64: Chapter 64 Blue Planet Captain
After the Secretary-General's speech, the entire assembly hall fell silent once more, everyone looking at him with curiosity.
The Secretary-General gazed affectionately at Chen Mu once more, slowly beginning to speak: "Since the birth of human civilization, we have been trapped on this blue planet, split into hundreds of nations, fighting endlessly over resources, beliefs, and territories."
"We have never been united! We have never had a leader who could truly bring all of humanity together!"
"Until today! Until he arrived before us, crossing the boundless starry sky, bringing peace and hope!"
He suddenly pointed at Chen Mu: "It is Mr. Chen Mu! With his wisdom, his benevolence, and his broad mind that transcends narrow human prejudices, he has brought our divided planet under the same banner for the first time!"
"It is he who sowed the seeds of unity in this land of constant conflict! It is he who gave us hope in our most desperate hour!"
"Heaven has not abandoned humanity! It has sent the most precious gift before us! This gift is Chen Mu!"
Taking a deep breath, the Secretary-General shouted with all his might: "Therefore, in my capacity as the Secretary-General of the United Nations, I formally propose to the assembly to nominate Mr. Chen Mu as the first leader of the Blue Star, to serve as the Blue Star Planet Chief for all of us!"
"I swear, no one is better suited for this responsibility! No one understands civilization better than him! He is the beacon of our civilization, the only helmsman to lead us out of the fog!"
"I ask all representatives, for the future of humanity, for unity, and for our shared tomorrow, to cast your sacred vote for this historic resolution!"
The entire assembly hall erupted. Many representatives were flushed with excitement by the speech, standing up to applaud until their hands were red.
As for Chen Mu, he was completely dumbfounded.
"Wait, the script wasn't written like this, was it? How am I supposed to be the Ball Chief? Am I not an alien?"
"Giving me a surprise, are you!"
He quickly stood up to decline, waving his hands with an innocent look: "Everyone, this isn't right. I'm not from the Blue Star, so how can I be the Ball Chief of the Blue Star? Isn't this election a bit too casual?"
Before he could finish, the Secretary-General interrupted him excitedly: "That is exactly why you are the most suitable! Precisely because you are an alien, you won't be held hostage by our internal interest groups! You are a visitor from beyond, possessing a God's-eye view! Only you can achieve true impartiality!"
"Mr. Chen Mu, this isn't about power; it's the inescapable trust and entrustment of all humanity! Please, you must not decline!"
"Everyone, please vote!"
Just then, a loud "bang" echoed from the back of the hall! Black Panther stood up like an enraged lion, kicking aside the chair in front of him. With eyes that saw through all hypocrisy and filth, he glared fiercely at the podium, at the Permanent Five, and at Chen Mu.
His eyes were filled with grief, indignation, and disdain. Without saying a single word, he turned and slammed the door as he walked out!
That loud slam was particularly jarring in the noisy hall, but it was quickly drowned out by a new round of even more fanatical applause and cheers.
Everyone tacitly acted as if he didn't exist.
The representatives of the Permanent Five were the first to raise their hands. The green lights of the "yes" votes spread like a prairie fire, quickly taking over the entire electronic screen.
It passed unanimously with 192 votes. This time, there weren't even any abstentions; the thirty-six countries that had previously abstained seemed afraid the new Ball Chief would hold a grudge, so they all voted in favor.
Amidst applause like a tsunami, the Secretary-General announced excitedly: "The proposal passed unanimously! Let us congratulate Mr. Chen Mu on being appointed as the first Blue Star Planet Chief with our warmest applause!"
Feeling the earth-shaking applause and cheers, Chen Mu looked calmly at the representatives of the Permanent Five. He finally understood that this was an open scheme they had set for him.
They wanted to tie the interests of the Blue Star to Chen Mu's interests. This way, to protect his own interests, Chen Mu would have to protect the interests of the Blue Star.
In the long run, there was even a risk of completely assimilating Chen Mu into a person of the Blue Star.
Just like the Yuan Dynasty in his past life. One must know that before the Yuan Dynasty, Mongolia and the Central Plains had always been two separate, hostile countries. But since the Yuan Dynasty, after a series of changes, the Mongolians actually became part of the Dragon Country. Such is the power of culture.
However, he had long anticipated such a possibility and had already arranged for Danzo to be his white glove. Thus, there was no harm in him being the Ball Chief.
Chen Mu stood before the podium, pressing his hands down slightly. Once the noise subsided, he offered a perfectly measured smile.
The entire assembly hall fell silent instantly. Everyone stared at him intently, afraid of missing a single word.
Chen Mu cleared his throat: "To be honest, I'm quite surprised today. Not because of how heavy this honor is, but because I know very well that you didn't choose me because you recognize me so much."
"Rather, it's because you fear our fleet will continue to harm you. So, you figured that instead of being passive targets, you'd rather take the initiative to offer amnesty. You might as well tie me to the ship of the Blue Star to act as your shield."
"If I become one of your own, I'd be too embarrassed to beat myself up, right?"
No one below dared to respond. With their hidden agendas exposed on the spot, many representatives subconsciously lowered their heads, not daring to meet Chen Mu's gaze.
Chen Mu didn't mind and changed the subject: "However, there's an old saying on your Blue Star: 'One does not strike a smiling face.' Since you are so sensible and have humbled yourselves so much, I shall accept your offer."
"From this day forth, I, Chen Mu, have boarded the chariot of the Blue Star."
"Whoosh!" Thunderous applause rang out once again.
Chen Mu gestured for silence and continued: "To celebrate my election as the Ball Chief and to thank you for the surprise today, I have decided to issue my first decree: starting today, I will apply to the Emperor to open first-level interstellar trade right for the Blue Star!"
The whole place instantly erupted. The Dragon Country representative reacted the fastest, quickly raising a hand to ask: "Mr. Ball Chief, what are first-level interstellar trade right? Could you explain it to us in detail?"
Chen Mu smiled slightly and explained: "Our Guga Civilization has traversed the universe for three million years. The civilizations that have surrendered to us number at least eight to ten thousand.
"Later, to facilitate communication, we established 'Civilization Star Trade' to specifically help those races unable to voyage through the universe to conduct interstellar trade."
"Now, your Blue Star is fortunate enough to have received an admission ticket. From now on, interstellar matters will be under my jurisdiction as Ball Chief. As for your own little matters on the ground, you can still handle them yourselves. I have no interest in watching over you every day."
As soon as he said this, the entire hall fell silent, and even the sound of breathing could be heard clearly.
The Saudi representative nervously raised a hand: "Excuse me, what price do we need to pay to join this Civilization Star Trade?"
