167: Chapter 167 Taking Down the Defense Tower
"Me, go over there?"
Chen Fan pointed at his own nose, somewhat unable to believe it.
The scene of several waves of Crew Members being instantly killed was still vivid in his mind.
If it weren't for his absolute trust in Lairuilei, Chen Fan would have thought she had been possessed and was trying to set him up.
Lairuilei smiled, reached out, and touched the stone pillar:
"Yes, it won't hit you anymore, right, defense turret?"
"Pfft..." Chen Fan chuckled.
What was wrong with this girl, actually talking to a stone pillar?
However, something unexpected happened.
After Lairuilei's right hand touched the stone pillar, the top of the pillar actually bent.
It looked just like a person nodding.
"Holy sh*t?"
Chen Fan was shocked; this stone pillar was actually alive?
As if seeing Chen Fan's hesitation, the stone pillar even tilted its top towards him.
Seeing this, Chen Fan hesitated.
Should he go and try?
What if it works?
After struggling for a long time, he gritted his teeth, slightly lifted his right foot, stepped into the 600-meter range, and immediately looked up.
The air suddenly went quiet...
One tall, one short, the stone pillar and Lairuilei watched Chen Fan as if he were an idiot.
"Ahem..."
Chen Fan coughed twice, his old face flushing red, and he walked forward a few steps.
Seeing that the stone pillar still had no intention of attacking, he breathed a sigh of relief and quickly approached.
"Did you just call it a defense turret?"
After getting closer, Chen Fan also reached out to touch the stone pillar.
"Yes, it is our guardian." Lairuilei nodded.
"You guys?" Chen Fan looked the stone pillar up and down, feeling somewhat confused.
"I don't remember very clearly either. Back home, this big guy always helped us guard the gate. So when I first saw it, I felt a sense of familiarity."
Lairuilei tilted her head, frowning, trying to recall.
"Fine, then is it willing to come with us?"
"Yeah, Master, try to Recruit it."
Chen Fan nodded and hesitantly reached out his right hand towards the defense turret.
"Recruit."
In an instant, the ten-meter-tall defense turret gradually disappeared, finally turning into a beam of light that flew into Chen Fan's body.
[Ding.]
[Recruit successful: defense turret x1.]
[defense turret: Deals 100 damage to all enemy units, Attack Range: 600 meters. Attack Interval: 0.5 seconds.]
Chen Fan's eyes lit up; it actually worked.
Opening the Crew Member space, a miniature version of the defense turret stood alone in a grid.
"Alright, let's keep going forward. There's a familiar aura inside."
Lairuilei clapped her hands with a smile.
Just then, another team of soldiers walked out from the shadows.
Chen Fan was about to draw his gun, but Lairuilei waved her hand.
Chen Fan was a bit confused but still put the gun away.
Soon, four soldiers walked in front of them, walking straight outwards as if they couldn't see them.
"Huh?"
Vase reached out and pushed the Archer.
The Archer stumbled from the push.
Without even turning to look at Vase, it just adjusted its bow and continued forward.
"Wow, they are so dull." Vase covered her mouth and exclaimed.
"Don't tease them; they have no consciousness. Because I am here, they don't attack us."
Lairuilei explained.
Chen Fan nodded slightly; it seemed this island was indeed related to Lairuilei.
He just didn't know what the familiar aura she mentioned was.
With a wave of his hand, the S-Class Crew Member led the team, and the group set off inwards again.
Chen Fan and the others stayed where they were.
Along the way, the images from the surveillance were gradually shrouded in a haze.
After walking for nearly ten minutes, a high slope, steeper than the place Chen Fan was staying, appeared before them.
"Wow, this slope is over ten meters, right?"
"This can't even be called a slope; it should be considered a wall."
"Should we go up and take a look?"
Chen Fan waved his hand, "Go! Anyway, Crew Members can be resurrected if they die."
Upon his order, over six thousand Crew Members began climbing the slope.
The mist became thicker, and visibility dropped to three meters.
Chen Fan narrowed his eyes, and Exploration was activated instantly.
However, the usually foolproof Exploration actually failed.
It couldn't be said it failed completely; the scenery ahead could still be seen. Behind the high slope was an empty plain.
But under the shroud of mist, the plain was hazy, and it was unclear what was inside.
Six thousand Crew Members climbed the slope, rested for a moment, and continued forward.
As the Crew Members broke through the mist, Chen Fan's vision became clearer.
Suddenly.
A flash of red light streaked by.
Six thousand Crew Members, along with all the S-Class Crew Members, instantly collapsed, with no survivors.
This eerie scene, however, made Chen Fan's eyes light up.
"Xin?!!"
The Five Women also immediately realized.
Wasn't this red light the Xin they had encountered before?
"The previous remnant soul of Xin was guarding Lilai. Could there be another S-Class Crew Member this time?"
Jiu Jiu leaned in close to Chen Fan, looking somewhat excited.
"Hard to say. If there is, that's even better; if not, the gains from this trip are already enough."
Chen Fan smiled slightly, his right hand unable to resist touching the system space.
Collecting a defense turret was already worth it.
"Mhm, what should we do next? Should we still send Kadel?"
Hearing this, Kadel took a swig of wine and snorted proudly.
However, Chen Fan said directly: "No need. Did you forget I have a sniper rifle?"
"Cough, cough, cough..."
Kadel choked on the strong alcohol, kept rubbing his chest, and swept a resentful glance at Chen Fan.
Chen Fan smiled and took out the sniper rifle, "However, first, we have to let the Crew Members exhaust its energy."
"Go!"
Chen Fan waved his hand, again ordering the Crew Members to move forward.
Wave after wave of Crew Members used their lives to exhaust Xin's energy.
Without Lilai's Arcane Aura, this remnant soul only lasted a short while before running out of energy.
The last batch of Crew Members even got within three hundred meters of Xin before being scorched to death by the Blaze Shield.
"Out of energy? Then it's my turn."
Chen Fan chuckled and quietly climbed to the top of the slope in a direction completely different from the previous Crew Members.
The previous Crew Members had already tested it out; the edge of the slope was outside the attack range of the Shadowless Fist.
Even if the opponent still had energy for the Shadowless Fist, it couldn't hit him.
Peeking his head out slightly and locking onto Xin's position, Chen Fan pulled back.
Setting up the sniper rifle, Chen Fan attached the silencer.
Placing the sniper rifle on the edge of the high slope, exposing a small part of the barrel, he aimed at the blurry figure in the mist.
"Can't see, can't hear, and out of energy. You can one-shot me with this?"
Chen Fan snorted and pulled the trigger.
The moment the bullet flew out, the Explosion effect attached to it.
Carrying the sound of wind-breaking, the bullet tore through the night sky and instantly flew in front of Xin.
Just when Chen Fan thought this shot would kill this remnant soul of Xin, bursts of flames began to rise.
The space around Xin was somewhat distorted by the scorching flames.
The bullet seemed to have hit an invisible wall, strangely stopping in the space in front of Xin.
Bang—
The Explosion effect caused the bullet to detonate.
The aftermath was completely blocked by the distorted space.
