95: Chapter 95 Is the US stirring up trouble again? This time it's a biological virus?
The world's eyes were once again forced to focus on the other side of the ocean.
But this time, it wasn't because of some bullshit chip sanctions, nor was it because of the joke about an aircraft carrier being paralyzed by electricity.
It was because of death.
Naked, ongoing death.
On the TV news, the Yanks TV station that usually only knew how to brag had shaky footage.
The camera was pointed at a public hospital in New York.
The emergency room doors had long since been burst open. Countless patients with blue-purple faces and breathing difficulties lay in the hallways, in the parking lot, and even on the streets. They opened their mouths wide like a school of fish out of water, desperately trying to inhale even a sliver of oxygen, but all that came from their lungs was the wheezing sound of a bellows.
Wails, cries, and the shrill sirens of ambulances wove together into a symphony of hell.
The scene cut away.
The White House press briefing room.
The spokesperson, Peter, who just days ago was clamoring to blockade Dragon Country's technology, was now wearing a full biohazard suit, wrapped up like a dumpling.
Through the thick mask, his voice sounded muffled, yet it still couldn't hide that arrogance and shamelessness carved into his bones:
"This is a premeditated attack!"
"We have reason to suspect that this lethal virus, codenamed 'X-99', originated from some unregulated underground laboratory in Dragon Country!"
"This is retaliation against the free world! It's a despicable counterattack against our economic sanctions!"
Peter waved his fists, trying to use anger to mask his panic:
"We demand that Dragon Country immediately open all laboratories for inspection! And take full responsibility for this global public health crisis! Otherwise, we reserve the right to use nuclear weapons in self-defense!"
"Snap!"
Jiang Chen turned off the TV.
He tossed the remote onto the coffee table, where it made a sharp sound.
"I've seen shameless people, but I've never seen anyone this shameless."
Jiang Chen leaned back on the sofa, his eyes as cold as eternal ice. "They messed up their own lab experiment, and instead of thinking about how to save people, their first reaction is to shift the blame?"
"They just never stop bullying honest people."
Beside him, Zhao Gang's expression was grim.
As a soldier, he despised such low-handed tactics.
"Boss, the intelligence has been confirmed."
Zhao Gang looked at the tactical tablet in his hand, his tone grave. "The origin of the virus outbreak is a biochemical base near the Yanks' Fort Detrick. It's said that a centrifuge malfunction caused an aerosol leak, which was then blown by the wind into the nearby residential area."
"This is their so-called 'accident'."
"An accident?"
Jiang Chen scoffed. "I think it was a long-planned biochemical weapon experiment that blew up in their own faces."
This virus had an extremely short incubation period, an extremely high mortality rate, and was highly targeted.
No matter how you look at it, it doesn't seem like something that could evolve in Nature.
Just then.
A phone ringtone, urgent enough to cause panic, broke the silence in the villa.
Jiang Chen glanced at the caller ID.
It was Zhong Guodong.
This old dean, who wouldn't even change his expression if Mount Tai collapsed before him, was definitely not calling to have tea with him.
"Hello, Old Zhong."
Jiang Chen picked up the phone, his voice steady.
"Jiang Chen... something has happened."
On the other end, Zhong Guodong's voice was very hoarse. The background noise was filled with chaotic footsteps and the beeping of medical alarms; he was clearly on the front lines.
"Just now, the Tianhai City customs intercepted a batch of cold-chain seafood from the Yanks."
"The test results... were positive."
"And, the three customs officers responsible for the inspection have already developed symptoms of acute respiratory failure half an hour after touching the goods, and are now being treated in the ICU!"
Jiang Chen's heart sank abruptly.
It had arrived, just as expected.
In this era of globalization, viruses spread faster than rumors. The Yanks are trying to drag the whole world down with them!
"How is the situation? Can it be contained?" Jiang Chen asked.
"It's difficult."
Zhong Guodong sighed, his tone filled with a deep sense of powerlessness. "We have already locked down the port immediately, but this virus is too bizarre."
"Its RNA sequence is like it's been encrypted, mutating constantly. Our existing antiviral drugs, whether it's Remdesivir or interferon, are like feeding it when injected; not only can it not be killed, but it actually makes it multiply faster!"
"And..."
Zhong Guodong paused, his voice trembling slightly:
"And it attacks the human immune system, causing a cytokine storm. Those three workers were strong, healthy young men, and now their lungs have already turned completely white."
"At this rate, if we can't find a cure, they won't last the night."
"Jiang Chen, I know you have unconventional methods. Do you... have a way?"
This was the old dean's last hope.
Conventional medical treatments had already failed, and even Dragon Country's top expert teams were helpless.
Facing this kind of dimensional reduction strike on a genetic level, Earth's medicine seemed so pale and powerless.
Jiang Chen was silent for two seconds.
He turned his head to look out the window.
Although it was late at night, the streets of Tianhai City were still bustling with traffic. People were still enjoying this rare peace and prosperity, completely unaware that a catastrophic disaster was quietly approaching.
If this virus spreads...
The consequences are unimaginable.
"Old Zhong, do you trust me?"
Jiang Chen suddenly spoke, his voice not loud, but carrying the power of a stabilizing force.
"Of course I trust you!"
Zhong Guodong replied without hesitation. "You can even hand-craft a Lithography Machine and fish up an aircraft carrier; what is there in this world that you can't do?"
"That's good."
Jiang Chen stood up, straightened his collar, a flash of ruthlessness in his eyes.
Since the Yanks don't play fair and want to play dirty.
Then don't blame me for using cheats too.
When it comes to biochemical weapons, your little bit of technology doesn't even qualify as a younger brother compared to those lunatics in the Wasteland who fight mutant beasts for food every day!
"Send me the detailed data on those three patients."
Jiang Chen took his phone and strode toward the underground laboratory that connected the two worlds, his tone resolute:
"Tell the doctors, even if they have to use ventilators to force air into them, they must keep them alive for me!"
"Give me half an hour."
"No matter what kind of monster that virus is, as long as it's a carbon-based organism, I have a way to cure it!"
On the other end of the line, Zhong Guodong's voice was distorted with excitement:
"Good! I'll wait for you!"
"Jiang Chen, this time... everything depends on you!"
He hung up the phone.
Jiang Chen stood in front of the laboratory safe and took a deep breath.
He didn't hesitate at all and clicked directly on that familiar avatar—
The Wasteland Empress who had just conquered a country and was sitting on the ruins counting her spoils.
"Wanqiu."
Jiang Chen's fingers tapped rapidly on the screen, every word carrying killing intent:
"Stop counting money, get to work!"
"Someone is trying to poison us and destroy my home."
"Help me ask that old man Zero, is there anything on the Wasteland... specifically for killing environmental mutant viruses, preferably something that kills on contact, leaving not even a trace of residue, a powerful insecticide?"
"The stronger, the better! Don't worry about side effects! As long as it doesn't poison people to death, it's fine!"
On the other side of the screen.
Jiang Wanqiu paused for a moment, then in those ruby-like eyes, a raging fire instantly ignited.
Dare to poison the Father God?
This is even more serious than touching her throne!
She suddenly pulled out the war blade stuck in the ground and replied murderously:
"Rest assured, Father God!"
"What kind of bullshit virus? In Dawn City, that's something even mutant cockroaches are too lazy to eat!"
"Give me three minutes!"
"I'll go and grab all of that old geezer Zero's hidden treasures for you!"
