309: Chapter 312 Earth is actually a refuge for the previous generation of god-level civilization
The air in the laboratory was as cold as a knife.
That coldness was not just a drop in temperature, but a shiver of the unknown rising from the depths of the spinal cord.
Jiang Chen's fingers hovered over the constantly pulsing data stream, his eyes locked firmly onto the screen.
It was a string of underlying logic known as the "Gaia Code."
It was not some technological blueprint, nor was it an energy formula; it was—a lock.
"This is not a navigation map for alien ruins at all."
Academician Chen Shuyin took off her glasses. Those eyes, usually full of rationality, were now filled with unprecedented terror. "Jiang Chen, look at this gravitational field simulation. Is this anywhere near the natural state of the Solar System?"
She dialed the holographic star map to its highest magnification.
At the edge of the Solar System, inside the Kuiper Belt, which was considered the frontier of the universe, there was actually a dense yet translucent electromagnetic membrane.
This membrane was like a huge, seamless pot, trapping the entire Solar System tightly inside.
"It is filtering."
Academician Chen Shuyin's fingers swiped through the air, bringing up streams of pale data. "It filters out all high-energy pulses attempting to spy on Earth's civilization, and at the same time, it filters out all high-dimensional energy that could lead to the 'ascension' of Earth's civilization."
Jiang Chen fell silent.
He thought of those civilizations that had once wanted to harvest them, those fleets that had inexplicably self-destructed due to "diarrhea" before they even got close to the Solar System.
So, it wasn't that his "Law of Causality" was that strong after all.
It was this wall showing its power?
No, that wasn't right.
"If it's just to guard against those hunters, why suppress the civilization level?"
Jiang Chen turned his head to look at Academician Chen Shuyin, his voice raspy. "A Level 2 civilization, we haven't even touched the threshold of entering the galaxy. Why suppress us?"
"Because as long as we don't advance, we will forever be livestock in a 'farm'."
Academician Chen Shuyin's voice was as soft as a dream.
She pulled up the most famous disaster records in Earth's history:
"The Great Flood, the Ice Age, volcanic eruptions, even the meteor shower that caused the extinction of the dinosaurs…"
"In the past, we thought this was the inevitability of Earth's self-evolution."
"But what if the interval cycles of these disasters correspond exactly to the cycle of human civilization's technological level reaching the 'Level 2 peak'?"
Jiang Chen's heart gave a violent twitch.
Every peak of a civilization would trigger some kind of disaster.
Floods submerged everything, ice sealed the evidence, and meteorites crushed the sparks of development.
This was no evolution.
This was clearly a periodic cleanup!
"This is not a protected area at all."
Jiang Chen walked to the window, looking at the seemingly peaceful starry sky. The sense of superiority brought by his "wealthy" life was crushed to pieces at this moment. "This is a sanctuary for a civilization."
"Who… hid us here?"
Academician Chen Shuyin walked to his side, looking at the entire wall of files. "The files show that this blockade has been running for at least hundreds of millions of years."
"The one that created this shelter was the previous God-level Civilization."
"Before they were destroyed by those 'Harvesters,' they modified the physical constants of the entire star system. They even went as far as disguising this star sector as a 'dead zone,' just to leave this bit of lineage for humanity."
"Jiang Chen, we always thought we created nuclear fusion ourselves."
"But what if these technologies actually existed within this shelter to begin with?"
"If we touch that red line, if our development speed exceeds the expectations of those Keepers…"
"This wall will become our gallows."
Jiang Chen stared fixedly out the window, watching the alien envoys who were going crazy over a few packs of spicy strips and a residency quota.
He suddenly felt like a joke.
Everyone was fighting tooth and nail for this bit of profit.
Yet they didn't know that a guillotine was hanging over their heads, ready to fall at any moment.
"Tell me, what if I fix it, what if I also start harvesting…"
Jiang Chen slowly raised his hand, the faint golden light in his palm pulsing. That was not just a sign of evolution, but the mark of a god. "This system, this so-called alien technology, is it actually all the 'administrator account' from back then?"
"Are you trying to become the new owner of this farm?"
Academician Chen Shuyin looked at him, her expression complex. "If we master everything here, then what is the difference between us and those damned Harvesters?"
"The difference is huge."
Jiang Chen sneered, a flash of near-violent will in his eyes. "They harvest for plunder, for their own immortality."
"And I…"
Jiang Chen looked toward the sky, at the cosmic abyss that had already begun to awaken.
"I am here to overturn this damned cage completely!"
"Since they want to treat me as a pet, they had better be prepared to have their home torn down by this pet!"
"Old Chen, stop spacing out there."
Jiang Chen turned around and grabbed the Law of Causality controller on the table, his eyes cold as a knife.
"Encrypt and upload those materials."
"Since this is a shelter, it must have the rules of a shelter."
"Notify Zhao Gang, unlock all the weapon systems in our 'civilian spaceships' for me!"
"Next."
"We are not playing any commercial competition anymore."
"Since the owner of the farm is coming to clean up, then we will…"
"Above this starry sky, teach him a lesson first!"
Academician Chen Shuyin watched Jiang Chen's crazy appearance, determined not to turn back and to poke a hole in the universe.
Even though she was a calm scientist, her heart was beating wildly at this moment.
She didn't say anything, just walked silently to Jiang Chen's side and gently straightened his slightly crooked tie.
"If you want to be a madman, then let's be mad together."
"Anyway, this universe should have been in chaos long ago."
Jiang Chen smiled.
He looked at the screen that was still flashing with dangerous light, and the black shadow that was infinitely approaching the center of the galaxy.
He felt that his body, enhanced by the divine genes, was crazily craving a real battle.
That craving even overshadowed the fear of the unknown.
He lowered his head and looked at his palm.
Under the brilliant golden light, every cell seemed to have its own consciousness.
That was the end of the old era and the birth of a new god.
If I am truly the successor of this shelter.
If I am the only variable in this chess game.
Then this game of chess…
"I have made up my mind."
Jiang Chen said softly to the void on the screen:
"As long as I have these two fists."
"As long as I still hold this 'broken tool'."
"No matter which god or hunter it is…"
"As long as you enter this door…"
"You have to leave your life here for me!"
He turned and strode toward the core area of the command room.
Behind him.
In that boundless dark starry sky.
A monstrous rage belonging to him, belonging solely to a son of the Dragon Kingdom, was, along with the light of the spaceship cutting through the sky, crazily toward that high-dimensional abyss—
Burning away!
