27: Chapter 27: Scared to Death
Zhou Che's eyes turned cold, and a monstrous killing intent instantly spread out. Without a word, he walked slowly toward the two men.
His footsteps were slow; every step he took landed on the scorching yellow sand, emitting a faint rustling sound.
But to those two Transcendents, these footsteps sounded like the knocking of the Grim Reaper.
Every step slammed into their hearts, causing their heartbeats to stop instantly. Fear engulfed their entire bodies like a tidal wave; they didn't even dare to breathe too loudly.
Zhou Che approached step by step, the killing intent radiating from him growing stronger. A scarlet blood mist rolled slightly, filling the air with overwhelming pressure.
Just as he reached them and was about to strike, a bizarre scene unfolded.
One of the Transcendents rolled his eyes back, foamed at the mouth, and convulsed violently a few times before actually being scared to death by Zhou Che's overwhelming might!
Zhou Che paused, stunned, and looked down at the corpse on the ground with a perplexed expression, muttering to himself:
"No way? Is that it? And you call yourself a Transcendent? Your guts are smaller than a mouse's! I haven't even made a move yet, and you're already scared to death?"
"Even the ordinary people in my own Convoy aren't this cowardly. The psychological resilience of these so-called Transcendents is pathetic; they're simply too fragile!"
He turned his head to look at the last Transcendent, who had been completely terrified out of his wits and was suffering a total mental breakdown.
A pungent, foul odor instantly filled the air. The man's crotch soaked through, and yellow liquid streamed down his pant leg—he had wet himself in front of Zhou Che out of sheer terror!
Zhou Che's sense of smell, enhanced by his Transcendent physique, was extremely acute.
He caught the stench instantly, his brows furrowing tightly. With a look of utter disgust, he didn't even want to spare another word or glance.
Too lazy to waste any more time on such trash, he raised his foot and, without a moment's hesitation, kicked the man hard in the chest, sending him to his grave and finishing off these two clowns.
After dealing with the three Transcendents, Zhou Che turned to look at Chen Fei, who had been kicked away and was lying unconscious not far off, and walked slowly toward him.
He bent down, raised his hand to Chen Fei's face, and delivered two loud, forceful backhanded slaps. "Slap! Slap!" The crisp, piercing sounds immediately jolted the unconscious Chen Fei awake.
Chen Fei slowly opened his eyes, his gaze dazed. His head throbbed, and his vision was blurry; it took him a long while to clearly see the person in front of him.
When he saw Zhou Che's icy, emotionless eyes and then turned to see the three corpses of his Transcendent companions on the ground, his heart sank to rock bottom. His entire body turned cold, and his blood seemed to freeze.
He realized fully that he had failed completely this time, lost everything, and wouldn't even be able to save his own life.
Zhou Che crouched down, resting one hand on his knee, and looked down at Chen Fei from a superior position. A playful smirk curled at the corner of his lips as he spoke in an icy, mocking tone:
"Oh, trash, finally awake?"
"I didn't expect this—a coward like you actually had the guts to organize a rebellion, to covet my Dawn Convoy, and to touch my people?"
"It seems I should have taught you all a lesson from the very beginning to completely crush your crooked thoughts, and it would have saved me all this trouble today. It's disgusting."
Blood trickled from the corner of Chen Fei's mouth, his face filled with bitterness, his eyes dull and lifeless.
He had no intention of resisting, nor did he beg for mercy. He simply looked at Zhou Che quietly, his voice hoarse, weak, and powerless:
"I know that I will certainly die today. Whether you want to kill me or torture me, it's up to you. I have nothing to say."
"I really had no other choice. Our Convoy has been trapped in The Desert for five or six days, and our supplies have long since bottomed out. Our dry rations and water are all gone, and two ordinary people have already starved to death. If we don't get supplies soon, within two days, everyone in The Convoy—whether they are ordinary people or Transcendents—will die here."
"As the captain, I couldn't just watch them die, so I had to take the risk and rob your vehicles. Even if there was only a one-in-ten-thousand chance, I had to try. I just wanted them to live a few more days; perhaps we could find a way out..."
At this point, the malice and greed in Chen Fei's eyes had vanished, replaced by a sense of complete relief.
He had long grown tired of the suffering in this apocalyptic world, the endless horrors, the scarcity of resources, the fear of dying at any moment, and the exhaustion of leading his team on the run.
He had led these people, struggling in the apocalypse for so long. He had never let them live a single day in peace, never let them have a full meal. Ending up like this was his own fault.
Chen Fei lifted his head, staring fixedly into Zhou Che's eyes, and said, word by word, using his last bit of strength:
"The riot in The Convoy was started by me. The ordinary people were instigated and coerced by me. If you want to kill, killing me is enough. You can also kill the troublemakers inside. But I beg you, don't wipe everyone out. Don't kill all the ordinary people."
"They are all innocent; they were all bewitched by me and don't understand anything."
"In my vehicle, there is a captain's notebook that records the habits of horrors and quite a few secrets. There is also an Ideal Grain Seed; it's a crop that can survive in the apocalypse. It doesn't need careful cultivation or much water to grow and bear fruit. It is the most precious resource in the apocalypse."
"I will give all of this to you, if you only promise me that you will take them in and let them follow you so they can survive in this apocalypse. Even if they have to do hard labor or eat the worst food, anything is fine..."
After listening, Zhou Che curled his lips into a disdainful sneer, looked at Chen Fei, and spoke in an indifferent tone:
"You are about to die. The things in your vehicle are already my spoils of war; it is only natural that they belong to me. There is no need to use this to negotiate with me."
"However, if you cannot provide other useful information or offer value that satisfies me, let alone sparing them, I can make you vanish into thin air right now, not even leaving a corpse behind."
In fact, Zhou Che never intended to kill those ordinary survivors.
He was very clear that these people were instigated and coerced by Chen Fei and the other Transcendents. In essence, they were all innocent, miserable survivors in the apocalypse.
Moreover, in the apocalypse, labor was extremely scarce; ordinary people were the foundation for the development and growth of The Convoy.
With fewer and fewer living people in the apocalypse, he could not simply kill the innocent at will and waste labor for nothing. Instead, he would take these people in to strengthen the power of the Dawn Convoy.
He said this only to threaten Chen Fei intentionally, wanting to extract more useful information from him.
Previously, that Guide, Captain Wu Jue, had died too quickly and left behind no useful information, while Chen Fei was also of the Pathfinder Sequence. He must surely know a lot of information. To him, this information was far more important than supplies!
Zhou Che stared at Chen Fei, his eyes cold, waiting quietly for him to speak, waiting for him to spill all the secrets he knew.
