295: Chapter 295 The Meng family goes to Dafen
Chen You looked up at the deep blue city hanging upside down in the sky.
He didn't have any health-depleting debuffs.
"Climbing the chains is too slow."
Chen You's gaze sharpened.
The cultivation of the Qi Refining Eighth Layer within his body surged into motion.
Pale gold spiritual energy enveloped his body, and a sword light flared up.
The flying sword emitted a crisp ring and hovered in front of Chen You.
Chen You stepped onto the blade, intending to soar into the sky.
The moment his feet left the ground, a very subtle red glow suddenly flashed deep within the upside-down Cangxing City above.
An irresistible force of law crashed down.
*Splat.*
The ascension dao sword instantly lost all its spirituality and slammed onto the ice like a piece of scrap metal.
Chen You followed with a stumble, nearly falling flat on his face.
[System Warning: Starfall Abyss is an absolute No-Fly Zone! Flight is impossible within the No-Fly Field!]
Chen You steadied himself, his mouth twitching as he looked at the blood-red words popping up in his vision.
Fine.
No flying allowed.
He turned his head to look at the four players behind him.
The situation was unbearable to look at.
The health bar of the goblin, I Love Forgiveness, had already turned a dark, bruised red.
With trembling hands, he pulled out a bottle of basic health potion.
The moment the potion left the bottle's mouth, it didn't even have time to transition—it instantly froze into a red popsicle.
He looked at the popsicle in despair, then at his own health-depletion rate of 2% per second.
The werewolf Howl Under the Moon's proud constitution had become a joke here.
His wolf fur became the best material for conducting cold; his entire body was as stiff as a low-quality specimen in a museum.
The skeleton Singular Skeletal Structure had it the worst.
His soul fire was as weak as a flickering candle in the wind, and even his jaw was frozen to his sternum, preventing him from making his signature "clack clack" sound.
The ghost player floated in mid-air, his originally flowing bandages frozen solid into blocks of ice that hung straight down.
"God... God You," the goblin stammered, his lips blue and purple.
"Don't worry about us. At this rate of health loss, even taking potions won't save us."
The werewolf struggled to move his eyes, nodding along. "Yeah, God You. We... can't hold on."
The skeleton used the last of his strength to pry his frozen thumb bone straight, giving a thumbs-up.
"God You, being able to ride in a luxury RV with you, eat hotpot... and discover this secret realm... my life... is worth it!"
The goblin echoed loudly, a fanatical light shining in his eyes. "That's right! Following God You, witnessing an epic... even dying is worth it!"
The werewolf let out a long howl toward the sky, though his voice sounded like a strangled duck because of his frozen vocal cords. "Worth it!"
The atmosphere suddenly became tragic and heroic.
Faced with a mythic-level disaster, these four low-level players showed a tragic resolve to face death.
Just then.
Mountain Stone Fault, frozen into a ball in the driver's seat, suddenly looked up.
The old man's snot hung by his mouth, frozen into a long icicle.
Tears streamed down his face as he shouted in a raspy voice, "Young Hero! This old man... I'm also worth it!"
Chen You's eyelid twitched violently.
He couldn't help but curse in his heart:
Worth your ass!
These four idiots are players; if they die, they just have to run back to their corpses.
You're a freaking NPC!
Why are you joining in the fun?
Have you been infected by the 'idiot virus' of these players?!
Before Chen You could start scolding, the goblin's health bar was completely emptied.
"God You, we'll wait for your triumphant return outside!"
The goblin shouted, his body turning into a blinding white light that dissipated in the wind and snow.
Next was the werewolf.
He struck what he thought was the coolest pose of howling at the sky and also turned into white light.
The skeleton's soul fire was completely extinguished, his bones scattered across the ground, and then followed the white light into disappearance.
The ghost player was simply frozen into a block of ice; when the wind blew, he shattered into ice shards with a 'crack' and turned into white light.
The transparent carriage was suddenly quiet.
Only Chen You remained, along with Mountain Stone Fault, who was gasping for breath over the "steering wheel" with only a sliver of health left.
Chen You didn't move.
He stood quietly in place, letting the wind and snow batter him.
One minute.
Two minutes.
Three minutes.
The ice surface was empty.
No players in soul form came to pick up their corpses, and there were no special effect lights of resurrection.
Chen You rubbed his chin.
It seemed the mechanics here were very clear.
Once you die, you are directly kicked out of this hidden map or forcibly teleported back to the resurrection point.
He looked down at his hands, feeling the abundant spiritual energy within his body.
Fear? It didn't exist.
This body he was using now was just an avatar.
His true original body was currently staying safe and sound in the training room of the Supreme Tower.
Even if this avatar died here, it would just be a matter of waiting for the cooldown to summon it again.
The cost of trial and error was minimized to the extreme—this was the confidence that allowed him to explore unknown mythic ruins.
He turned to look at Mountain Stone Fault.
The old man had already frozen unconscious.
Chen You sighed, pulled a peiyuan pill from his backpack, and roughly shoved it into the old man's mouth.
He was a guide, after all; keeping him alive might still be useful.
Though he didn't know if the man could hold on.
After doing all this, Chen You looked up.
His gaze pierced through the swirling snow and locked onto the massive black chain connecting the abyss to the upside-down city.
"If I can't fly, then I'll climb."
Chen You set off, walking toward the chain against the seventy-degrees-below-zero gale.
The closer he got, the more he could feel that suffocating sense of pressure.
Reaching the base of the chain, Chen You stopped.
He looked up.
This chain was even more exaggerated than what he had seen from a distance.
Every single link in the chain was three stories high.
The surface of the iron rings was covered in a layer of dark red ice, looking like blood that had been frozen for ten thousand years.
The gale blew through the gaps in the massive iron rings, producing a dull, thunderous sound of metal clashing.
This simply wasn't a path meant for humans to walk.
Standing below the iron ring, Chen You was as tiny as a speck of dust.
He took a deep breath, preparing to mobilize his spiritual energy to climb.
Suddenly, his gaze lingered on the very bottom iron ring.
On the flat side of the iron ring, rows of massive characters were carved.
The characters emitted a faint, eerie glow, appearing and disappearing in the wind and snow.
Chen You was stunned for a moment.
In this kind of epic mythic ruin, the words carved at the entrance usually recorded world-shaking secrets.
They were either the curses of ancient gods or warnings for suppressing peerless great demons.
Chen You couldn't help but lean in.
Those words were translated by the system; different civilizations would see the script of their own language.
Filled with reverence, Chen You held his breath and stared intently at the translated Huaxia language.
The first line of text:
[High-altitude work, extremely high risk coefficient. Non-professionals, please do not climb.]
Chen You: ?
The second line of text:
[For those who fall into the abyss without wearing safety ropes, this construction team shall not be held responsible. Family members, do not come to cause a scene; there is no money for compensation.]
Chen You: ??
The third line of text:
[Construction Unit: Thousand Light City Meng Clan Contracting Team.]
Chen You: ???
He stood blankly in the seventy-degrees-below-zero cold wind, looking at these three lines of text, his mind feeling as if ten thousand mythical beasts were stampeding through it.
What the hell is 'high-altitude work'!
What the hell is a 'construction team'!
Just what kind of weirdos were the ancestors of the Thousand Light City Meng Family?!
