and the others, who could now clearly see the situation on the South City Wall, realized what the Gnolls were doing.

The exasperated David couldn't help but curse, and even the sorrow he felt earlier upon seeing the terrible state of the South City Wall largely dissipated.

Because what the Gnolls were currently attacking was the Formation Core of the South City Wall.

Building Materials as hard as obsidian are not easy to find, so ordinary military-focused cities usually set up magic Formations after construction is complete to enhance the hardness of the city walls.

Crucial fortresses are also equipped with Anti-Flight Magic Formations and strength-suppressing Magic Formations to make defense easier.

Northern Bulwark City had four such Magic Formations set up to strengthen the defensive capabilities of its four city walls.

This way, typical Gold Knights could not breach the city walls; only Earth Knights could inflict noticeable damage.

Even then, it would require several strikes to break open a gap wide enough for one person to pass through.

Where there is a Magic Formation, there is a Formation Core. This meant that as long as Kenchi the Gnoll led the other Gnolls to destroy the Formation Core, the South City Wall of Northern Bulwark City would revert to being an ordinary stone wall.

If that happened, the South City Wall would become so weak that even Silver Knights could breach it with a single strike, and it would be easily destroyed, allowing the remaining hundred thousand Gnolls to drive straight in.

It was precisely because of the critical importance of the Formation Core that David and his group were so anxious upon seeing what the Gnolls were doing.

Unfortunately, panic was useless. David and his group were still a full five hundred meters away from the Gnolls, leaving them no time to intervene.

"Cling!"

All that awaited them was the crisp sound of the protective shield shattering, followed by the destruction of the Formation Core by the Gnolls.

Seeing this, David and his party halted their forward charge, knowing it was now pointless.

Charging in chaotically would be less effective than forming ranks and fighting to the death against the Gnolls who were about to rush in. This way, they could kill more Gnolls!

Thus, a strange sight soon appeared near the South City Wall. Separated by only a few hundred meters, the Gnolls were busy destroying the city wall that had lost its Magic Formation and waiting for the Gnolls from the other three directions to converge.

At the same time, David was quickly gathering the routing soldiers on the South City Wall and summoning the reserve defenders left behind on the other three city walls.

A sense of grief spread throughout the entire army of Northern Bulwark City. Now that the city wall was breached, fighting to the death was the only option.

Of course, that was for everyone else. Arthur did not share that sentiment, as besides owning Mountain Giants, he also possessed Sky Knights, giving him the confidence to leave gracefully.

He watched everything silently from the side, knowing that if he didn't do something now, the people of Northern Bulwark City might face disaster tonight!

So he walked up to David, who was constantly directing the troops:

"David, I have an immensely powerful Level Nine Fire Magic Scroll that can resolve the current crisis.

But as you know, such a Magic Scroll is extremely valuable, and the Gnolls pose no life threat to me.

Therefore, for me to use the scroll, you must pay the corresponding Gold Coins.

The situation is urgent, so I won't demand immediate payment, but after this battle, you must pay the Gold Coins required to purchase it!"

"What! Arthur, you actually have a precious Level Nine Fire Magic Scroll!"
