584: Chapter 584 The Governor of Amri's Response

Dinesh Thakur, the Governor of Amritsar City, dressed in the official robes of a Mauryan Empire governor, walked with slightly hurried steps and climbed up to the arched city wall in person.

He looked into the distance at the group of refugees and routed soldiers surging toward them like a torrential tide.

They were ragged and tattered, their eyes filled with panic and fear, like a frightened herd of beasts, rushing desperately toward the gates of Amritsar City.

As they drew closer to the city gate, their speed increased.

Dinesh Thakur, the Governor of Amritsar City, knew well that these refugees and routed soldiers were completely different from the orderly caravans that traveled through daily; they were volatile variables full of uncertainty.

Once they were allowed into the city, it would be like opening Pandora's Magic Box, highly likely to trigger a series of serious public security issues, causing a great impact on the stability and peace of Amritsar City.

Therefore, the moment the gatekeepers discovered these uninvited guests, the heavy city gates had already been tightly shut, blocking out the unrest and chaos.

"I have a bad feeling about this!"

Dinesh Thakur's brows furrowed tightly, those two thick eyebrows resembling two mountains about to collide, his eyes revealing deep worry and vigilance.

He turned his head slightly and spoke to his aide, Pramod Joshi, who stood beside him with an equally grave expression, in an unquestionable tone: "We must find out immediately where these people have come from; not a moment can be delayed!"

"Yes, Governor."

Pramod Joshi lowered his head respectfully, replied with a firm tone, and immediately turned to hurry off to arrange the matter.

Meanwhile, Dinesh Thakur turned around quickly and shouted orders to the guards below the city wall: "Strengthen the guard! No one is allowed to let their guard down!"

His voice echoed over the city wall, filled with authority and a sense of urgency.

"Yes, Governor!"

Upon hearing the order, the soldiers acted as if facing a great enemy, scrambling up the city wall at the fastest speed possible.

They held their weapons, the sharp blades glinting coldly in the sunlight, their eyes watching every movement outside the city with vigilance.

The archers focused intently as they drew their bowstrings, arrows nocked and aimed directly at the chaotic crowd outside the city, ready to respond to any potential danger at any moment; with a single command, sharp arrows would rain down upon the enemy.

The entire Amritsar City instantly entered a state of high alert, and the air was filled with a tense atmosphere that was ready to snap at any moment.

With a grave expression, Pramod Joshi called over the garrison commander, Ravi Kumar, and ordered: "Ravi Kumar, the Governor has given an order. You are to immediately arrange a troop to leave the city and make sure to find out exactly where these refugees and routed soldiers have come from, and what the enemy's movements are. Remember, you must be careful and cautious; do not be the least bit negligent."

Ravi Kumar stood tall, placed his right hand over his chest, bowed solemnly in salute, and responded loudly: "Yes, sir! I will certainly not fail the task."

Subsequently, Ravi Kumar quickly selected a squad of elite soldiers, opened one side of the city gate, and led them out of the city with caution.

The city gate was quickly closed behind them to prevent the refugees and routed soldiers from seizing the opportunity to surge into the city.

Ravi Kumar led the soldiers toward the refugees and routed soldiers, raising his voice to shout: "Everyone, do not panic! We are the garrison of Amritsar City, here to understand your situation. Where have you all come from? Have you encountered a powerful enemy?"
