312: Chapter 312 As long as the money is right, even a myth can be destroyed!

Chen You stopped in his tracks.

He looked at Buck, who was waving glow sticks with both hands and swaying his thick waist while leading the way, and raised an eyebrow.

"Wait."

Buck immediately froze in place.

He turned around, the fat on his face bunching together to squeeze out an extremely fawning smile.

"Lord Special Commissioner, what are your orders? Is it that your subordinate is walking too fast, or is the air here not fitting for someone of your status?"

"I tried to give you gold coins just now, and you talked to me about rules," Chen You spoke, neither happy nor angry.

"You even said I was insulting your title as 'Outstanding Employee' for three consecutive years. Why are you starting to complain now?"

Buck didn't change his expression; he even straightened his back.

"My Lord, you wouldn't understand this," Buck explained solemnly.

"Just now, you were an outsider with no clearance. Taking your money would be called bribery, a violation of the Ancestral Iron Law."

"I, Buck, am a man of principle. I would never do such a thing."

Chen You raised an eyebrow. "And now?"

"Now, you are the Special Commissioner holding the sacred object!" Buck clasped his hands together and raised them above his head.

"The money you give now isn't called money; it's called 'Special Operation Funds' allocated by a superior!"

"It's legal funding used to improve the lives of mining area employees and increase work efficiency. Is the nature of it the same?"

Chen You was amused.

The NPC intelligence logic of this Source Realm system was simply incredible.

This ability to trim one's sails to the wind would make him a slick old hand in the workplace even in the real world.

It turned out he only dared to take the money once his official status was confirmed.

"Fine." Chen You nodded. "Tell me, what special services do you have?"

Buck's eyes lit up, and he immediately put away the glow sticks.

He reached into the deep pocket of his overalls, fumbled for a long time, and pulled out a crumpled mimeographed sheet, handing it to Chen You with both hands.

Chen You took it and saw various price lists densely written on it.

"Look, My Lord." Buck leaned in, pointing to the first line.

"The depths of this mine are full of mutated machines infected by that eerie rhythm. The electronic music they emit is a high-intensity mental pollution."

"If you just walk in without wearing protective equipment, you might be slowed and blinded."

Buck rubbed his large, rough hands. "For 500 gold coins, I can provide you with a set of 'Exclusive Noise-Canceling Headphones'."

"Wear them to become immune to all mental pollution debuffs. They even have built-in soothing light music to protect your hearing health."

Chen You glanced into the depths of the tunnel, noncommittal.

"Continue," Chen You gestured.

"1,000 gold coins for a Special Music Decoy Trap." Buck pointed to the second line, his tone becoming excited.

"My Lord's time is precious. This mine extends in all directions; it would be a waste of energy for you to hunt monsters one by one."

"I have a high-power mining area broadcast device here with built-in out-of-print heavy metal rock music."

"Just find a spacious place to set it down, press the switch, and it can pull all the mutated monsters within a five-mile radius."

"You just need to stand there and dish out damage. Your efficiency will be a hundredfold."

Chen You's eyes lit up.

This was good stuff.

"What about this one below?" Chen You pointed to the bottom of the price list, where a line of text was circled in red pen.

Buck looked around, lowered his voice, and leaned into Chen You's ear.

"2,000 gold coins for the Final BOSS Suicide Package."

Chen You froze.

He turned to look at Buck, his eyes full of skepticism.

"Suicide?" Chen You asked. "You're just a peripheral supervisor; you can make the final BOSS kill itself?"

Buck slapped his broad chest, making a dull thud.

"Rest assured, My Lord. That source of mutation in the power room is actually just an out-of-control, oversized mechanical aggregate."

"I have the power control permissions for it. As long as the money is right, I'll pull the plug and cut the power, then flood its cooling system with high-concentration acid."

"It won't even see your face before it's scrapped on the spot."

Buck grinned, revealing a mouthful of yellow teeth. "In a word: as long as the money is right, even myths can be scrapped!"

Chen You took a deep breath.

This game could be played like this?

Paying an NPC to directly change background data to kill monsters?

However, at this moment, Chen You was more interested in that monster-gathering function.

The monsters in a dungeon must number in the hundreds, and they all have control skills!

Who needs headphones? This was an excellent opportunity to grind proficiency!

Proficiency for the third form of the Heaven-Breaking Sword Technique, Control Below, had been progressing slowly precisely because he lacked such conditions.

Chen You shifted his gaze from the crumpled mimeographed sheet and tapped heavily on the second line twice.

"One thousand gold coins for the Special Music Decoy Trap."

His tone carried a hint of urgency. "I want this."

As soon as he finished speaking, a pile of glittering gold coins appeared out of thin air, forming a small mountain in the dark mine tunnel.

The gold coins clinked against each other, making a crisp sound.

Buck's breathing instantly became heavy.

He squatted down, his hands quickly rummaging through the pile of gold coins, the fat on his face trembling violently with excitement.

After finishing the count, Buck stood up, wiped his hands hard on his overalls twice, and gave an extremely fawning smile.

"My Lord is straightforward! One thousand gold coins received in full." Buck rubbed his hands.

"As for those five-hundred-gold noise-canceling headphones, do you want them now, or will you wait until we get there to put them on?"

"I'll pick out a pink pair for you; it suits your temperament."

"No headphones," Chen You refused flatly.

The smile on Buck's face froze instantly.

He blinked, thinking he had misheard.

"My Lord, what did you just say?" Buck leaned forward.

"I said, no headphones. Just the decoy trap to pull all the monsters over," Chen You repeated.

Buck suddenly jumped back two steps, his hands waving frantically in front of him, his head shaking so fast it left afterimages.

"No! Absolutely not!" Buck lowered his voice, his tone urgent.

"My Lord, you haven't been to the depths. The electronic music from those mutated machines is real, high-intensity mental pollution!"

"If you walk in without protective equipment, at best you'll be blinded and slowed; at worst, you'll go mad on the spot and even hack your own people!"

Buck pointed at the flickering eerie blue light in the depths of the tunnel and swallowed hard.

"You are the Special Commissioner holding the sacred object. If you die in there and the City Lord investigates, my title as 'Outstanding Employee' for three consecutive years will be completely ruined."

"Funds are funds, but life is life!"

Chen You remained unmoved.

Looking at Buck's anxious appearance, he felt that this NPC's intelligence logic was indeed interesting.

"You just set up the equipment; you don't need to worry about the rest."

"My Lord!" Buck stamped his feet in frustration.

"How about this, I'll give you twenty percent off the headphones? Four hundred gold coins! Three hundred is fine too! You have to think about safety, don't you?"

"I said, no headphones." Chen You frowned slightly.

Buck's eyes widened, filled with fear of the unknown and extreme incomprehension.

He looked at Chen You, and after confirming the other party wasn't joking, he let out a heavy sigh.

"Fine. Good advice is lost on a ghost hell-bent on dying." Buck turned around and dragged a half-person-tall rusty iron box out of his large storage bag.

The surface of the iron box was covered in rivets, with two thick antennas sticking out of the top and a large red button on the side.

Buck carried the iron box, leading the way.

The two passed through the long, narrow tunnel and arrived at an extremely spacious underground Ore-Sorting Plaza.

Towering remains of conveyor belts stood around the plaza, and the ground was covered with shattered metal plates.

A few dim lighting stones were embedded in the rock ceiling, casting a ghastly white light.

"This is the place." Buck set the iron box down heavily in the very center of the plaza.

He skillfully connected several exposed wires, placed his finger on the red button, and turned to look at Chen You.

"My Lord, one last confirmation. If I press this, all the monsters in this mine will be drawn here. It's not too late for you to regret this."

Chen You walked to the center of the plaza, his face showing no fear, but rather a hint of anticipation.

"Press it."

Buck gritted his teeth and slapped the red button hard.

Then, without looking back, he ran toward an abandoned mine cart at the edge of the plaza.
