65: Exchange for three more Sky Knights

In contrast, the humans in the city, realizing they had once again foiled the beastmen's plot, immediately cheered loudly.

“Lord Arthur’s Divine Might!”

“Lord David’s Divine Might!”

...Since the scrolls were torn by Arthur, David, and three others, the cheering soldiers were almost all shouting their five names.

Seeing the human morale soar while their own was completely gone, the beastman generals hastily blew the horn of retreat!

Watching the beastmen flee in disarray, the human cheers grew even louder!

On the north city wall, David and the others beside Arthur were also extremely excited.

After the excitement, David also said to Arthur:

“Among the remaining three thousand Harpies, there is only one Silver Rank expert; the rest are Bronze Rank and ordinary beastmen. They are no longer a threat!

Arthur, you have once again led us to defeat the beastmen!”

With that, David tightly gripped Arthur's arm, looking as if it was all thanks to him.

In response, Arthur smiled modestly:

“It's not that exaggerated. It was just a coincidence that we had a few magic scrolls. Everyone’s efforts were also indispensable!”

Arthur said so, but everyone else didn't think so, and they all offered another round of compliments!

Immediately, a joyful scene unfolded on the north wall of Initial City.

However, the atmosphere thousands of meters above was somewhat tense.

Flynn was currently staring intently at Minotaur Kote, who was seething with rage, afraid that Kote would rush into Initial City and go on a killing spree to vent his anger if he wasn't careful.

To be honest, Kote really did have the idea of rushing down to kill indiscriminately.

Because he knew that without the help of the Harpies, the remaining million-plus beastmen could not conquer Initial City. In other words, they had failed!

How could this not make him furious!

But when he saw Flynn staring at him from the side, he knew it was impossible. Finally, after snorting a puff of hot air from his nostrils, he suppressed the impulse in his heart.

Leaving behind a harsh remark:

“Hmph, consider yourselves lucky this time, humans!”

Then he turned and headed towards the beastman camp below.

After Kote left, Flynn flew towards Arthur by the north city wall.

Arthur and the others spotted the two streaks of light separating in the sky, knowing that the confrontation between the two Sky Knights had come to an end.

They then quieted down, awaiting Flynn's arrival.

A few seconds later, as soon as Flynn appeared beside everyone, he was all smiles, clearly very happy.

In just a few days, Arthur and the others had eliminated hundreds of thousands of beastmen. For Flynn, who was part of the hawkish faction, this was excellent news.

So, he looked at everyone, especially Arthur, with immense satisfaction.

“I've been watching your performance these past few days, and you've done very well.

I will report your merits to the kingdom, and you will be rewarded when titles are conferred two and a half years later.”

Actually, as pioneering lords, Arthur and the others killed beastmen for self-preservation and would not normally receive rewards from the kingdom.

But since Flynn, a Sky Knight, had spoken, there would certainly be some compensation, more or less, afterwards.

“Thank you, Duke Flynn!”

Since he said he would give them rewards, Arthur and the others naturally had to express their gratitude.

After praising everyone, Flynn shifted his gaze to Arthur again:

“Arthur, your performance particularly satisfies me. To be honest, if it weren't for your marriage alliance with the Marquis of Roses’s legitimate daughter, I would even want my granddaughter to marry you!

That Marquis of Roses really got a bargain!”

Hearing this, Arthur was stunned by Flynn's sudden mention of marrying off his granddaughter.

But for him to say such a thing meant that Flynn thought extremely highly of him!

A smile involuntarily appeared on his face as he replied:

“Thank you for your high regard, Duke Flynn. It can only be blamed on this young man's lack of good fortune!”

“Haha, I didn’t expect you, young man, to be quite good with words!”

...Although they had guessed that the beastmen would retreat, as long as they hadn't truly retreated,

the people of Initial City could not truly relax. So even though Arthur and the others were chatting and laughing continuously, they all stood on the city wall, their gazes occasionally sweeping over the distant beastmen, watching for any special movements.

the people of Initial City could not truly relax. So even though Arthur and the others were chatting and laughing continuously, they all stood on the city wall, their gazes occasionally sweeping over the distant beastmen, watching for any special movements.

In the beastman camp, in the same huge tent, Minotaur Kote was standing in the center of the tent, constantly scanning the several high-ranking beastman officials below with an expression as if looking at trash.

Below, Gnoll Hank, the Harpies' survivors, and others all had their heads bowed, not daring to meet Kote's gaze.

Kote knew that even angry scolding would be useless at this point. After a helpless sigh, he asked with a glimmer of hope:

“Do any of you have any other way to take Initial City?”

Clearly, no one had a solution, so there was another silence.

After a long while, Kote reluctantly issued his command:

“Since we can’t take it, there’s no point wasting food here. Let’s return to the capital!”

It should be known that the beastmen's food production was not high, and a million-plus beastmen going to war consumed a lot of food.

They had originally thought they could easily capture several human cities and thus acquire large amounts of food!

But unexpectedly, the humans got the news first and retreated, leaving them very little in the cities, and even less food.

Afterward, they believed that even ten days' worth of food would be enough to conquer Initial City, but now it seemed they had overestimated themselves!

Now, even if the beastmen wanted to continue attacking, their food reserves would only last them five more days, so it was better to retreat!

Everyone remained silent, clearly acquiescing to Kote's decision!

Half an hour later, Arthur and the others on the city wall clearly saw the beastmen beginning to pack up their tents and other items; it seemed they were truly preparing to retreat!

After several more minutes, the packed-up beastmen began to head north until their figures slowly disappeared from sight!

However, they still couldn't completely relax. After waiting a few more hours, the scouting falcons sent back news.

The beastmen had already reached the north of Northern Bulwark City and City Stabilizing the Wasteland, which were originally the human borders!

It seemed the beastmen had truly retreated!

Upon receiving this news, the people of Initial City finally truly relaxed, followed by joyful celebrations!

Arthur was naturally one of the celebrants, but what no one knew was that Arthur’s other plan was already in motion.

The beastmen had come all the way to his doorstep, so how could Arthur not teach them a lesson? Otherwise, they would really think he was easy to bully!

However, this lesson couldn't be given openly, so Arthur directly arranged for Victor, Wilson, and three other Sky Knights to pursue the beastmen!

Yes, five Sky Knights. To be safe, Arthur had redeemed three more Sky Knights.

Moreover, in Arthur's view, although the beastmen were poor, their strong individuals must have a lot of wealth. As long as he got his hands on that money,

Arthur would not only get back the thirty million gold coins he spent on these three Sky Knights but would also make a huge profit!
