40: Chapter 40 Luo Xi Agreed

Upon hearing this, Luo Xi slowly pushed open the car door, jumped out with a straight posture, and then bowed deeply to Zhou Che.

This bow was to thank Zhou Che for taking care of Ruan Xiaoxiao while she was unconscious, and for allowing Ruan Xiaoxiao to awaken her Transcendent Sequence, giving her younger sister a chance at survival.

Straightening up, Luo Xi spoke in a cold yet incomparably firm tone:

"I accept all the promises she made on my behalf. From this day forward, I, Luo Xi, am willing to pledge my loyalty to Mr. Zhou, with absolutely no ulterior motives."

Upon hearing this, Zhou Che immediately beamed with joy, and the weight that had been hanging on his heart finally lifted.

He had previously worried that Luo Xi might regret her promise upon waking, but now, with an additional top-tier combatant at Sequence 2, The Convoy's strength had taken a step up, like a tiger gaining wings!

Not long after, news came from the camp that Shen Fei and Wang Laowu had also woken up one after another.

Both of them only suffered external injuries, with no fundamental damage, having merely been stunned by the anomaly's power.

If Zhou Che hadn't arrived in time, they would have been devoured by that anomaly.

Coupled with Ruan Xiaoxiao's timely treatment, they were no longer in any serious danger after waking up.

The two were dazed after waking, remembering only that they had been entangled by the anomaly and were on the verge of being devoured.

They had lost consciousness afterward and had no idea what had happened while they were out.

When they returned to the camp supporting each other, they were immediately surrounded by the discussions in the camp.

News of the Mechanical City's arrival and the giant steel pillar crushing the anomaly flooded into their ears.

After hearing this, Shen Fei and Wang Laowu stood frozen in place, their faces full of shock, completely stunned.

They knew the strength of that slime anomaly too well; even with the two of them working together,

they couldn't even break through its defense, having absolutely no power to fight back, appearing incredibly fragile before the anomaly.

Yet that Mechanical City had just casually dropped a giant steel pillar and crushed that terrifying anomaly into dust?

This kind of strength was terrifying to the extreme, simply beyond their imagination!

The two looked at each other, seeing deep awe in each other's eyes, as well as a firm resolve to follow Zhou Che.

They believed that by following Mr. Zhou, they would also have the chance to become a force like that in the future.

Zhou Che stood in the center of the camp, his gaze falling upon Shen Fei and Wang Laowu.

The two had just woken from their coma, their faces still as pale as paper.

Their bodies were covered in bruises from being swallowed by the anomaly, and they were swaying slightly, on the verge of collapsing even while standing.

Yet just a moment ago at the service area supermarket entrance, knowing full well that the slime anomaly was outrageously powerful, and knowing that rushing up was just seeking death,

these two, in order to protect the more than twenty ordinary survivors inside, did not retreat in the slightest, clenching their fists as they charged forward.

Although they lacked the ability and failed to stop the anomaly at all, instead getting themselves knocked unconscious and nearly losing their lives,

whether they could win was one thing, but whether they dared to charge in was another!

In the apocalypse, Zhou Che needed such talent the most—people who dared to fight and struggle, who dared to rush forward in any situation, so that he could hide in the back and be a bit safer.

Zhou Che was clear about rewards and punishments; he was never stingy with those under his command who were willing to risk their lives for him.

He stepped forward half a pace, his voice not loud, but clearly reaching the ears of the two, his tone crisp and decisive:

"Shen Fei, Wang Laowu, I saw everything you did just now."

"Knowing you were no match but still daring to rush up to protect the people of The Convoy shows you have guts."

"I am crediting you each with a merit and will give you an extra nomination spot each. Choose a trusted survivor, and I can help them awaken directly as a Transcendent."

As soon as these words were spoken, Shen Fei and Wang Laowu were taken by surprise, their eyes widening, their faces full of disbelief.

The reason they had rushed up earlier was purely because they had no choice; the supermarket was full of people from The Convoy, and they couldn't just watch them get devoured by the anomaly.

Furthermore, they knew clearly in their hearts that they hadn't helped at all by going up; instead, they had been instantly defeated by the anomaly and had to be saved by Zhou Che. To put it bluntly, they had just been a hindrance.

Even with that, they could still get a merit and receive a nomination spot for a Transcendent?

One had to know that becoming a Transcendent in the apocalypse was the greatest possible fortune, an opportunity that countless ordinary people didn't even dare to dream of!

Previously, when Zhou Che promoted Transcendent in batches, it had already dropped everyone's jaws.

Now, to actually be able to get an exclusive nomination spot because of this incident was simply a pie falling from the sky!

The two were trembling all over with excitement, their lips quivering, unable to utter a complete sentence for a long time.

The next second, with two "thuds," they both knelt on one knee before Zhou Che simultaneously, their tones filled with sincerity, wishing they could rip their hearts out to show their loyalty.

"Thank you, Mr. Zhou! Your subordinates will surely pledge our lives to your service. From now on, even if it means climbing a mountain of blades or descending into a sea of fire, we will have no complaints!"

"Mr. Zhou's great kindness is something your subordinates will never forget. We will follow you for the rest of our lives, without hesitation!"

Zhou Che waved his hand, his tone plain, without any hesitation:

"Decide among yourselves who to give the spots to."

After saying this, Zhou Che turned and returned to his modified RV, leaving behind Shen Fei and Wang Laowu, who were excited beyond measure.

Shen Fei and Wang Laowu knew clearly that having one more Transcendent in their team would increase their status in Mr. Zhou's eyes by one point.

Before everyone could recover from this shock, Captain Liu Ruyan walked quickly to the front of the crowd, raised her voice, and commanded crisply:

"Rest time is over! Everyone get on the vehicles immediately, check supplies and vehicles. The Convoy departs immediately to continue to Mountain City! The Convoy will not wait for anyone who falls behind or dawdles!"

Once the order was given, no one dared to delay.

Having experienced the terrifying scene at the service area, everyone knew what the outcome would be if they were abandoned by The Convoy.

Everyone nimbly scrambled onto their respective vehicles, started the engines, and checked their supplies, moving incredibly fast.

Not long after, the long Convoy set off again, moving slowly along the desolate road toward Mountain City.

In an ordinary van in the middle of The Convoy, seven or eight young survivors were crammed together, and despite the bumpy ride, it couldn't stop them from chatting.

A lean young man with sharp eyes nudged his companion's arm and spoke in a low voice.

"Hey, Shen Yun, how much supplies did you move at the service area today?"

The young man called Shen Yun, who had an ordinary appearance and seemed somewhat introverted, smiled bitterly upon hearing this and shook his head.

"Don't mention it. I only moved one pack of mineral water and one box of instant noodles, and after one trip, I quickly retreated."

"It's a good thing I ran fast and only made one trip; if I had been greedy and made a second trip, I definitely would have been trapped in the supermarket by that anomaly and lost my life."

Zhou Botao beside him immediately chuckled, his face full of pride, his chest puffed out unconsciously, his tone full of relief.

"Do you know how much I moved? Let me tell you, you'll be envious!"

"After those two idiots woke up the anomaly by pushing the handcart and got devoured, I saw that no one was looking after the handcart."

"I mustered up my courage and pulled it into the supermarket, loaded two packs of water, four boxes of instant noodles, and a few packs of ham sausages in one go—I hit the jackpot!"
