64: Instant defeat of the harpy

The thirty thousand Harpies in the sky did not launch an attack on Initial City immediately.

This was because they wanted the Orcs on the ground to draw as much of Initial City's firepower as possible, minimizing their own sacrifices when they launched their assault.

As for the lives of the other Orcs, they didn't care!

The thirty thousand Harpies remained still even after the war had begun for more than ten minutes. Watching their subordinates continuously die, the high-ranking officials of the other three races grew anxious.

The temporary commander, Gnoll Henke, couldn't help but shout toward the Harpies in the sky:

“Everyone, the war has been going on for a long time. Is it time to attack?”

Hearing this, the Harpies' high-ranking members looked at the eyes of the other three races on the ground, which were quickly turning into anger, and knew it was time to attack.

Moreover, the Minotaur Chieftain was still watching them from higher up, so they couldn't push it too far!

Then they roared:

“Attack!”

Considering that thirty thousand people were still too few, the Harpies did not split up to attack the four walls, but instead concentrated their attack on the North City Wall of Initial City, which faced them.

After all, as long as one city wall was breached, the Orc Army could drive straight in; there was no need to divide their forces and weaken themselves.

On the other side, Arthur felt a burst of joy when he saw the Harpy Army coming straight toward them.

Because if the Harpies didn't split their forces and stayed gathered, the damage would be much more significant when the Meteor Shower Scroll was used... According to intelligence, Initial City's air defense was weak, aside from the numerous gale repeating crossbows that could shoot three or four hundred meters high.

There was also one Fire Magister, but a Magister's attack range was only one thousand meters.

The remaining ballistae and the rocks thrown by the Mountain Giants posed less of a threat to the Harpies.

Thus, the Harpies pressed toward the North City Wall, positioning themselves 1,500 meters above Initial City, a height they deemed relatively safe.

The thirty thousand Harpies were mostly Archers, although their bows were rather crude.

But because they had the advantage of height, even ordinary stone arrows, when shot from a thousand meters high, had enough power to pierce metal and stone.

This was much more threatening than Arthur's previous assumption that ordinary Harpies would carry rocks weighing tens of pounds!

After all, if they carried rocks weighing tens of pounds, an ordinary Harpy could only carry one and would have to retreat after a single attack, but bows and arrows could be shot many times.

Arthur, David, and the other Lords were standing on top of the North City Wall, and they were all inwardly delighted when they saw the Harpies approaching in the way they had anticipated.

But no one showed it, because Harpies possessed the eyesight of an eagle, and any change in expression might be noticed.

A moment later, when the Harpies truly reached 1,500 meters above Initial City.

Arthur, David, and the others exchanged a knowing look, then, with lightning speed, took out five entirely crimson scrolls from their space rings.

They then injected Battle Qi and tore the scrolls. In an instant, five dazzling Magic Arrays lit up above Initial City.

Violent Fire Elements furiously gathered in the sky, condensing into five hundred one-meter-sized Fireballs above the five Magic Arrays, causing the temperature near Initial City to rise significantly, sending heat waves rolling.

As soon as this scene appeared, not only the humans but also the charging Orcs couldn't help but stop in their tracks.

After all, the might of five Ninth-level Magic spells appearing simultaneously was truly terrifying, causing people to tremble involuntarily.

Seeing this scene, Gnoll Henke widened his wolf eyes. Half a year ago, the Gnolls had failed their siege precisely because of the Meteor Shower Magic Scroll.

He had previously heard the surviving Gnolls describe that type of magic; it was the same as the current scene, but the difference was that five had appeared at once this time.

Henke immediately realized that the Harpies were likely doomed!

It wasn't just Henke and his group; even Minotaur Kote and the human Sky Knight Flynn, who were thousands of meters in the sky, showed expressions of astonishment.

Because Ninth-level Magic wasn't commonplace; even with their combined strength, being surrounded by five streams of Meteor Shower Magic would likely result in serious injury.

This was only because Meteor Shower was an Area-of-effect Magic spell!

Flynn knew Arthur had produced such scrolls before, but he hadn't expected him to produce five at once. This was a reserve of power that even the Imperial Family might not possess!

He couldn't help but exclaim in admiration:

“It seems I still underestimated him!”

In contrast, Minotaur Kote looked down at Arthur, who was standing at the head of the crowd on the city wall, flames burning in his bull eyes, clearly furious!

He knew that this war against humanity was going to fail again because of this man!

Countless people on the battlefield knew the terror of those five magic spells, and the thirty thousand Harpies, who were the targets of the five spells, felt as if the God of Death himself had arrived.

Many Harpies became completely terrified.

The first to react from the terror were the Experts among the Harpies, followed by a piercing cry of:

“Retreat!” which echoed across the sky.

Hearing this, the thirty thousand Harpies, ignoring the feathers on their bodies that were already curling slightly due to the extreme heat, fled into the distance.

Unfortunately, one of the advantages of a Magic Scroll over a Mage is that it requires no incantation and the casting speed is extremely fast.

Less than two seconds after the magic arrays appeared, the five hundred Fireballs had fully condensed.

The Harpies who had recovered their senses hadn't flown far at all when the five hundred Fireballs from the Magic Arrays shot toward them like cannonballs.

When a Fireball struck a Harpy, it exploded like a cannon shell, covering an area tens of meters in radius.

This caused dozens of nearby Harpies to either turn to ash or become lumps of charcoal, plummeting toward the ground.

This massive explosion was then repeated five hundred times under the gaze of countless people, resulting in the incomparably horrifying screams of the thirty thousand Harpies!

However, since the Harpies' positioning in the sky was not extremely dense, nearly three thousand Harpies still remained after the magic ended!

This was significantly less effective than the Meteor Shower's previous record of instantly killing over ten thousand people on the ground!

However, these remaining three thousand were almost all ordinary Harpies who had previously been on the outskirts of the Harpy formation.

The Experts located in the center were mostly blasted to death.

Although these three thousand Harpies were lucky enough to survive, they were clearly terrified out of their wits.

Even though the magic had ended, they still didn't stop running, flying continuously in the direction away from Initial City.

It was only after flying five kilometers away that they slowly stopped, still shaken with lingering fear!

Afterward, the remaining three thousand Harpies looked back at Initial City with incredibly complex emotions: fear, anger, and even hatred!

Naturally, the strongest emotion among them was fear!

Furthermore, the more than one million Orcs on the ground also showed confusion and bewilderment in their eyes.

Just a few minutes ago, they had a favorable situation where victory was almost certain, yet now their powerful reinforcements, the Harpies, were almost completely wiped out in the blink of an eye.

Their reliance was instantly gone. The huge contrast left the more than one million Orcs around Initial City stunned, followed by a massive drop in morale!
