420: Chapter 420 Let's Compare Numbers
Above the arena, golden specks of light fell like rain.
"I Am Big" stuck out his rear and frantically scoured the ground, sweeping several pieces of purple-glowing equipment and materials into his backpack before running back to the stands with satisfaction.
The crowd of players erupted in a cheer that threatened to blow the roof off.
"Long live God You!"
Chen You stood on the floating disc, listening to the deafening flattery, but there wasn't a hint of a smile on his face.
He had won, but he had won too cunningly.
The Exorcism Talisman was a dimensional strike against spiritual bodies, but what if the next round featured a physical monster with high physical and magic resistance?
The highest-level players entering were only in their forties, while the monsters being spawned were all level fifty or sixty.
Even if he could fully equip a level 40 player, the gap in base attributes was still there.
It would be a one-sided slaughter without any suspense.
"Hey, you up in the sky."
Chen You looked up, his voice spreading throughout the arena via an amplification formation, "Stop wasting everyone's time."
"Combine the remaining three rounds into one, and let's settle it in a single match."
"I'll step onto the field myself, and you can send out whoever you want."
The nebula vortex high in the sky suddenly stagnated for a moment.
Augustus's cold voice descended, carrying a high and mighty majesty.
"The contract is set; the rules cannot be altered."
"You are the commander; the general cannot enter the field to fight."
"If you take even half a step into the arena, the trial will be immediately judged a failure, and all participants will be obliterated."
Chen You rolled his eyes.
This damn system really starts cheating when it can't afford to lose.
If the hired help can't win, the boss isn't allowed to step in?
"Second round, Trial side wins," Augustus said, giving Chen You no chance to bargain. "Third round, the Arbiter's general enters the field."
The obsidian gate on the other side of the arena crashed open.
Heavy footsteps caused the entire grounds to tremble.
A giant beast nearly ten meters tall squeezed out from the shadows.
It was a troll composed entirely of dark red rock, with lava-like patterns flowing across its body.
It had no weapons; its two massive fists were its most lethal battering rams.
[Lava Troll Batulak]
[Level: 60]
[Type: Heavy Armored Lord]
[Traits: 80% Physical Damage Reduction, 70% Magic Resistance, Immune to Control.]
The cheers from the stands stopped abruptly, like a duck being strangled.
"Holy crap, just looking at these stats makes me feel like my weapon's going to chip."
"Resistance is that high? How do we fight this? Smash it with our heads?"
"This is a damn solid block of iron!"
The players looked at each other, and no one dared to sign up as enthusiastically as before.
If you went up and took a punch from that thing, there probably wouldn't even be ashes left.
Augustus's cold laugh echoed in the air: "Trialist, your subordinates seem to have lost their courage."
"If no one accepts the challenge within ten seconds, this round will be judged a loss."
"Ten."
"Nine."
Chen You rubbed his chin.
The general can't enter; a subordinate must be sent.
Those were the rules.
"Fine," Chen You suddenly smiled. "As long as I don't go in, anyone else is fine, right?"
"Naturally," Augustus said arrogantly. "But do you still have any soldiers capable of fighting?"
Chen You didn't waste words.
He raised his right hand and grabbed the air.
A blinding golden light tore through the dim light of the arena.
The innate spiritual treasure yuhuang sword appeared in his hand, its blade humming and emitting a heart-palpitatingly sharp sword qi.
Every eye in the arena focused instantly.
Chen You didn't even look at the roaring Lava Troll; he flicked his wrist.
"Go."
The yuhuang sword turned into a golden meteor, thrown straight toward the center of the arena like a javelin.
"Clang—!"
The longsword plunged straight into the black stone floor, the hilt vibrating violently and letting out a crisp sword chime.
The air was deathly silent.
Augustus's voice carried a hint of bewilderment: "What is the meaning of this? Throwing away your sword to surrender?"
"Surrender my ass," Chen You crossed his arms. "I've sent my subordinate to battle."
"Hurry up, ring the bell and start."
"Absurd! How can a dead object be counted as a subordinate? You are desecrating the Sacred Judgment!" Augustus roared, the nebula vortex beginning to churn violently as thunder faintly gathered.
"Who told you it's a dead object?"
Chen You snapped his fingers. "Come out and greet the guest."
As soon as he finished speaking, the yuhuang sword stuck in the ground suddenly erupted with a visible wave of golden air.
Golden light gathered above the hilt, quickly outlining a tall and slender phantom.
It was a young man wearing a flashy dark-gold robe, with hair reaching his waist and a sword mark between his brows. He stood with his hands behind his back, his chin held even higher than Augustus's.
Augustus's voice turned exasperated: "Cheating! This is an illegal summon!"
"Bullshit!" Chen You shouted at the sky. "It has independent consciousness and its own name. How does that not count as an independent unit?"
"Which of your rules says non-carbon-based lifeforms can't participate?"
Augustus was left speechless.
The system's underlying logic churned frantically, only to find, to its sorrow, that Chen You's logic had formed a perfect closed loop.
That was indeed a unit capable of independent combat.
Inside the arena, the battle had already broken out.
The Lava Troll let out a deafening roar and strode forward on its thick legs, charging toward the sword spirit like a mountain.
Every step left deep cracks in the ground.
Facing the charging Lava Troll, the sword spirit didn't even dodge.
He simply raised his right hand, as if yawning.
The yuhuang sword on the ground let out a high-pitched dragon roar, suddenly pulled itself out, and flew into the sword spirit's hand.
"Heaven-Breaking Sword Technique, First Form."
The sword spirit murmured softly. His originally nonchalant temperament vanished, replaced by an extreme sharpness that could cut through all things.
"Jinghong."
There were no flashy lights or earth-shattering explosions.
Only an extremely fine golden thread flashed through the air for a fleeting moment.
The Lava Troll's massive body stopped without warning less than three meters from the sword spirit.
It maintained its punching posture, the light in its dark-red stone eye sockets rapidly fading.
"Crack."
A crisp sound of shattering rang out in the silent arena.
Then.
"Boom—!"
The ten-meter-tall Lava Troll split straight down the middle, from its brow to its crotch.
The cut was as smooth as a mirror, and even the lava flowing inside was instantly frozen and annihilated by the extreme sword qi.
An instant kill.
The purest suppression of stats and tier.
The sword spirit performed a flourish, casually stuck the yuhuang sword back into the ground, and turned to raise an eyebrow at Chen You.
The look seemed to say: Boss, was that clean enough? Pay up the boosting fee.
"Third round, we won. The score is now two to one."
Chen You looked up.
"Hurry up, just bring out whatever other trash you have."
Beneath the nebula vortex, a grating sound of friction could be heard.
"Mortal..."
Augustus's voice was no longer cold; it was filled with obvious anger and madness.
"Since you insist on breaking the balance, then prepare to face the true divine punishment!"
The black stone floor of the entire arena began to vibrate violently.
Countless crimson pillars of light shot up from the ground, dyeing the entire space the color of blood.
