237: Chapter 237 The Difficult Tribal Integration Work

While Zhao Fusu was manufacturing medicine, Modun sent out a large number of people to incite the Xiongnu Tribes within the territory of the Right Worthy King to resist the Qin Army.

The Yuwen Tribe was a medium-sized tribe within the Right Worthy King's territory, possessing ten thousand cavalry and a population of fifty thousand.

For this attack on the Qinglan Grassland, the White Wolf King had conscripted three thousand of their cavalry.

During the attack on Tian Ju, the cavalry from the Yuwen Tribe suffered heavy casualties under the bombardment of the mortars.

Those who were lucky enough to survive felt immense fear whenever they recalled the scene of the mortars exploding.

After they became captives, Tian Ju and Zhao Gang did not make things difficult for them; instead, they gave them decent treatment.

Specifically, after Zhao Gang learned they were from the Yuwen Tribe, he allowed them to return to the Yuwen Tribe to persuade them to join Great Qin.

As long as the Yuwen Tribe was willing to join Great Qin, they could exchange wool for food.

Yuwen Dali was a Thousand-Rider Commander of the Yuwen Tribe.

The other two Thousand-Rider Commanders were killed on the spot by mortars; while he was fleeing, his warhorse was hit by a shot from a revolver, causing him to fall and be captured.

After Yuwen Dali was captured, he felt both unwilling and fearful.

If the Qin people were to fight him Scimitar to Scimitar, he would not fear them.

But the Qin people used those terrifying explosive weapons and weapons that made a startlingly loud noise with just the pull of a finger; they didn't even see what was flying toward them, yet once hit, they would lose the strength to resist.

The coordination of these two terrifying weapons caused the warriors under his command to suffer heavy losses before they could even charge into the Qin ranks.

"If your Yuwen Tribe is unwilling to join our Great Qin, you can either leave the Right Worthy King's territory on your own, or we will use mortars and revolvers to drive you out!"

Zhao Gang's voice said coldly.

After Tian Ju and Lu Jia fell ill, Zhao Gang had to take responsibility not only for political work but also for military matters and the integration of the Xiongnu Tribes.

The Yuwen Tribe held significant influence within the Right Worthy King's territory.

After the White Wolf King was expelled from the Right Worthy King's territory, the Yuwen Tribe did not leave with him.

Some other tribes left, but most did not.

They were unwilling to give up the grazing lands upon which the tribes depended for survival.

To their surprise, the Qin Army did not come to their pastures to evict them; instead, they sent riders to tell them that if they joined Great Qin, they could exchange wool for food.

This caused a stir among many tribes, with some believing it and others questioning it.

However, those who questioned it were still in the majority.

Being able to exchange wool for food was too mind-blowing!

The high-ranking members of the Yuwen Tribe and other tribes, large and small, became hesitant.

Anyone who could reach a high-ranking position was bound to be shrewd.

Just as an angler baits the water before fishing.

They feared this was a trap by the Qin people; once the Qin people completely defeated the Xiongnu Royal Court, they might go back on their word and turn against them.

The daughter of the Tuan Tribe's leader was a woman of His Majesty the Premier of Great Qin; the Qinglan Tribe, Liefeng Tribe, Chiyanju Tribe, Shuangzong Tribe, and Lingyu Tribe had all held blood-swearing ceremonies with Great Qin.

In contrast, they had no Jimi relationship with Great Qin, and thus no guarantee of safety.

The more the high-ranking members of the Yuwen Tribe discussed it, the more they believed it was a trap.

They would have been more willing to believe exchanging gold for food.

But they simply could not believe that wool could be exchanged for food.

If this wasn't a trap, what was it!

The person sent by Modun to incite the Yuwen Tribe to resist the Qin Army took the opportunity to fan the flames.

"Chiefs, I wonder if you have heard the saying: 'Those who are not of our kin are sure to have a different heart'!"

"The Qin people are showing us goodwill now only because they want to defeat the Royal Court and the Chanyu Court."

He said with great concern: "Once the Qin people have defeated the Royal Court and the Chanyu Court, they will turn their hands against us!"

"The ultimate goal of the Qin people is still to seize the pastures we depend on for survival."

"We should unite and resist the invasion of the Qin people together!"

His words gained the approval of the people of the Yuwen Tribe.

They began to unite hundreds of tribes, large and small, to resist the invasion of the Qin Army.

Seeing that the tribes within the Right Worthy King's territory could not be integrated, Zhao Gang's brow furrowed as he pondered a counterstrategy.

He would risk his life to complete the task entrusted to him by His Majesty the Head of State.

Unless absolutely necessary, he did not want to completely set himself in opposition to these tribes.

According to His Majesty the Head of State's intentions, he wanted these tribes to provide a large amount of wool to manufacture more Wool Sweaters.

Zhao Gang decided to release the captives from the Yuwen Tribe to ease the relationship with them.

He hoped these captives could persuade the high-ranking members of the Yuwen Tribe.

If the Yuwen Tribe could be persuaded to join Great Qin, it would inevitably lead the many Xiongnu Tribes subservient to them to join as well.

Then the tribes within the Right Worthy King's territory could be integrated together.

He would then be able to complete the task entrusted to him by His Majesty the Head of State.

If integration was truly impossible, then they could only be driven away!

Zhao Gang certainly wouldn't indulge them.

He believed His Majesty the Head of State had already been good enough to these Xiongnu people.

If they continued to be ungrateful, then he really wouldn't be polite anymore!

He, Zhao Gang, was not someone with a good temper!

Hearing the words translated by Cao Jiacheng, Yuwen Dali's face turned pale.

The power of the mortars and revolvers was too great; if Zhao Gang used them against his tribe, his people would surely suffer massive casualties.

"Think about it carefully."

"Whether to fight or to make peace, decide for yourselves!"

"I've said all I have to say!"

After Zhao Gang finished speaking, he turned and left.

Seeing himself walking out of the Qinglan Grassland unharmed, Yuwen Dali still found it hard to believe that the Qin people really hadn't made things difficult for him.

After all, his own people were even harsher when dealing with each other.

After a battle between tribes ended, the losing side became the slaves of the winners, often beaten with sticks and whipped.

Slaves were merely playthings for the tribal nobles.

If they were abused to death, they were simply dragged out to feed the wolves.

After being captured by the Qin people, Yuwen Dali never expected to see tomorrow's sun alive.

But after his capture, the Qin people did not mistreat him much; instead, they let him eat and drink well, and there was even a honeycomb coal heating stove to keep him warm at night.

It was now mid-winter, and this honeycomb coal heating stove was countless times better than burning wood.

Burning wood produced a lot of smoke and didn't last long.

This honeycomb coal not only burned for a long time but also produced very little smoke.

When Yuwen Dali learned that wool could also be exchanged for honeycomb coal, his face was a picture of disbelief.

Could the Qin people really be so kind as to give them such benefits?
