74: Chapter 74 The First Global Summit: The Dragon Kingdom Representative Smiles Without Saying a Word
Geneva, United Nations Palace of Nations.
Inside the massive circular conference hall, the air felt as if all oxygen had been drained, suffocatingly oppressive. Hundreds of cameras were set up in every corner, their red recording lights like scarlet eyes, staring fixedly at the center of the venue.
"Bang!"
A loud crash shook even the decorative wooden gavel, making it jump.
Representative Smith's face was flushed red, the veins on his neck bulging like earthworms. He brandished the investigation report regarding the "East Sea Yacht Incident" in his hand, spraying spit all over the face of the representative from John Bull in the front row.
"This is an act of war! This is naked technological hegemony!"
Representative Smith's voice echoed throughout the hall via the microphone, carrying a trembling tone of exasperation:
"A fishing rod? Ha! The Chinese actually told the whole world that it was a leaky fishing rod? Do you take the five permanent members of the United Nations for three-year-olds?"
"That is an extremely dangerous, extremely inhumane gravitational wave weapon! It can paralyze a 100,000-ton nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in an instant! This is not just a provocation against the Eagle, but a threat to the safety of all mankind!"
He turned abruptly, pointing his trembling finger at the China delegation's seats opposite him:
"I demand that China immediately hand over the dangerous individual named Jiang Chen! Hand over all technical data for that weapon! And accept a no-dead-angle inspection by the International Atomic Energy Agency!"
The whole hall was in an uproar.
Representatives from the Gallic Chicken, Hans Cat, and Foot Basin Chicken… whispered to one another, their eyes filled with panic and suspicion.
That cover photo from Time magazine was truly shocking. If China had really mastered this kind of black technology, then the current world order would likely have to be reshuffled.
Everyone's gaze was focused on the main seat of the China delegation.
Sitting there was the "Iron Mouth" of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China — China Representative.
However, it was beyond everyone's expectations.
Facing such aggressive accusations from Representative Smith, China Representative did not slam the table, did not argue, and did not even frown.
He just sat there quietly.
Leaning back against the chair, his posture was relaxed, one could even say… somewhat lazy.
He was twirling an ordinary fountain pen in his hand, the black barrel flipping flexibly between his slender fingertips, drawing perfect circles. A faint smile hung on his face; it was not a smile of anger or disdain, but rather one of—
the kind benevolence of watching a monkey show.
"Mr. China Representative! Please answer!"
Representative Smith was enraged by this disregard; he felt like he had punched a pile of cotton. "Is China remaining silent on this an admission of guilt?"
The fountain pen in China Representative's hand stopped with a "snap."
He leisurely adjusted the microphone and looked at Representative Smith with clear eyes:
"Representative Smith, are you finished?"
"If you are finished, could you please sit down? Your blood pressure looks a bit high. If you faint here at the United Nations and blame it on our China's aura being too strong, we won't be able to afford the compensation."
"Pfft."
A representative from some country couldn't hold it in and laughed out loud.
Representative Smith's face turned the color of a pig's liver: "You—!"
"Regarding the East Sea incident."
China Representative restrained his smile, his tone as flat as if he were reading an instruction manual. "Our side has already explained it very clearly. It was a technical malfunction of civilian fishing gear, and we have already compensated your side with 200 million USD in 'emotional distress damages.' The transaction is settled, fair and square."
"As for the 'gravitational weapon' you mentioned…"
China Representative spread his hands, looking helpless:
"Have you ever seen anyone take a weapon fishing? We Chinese are peace-loving. Even if we had that technology, it would be used to part the Earth's hair in the middle, so why would we use it to deal with a… um, slightly leaky old ship?"
"You call that an old ship? That is a Ford-class!" Representative Smith roared.
"In our eyes, anything that can't move is an old ship."
China Representative replied calmly, then resumed twirling his pen, adopting an attitude of "I'll just watch you show off quietly."
This attitude made the atmosphere in the entire venue extremely strange.
In the past, China Representatives, when faced with such accusations, would often lodge solemn protests and argue on the basis of reason.
But today, they were too composed.
So composed that it made people's skin crawl.
It was like a gambler holding a pair of jokers, watching a pauper on the opposite side go all-in hysterically.
The representative from the Foot Basin Chicken wiped his sweat and whispered to the person next to him: "Something is wrong… the Chinese are too calm this time. Do they really have some kind of trump card?"
"Definitely!" The representative from the Hans Cat looked solemn. "Look at that China Representative, he's smiling so much that I want to go home and check my own safe."
Standing on the podium, Representative Smith looked at China Representative's unyielding face, his heart pounding wildly.
He knew that intimidation had failed.
Public opinion pressure had also failed.
The Chinese simply didn't buy this act anymore. They must be holding some trump card capable of subverting the rules, which was why they dared to mock the Eagle's authority so unscrupulously.
"Fine! Very fine!"
Representative Smith took a deep breath, a flash of desperate madness flickering in his eyes.
Since you are unjust, don't blame me for being unrighteous.
Since military threats cannot scare you, then we will use our final and most lethal weapon—technology blockade!
"Since China has no remorse and even shows contempt for international conventions!"
Representative Smith abruptly opened the folder in front of him and pulled out a red document.
In that instant, the temperature of the entire venue seemed to drop several degrees.
Everyone recognized that red header—it was the highest-level sanctions order from the Eagle's Department of Commerce.
"In order to maintain world peace and stability, and to prevent the proliferation of dangerous technology!"
Representative Smith held the document high, his voice exploding in the deathly silent hall like the gavel of judgment:
"I, representing the United States of the Eagle, officially announce!"
"Effective immediately, we will unite with sixteen Western nations to implement the most severe sanctions in history against China—"
"Chip embargo!"
"Any chips, Lithography Machine, and semiconductor raw materials containing Eagle technology are prohibited from being exported to China!"
"Any enterprise that manufactures for China will be kicked out of the USD settlement system!"
"We will cut off China's 'industrial brain'!"
"We will turn your mobile phones into bricks! Make your missiles blind! And make the technology you are so proud of regress back to the Stone Age!"
After finishing, Representative Smith slammed the document onto the table, staring at China Representative with sinister eyes, attempting to see even a hint of panic on that face.
However.
He was disappointed.
China Representative didn't even stop his pen.
He only looked up slightly, his eyes revealing a kind of… one could even say "pitying" emotion.
It was like looking at a primitive man showing off his stone axe, shouting at a civilization that had already mastered nuclear fusion.
"Chips?"
China Representative chuckled, the sound not loud, yet it clearly spread throughout the entire hall:
"Representative Smith, are you sure… that this is your final trump card?"
