17: Chapter 17 The Peerless Beauty Liu Ruyan

Avoiding the prying eyes of the crowd, Captain Liu Ruyan scurried back to her small vehicle.

The surrounding survivors all had strange looks in their eyes, whispering to themselves: She was actually called out and came out unscathed. Could it be that Mr. Zhou is truly soft-hearted and not fond of wanton killing?

She locked the car door tight and hurriedly wiped her body with water, washing away the thick dust on her face before tearing off the rags she used to bind her chest.

Once cleaned, her delicate features were fully revealed, and her previously gaunt figure was exposed, making her look like a completely different person.

After tidying up, Captain Liu Ruyan steadied her nerves, pushed open the car door, and prepared to find Zhou Che.

This appearance stunned everyone around her on the spot!

The passing survivors' eyes almost popped out, staring straight at her, unable to look away for even a second.

They had been with Captain Liu Ruyan for so long and had never realized that this woman could be so breathtakingly beautiful!

With delicate, pleasing features, lively eyes, and an eye-catching figure, it would be no exaggeration to call her a celestial beauty.

Some people inwardly exclaimed in satisfaction; the internet was right after all, Emperor Ruyan may have lost and been poor, but she was never ugly!

Captain Liu Ruyan felt slightly awkward and kept her head bowed.

This was the first time she had shown her true appearance in the apocalypse.

She knew well that she was striking in appearance and understood how dangerous a beautiful woman was in the end times, so she had always deliberately disguised herself—wearing tattered clothes and hiding her figure—just to avoid trouble.

If she hadn't been thinking about submitting to Zhou Che, she wouldn't have dared to show her true face, even if given a hundred times the courage.

Just as Captain Liu Ruyan walked into the middle of The Convoy, the men around who had been pent up for so long fixed their gazes on her, each one restless and unable to contain themselves.

A burly man immediately stepped out from the crowd. Others called him Wang Laowu, a guy with some brute strength among the ordinary survivors who could hold his own.

He stepped forward, blocking Captain Liu Ruyan's path, his lecherous eyes narrowed into slits as he looked her up and down, his tone greasy and frivolous.

"Little Sister Ruyan, looking at you like this, you must be starving, right? I have dry rations and clean water in my car. Come and sit in my car with your brother; I'll fix you a private meal. I guarantee you'll be comfortable. How about it?"

The few lackeys following behind him immediately whistled lewdly, laughing and jeering, their covetousness undisguised.

Captain Liu Ruyan's heart tightened, but she suppressed her panic and met Wang Laowu's gaze head-on.

She understood that once her disguise was off, endless trouble would follow. If she couldn't cling to Zhou Che's thigh after dropping her disguise this time, life in The Convoy would be unbearable.

She had seen what happened to women with a bit of beauty; they either became playthings for the masses, passed between many men, or were monopolized by survivors with a bit of power—and those were considered the lucky ones.

She had even seen someone let his own wife sell herself while he stood guard outside just to collect a loaf of bread.

Right now, she could only use Zhou Che's reputation as a tiger skin to bluff this bunch of scum!

Captain Liu Ruyan looked up and said coldly: "Mr. Zhou called for me. Do you have a problem with that?"

The moment the three words "Mr. Zhou" landed, Wang Laowu, who had just been arrogant and domineering, turned pale as a sheet, his legs trembling uncontrollably.

He knew full well of the ruthless methods used by Zhou Che and Lin Wan; they were transcendent powerhouses who could crush him like an ant with a casual gesture. He wouldn't dare offend them, even if he had a hundred guts!

Wang Laowu's expression changed instantly; he nodded and bowed, fawning over her:

"Oh, Sister Ruyan! Why didn't you say so earlier! I just saw you were short of food and drink and wanted to offer you some supplies. I truly had no other intentions. Please don't take it to heart!"

Captain Liu Ruyan knew clearly that Zhou Che hadn't said a single word to her; it was all a lie she made up to bluff people.

It seemed she had successfully bluffed Wang Laowu.

Still, she kept up her act and said coldly: "Put the things in my car, and you can get lost now."

Wang Laowu agreed repeatedly and scurried away with his lackeys.

The people around who previously had lecherous looks now completely changed their expressions. When they looked at Captain Liu Ruyan again, there was no trace of disrespect, only fawning and flattery, terrified of offending someone close to Mr. Zhou.

Captain Liu Ruyan clenched her palms; she was actually terrified inside, not knowing if she could survive the night, but she kept her composure on the surface, showing no sign of fear.

Captain Liu Ruyan gripped her hem, her heart pounding, and walked quickly to the outside of Zhou Che's car, raising her hand to knock gently.

The door slid open instantly. Lin Wan stood at the entrance, nodding at her with a gentle gaze, signaling her to get in.

Captain Liu Ruyan lowered her head and squeezed into the cabin. As soon as she stood still, Zhou Che looked up and was stunned on the spot, his face full of shock.

Just moments ago, he had thought this girl was disheveled and plain, like an inconspicuous ugly duckling.

In such a short time, she had transformed into a charming and moving white swan!

Her skin was fair, her features exquisite, and her figure was full and eye-catching, with soft, jade-like curves that made it impossible for Zhou Che to look away.

His gaze was direct and eager, the smile at the corners of his mouth impossible to suppress, looking completely infatuated and ready to drool.

Lin Wan watched this scene, her heart blooming with joy, knowing she had chosen the right person this time.

She was the one who had brought Captain Liu Ruyan up, so they would naturally be allies from now on. Even if other women came along later, she wouldn't be pushed out.

Lin Wan reached out and nudged Zhou Che gently, smiling as she spoke: "Mr. Zhou, take a look. Is Captain Liu Ruyan qualified to be your assistant?"

Zhou Che finally came to his senses, forcibly suppressing the infatuation on his face, deliberately putting on the air of a powerhouse, though he couldn't hide the upward curve of his lips. He said in a rough voice: "Hmm, barely acceptable."

Captain Liu Ruyan stood to the side, completely dumbfounded, standing there at a loss, unable to process what had happened for a long while.

Before coming, she had been full of fear, thinking she would be punished at best or lose her life at worst.

She never expected to step directly into the core of The Convoy and become Zhou Che's assistant. Although she was a step below Lin Wan, she had earned a place for herself, finally leaping onto a branch to become a phoenix!

This sudden, huge surprise left her brain spinning, full of disbelief; happiness had come too suddenly.

Captain Liu Ruyan hadn't even recovered from the sudden surprise when she turned around, dazed, and ran back to her own broken little car.

She didn't have many valuable belongings in the apocalypse—just a few tattered clothes and half a piece of dry compressed biscuit—so she could pack up with a casual toss.

Just as she squatted down to rummage through her things, Wang Laowu came rushing over, carrying a full bag of food.

The moment he saw Captain Liu Ruyan packing, Wang Laowu understood instantly: she had been completely favored by Zhou Che and was moving into his car!

He immediately bent his waist to the extreme, his face full of fawning smiles, and rushed forward, reaching out to take the work from Captain Liu Ruyan's hands.

"Oh, Sister Ruyan! How could such menial work be fit for you! Let me pack it; you just stand on the side and rest!"

Wang Laowu packed the items with nimble hands, compliments spilling from his mouth, fawning over her endlessly.

"Our Sister Ruyan is truly blessed, rising to the top in one step. From now on, you're a big shot in The Convoy, following Mr. Zhou!"

The passing survivors all crowded around to curry favor, their praises drilling into Captain Liu Ruyan's ears.

Listening to these compliments, Captain Liu Ruyan felt both panicked and floating; without having to do much herself, everything was packed up neatly.

Wang Laowu carried the parcel like a lackey, nodding and bowing all the way to escort Captain Liu Ruyan to Zhou Che's car.

Amidst this chorus of flattery and fawning, Captain Liu Ruyan officially stepped into the core of The Convoy and successfully joined Zhou Che's team.
