19: Chapter 19 Vengeful Spirits and Black Mist
Captain Liu Ruyan was overjoyed and immediately activated the Pathfinder Sequence, focusing her senses on the strange movements around them and quickly locking onto a safe direction to travel.
After confirming the route, she went straight out of the vehicle, stood in the center of the camp, and called out to the entire The Convoy in a clear voice.
"All survivors, pack your things and leave immediately! The anomalies are arriving soon; we can't stay here anymore!"
Everyone around saw at a glance that Captain Liu Ruyan had come down from Zhou Che's RV, and they all understood in their hearts that this was Mr. Zhou's order.
No one dared to slack off, and no one dared to ask any questions. They immediately packed their supplies, checked their vehicles, and prepared to migrate with lightning speed.
Before long, The Convoy was fully prepared and set off in an orderly fashion.
Zhou Che's modified RV drove steadily at the very front to lead the way, followed closely by Luo Xi's vehicle.
Luo Xi was still unconscious and was being looked after by Ruan Xiaoxiao, who was driving. Behind them were the vehicles of all the survivors, arranged in a neat, orderly formation without the slightest chaos.
Zhou Che lay comfortably on the large bed inside the RV, feeling truly satisfied.
Now he didn't need to do anything himself.
The benefits of having a few more capable subordinates were immediately apparent!
Lin Wan held the steering wheel steadily while driving, requiring no intervention from him at all;
Captain Liu Ruyan stood by, continuously sensing the positions of anomalies and reporting safe routes in real-time, helping him avoid all danger.
As the boss, he could just lie back and slack off—resting whenever he wanted, cultivating whenever he pleased—living an incredibly carefree life.
After lying down for a while, he felt bored, so Zhou Che reached out and took the Captain's notebook he had found in Captain Wu Jue's vehicle, flipping through it casually.
One look was enough to make him jump up in surprise.
It turned out that Captain Wu Jue wasn't just an ordinary leader of The Convoy, but someone from the official authorities!
Even more shocking was that, long before the apocalypse descended, the authorities had already sensed that the anomalies were about to erupt, but the disaster spiraled completely out of control before they could issue a nationwide notification.
Zhou Che stopped overthinking and kept flipping through Captain Wu Jue's diary, feeling more and more alarmed the further he read.
The diary clearly recorded that four major top-tier forces had already risen in the apocalypse: the Mechanical City, the The Tribunal, the Time Walkers, and the Human Alliance, which had been spearheaded by the authorities.
These organizations had risen absurdly fast. As soon as the apocalypse showed the slightest sign of beginning, they had quietly emerged and made their preparations. By the time the catastrophe fully descended, they already had a solid foundation.
Compared to these behemoths, Zhou Che's makeshift, rogue The Convoy was simply insignificant.
The diary also specifically mentioned that these top-tier forces were guaranteed to have at least a Sequence Five Transcendent in charge. Their strength was unfathomable, and they were not people he could afford to provoke; clashing with them rashly would be a death sentence.
Zhou Che felt his heart burning with excitement as he read, and he couldn't help but start fantasizing.
"Once I reach the peak of power, I'll have to build an awesome organization too. It definitely needs a high-class, impressive name."
After pondering for a moment, he decided on the spot: it would be called the Dawn Sanctuary!
It sounded domineering, and one day it would definitely surpass those four major organizations!
He shook his head, cast these distracting thoughts aside, and continued flipping through the diary.
Inside, it also contained vital secrets about the Sequence.
It turned out that the Sequence was divided into complete and incomplete versions. Incomplete Sequences had inherent flaws, and no matter how hard one cultivated, they would never reach the peak of Sequence Zero.
And the ones he held—the Lord of the Blood Moon, the Halberd Wielder, the Physician, and the Guide—were all complete Sequences capable of reaching the peak of Sequence Zero!
What surprised him even more was that there was a limit to how many Sequences an ordinary person could awaken. The diary clearly stated that the most top-tier person he had ever seen had only awakened three Sequences.
Zhou Che's lips curled into a wild, arrogant smile, and he felt incredibly satisfied.
He possessed seven Sequences, having long ago broken through the limits of ordinary people. This was his greatest confidence for dominating the apocalypse!
Zhou Che closed Captain Wu Jue's diary; he sensed something was wrong and immediately activated the Pathfinder Sequence within him.
The next second, his expression changed drastically. He clearly sensed a strong sense of dissonance and suddenly looked out of the vehicle.
Outside the window, the usual wilderness was gone. All he could see was a desolate Gobi desert, barren and devoid of life; they had apparently stumbled into a dead, uninhabited zone.
Even more terrifying was a massive, bone-chilling aura of anomaly, which was rushing towards The Convoy with overwhelming force.
Captain Liu Ruyan, who was beside him, also sensed the crisis at the same time. The hairs on her body stood on end, and she suddenly turned to look at Zhou Che, her eyes full of inquiry, waiting for his orders.
Zhou Che's eyes were cold and sharp. He lowered his voice and issued a stern order: "The entire The Convoy, stop immediately! Turn off all headlights and do not make a single sound!"
The order was passed down, and the entire The Convoy instantly fell into a deathly silence.
The headlights were all extinguished, the engine sounds vanished completely, and everyone held their breath, not even daring to breathe loudly.
Not long after, a thick black fog surged from the distance, moving at an extremely fast speed, pressing straight towards the direction of The Convoy.
As the black fog drew closer, an aura even more oppressive than dark clouds hanging over a city tightly enveloped everyone, making it hard for them to breathe.
When the black fog drew near and everyone saw the truth, their scalps tingled, and cold sweat instantly broke out on their backs.
This was no black fog; it was clearly thousands of Vengeful Spirits crowded together, dense and packed, looking like a black mist from afar!
The Vengeful Spirits twisted ceaselessly, emitting shrill and piercing wails, their voices filled with extreme pain that made people's heads ache.
As the Vengeful Spirits drew closer, an inexplicable rage suddenly surged in Zhou Che's heart, which he couldn't control at all, the anger rushing straight to his head.
He was shocked and cursed inwardly: "Damn it! These Vengeful Spirits can actually interfere with the mind, deliberately inciting the anger deep within a person!"
He knew this was a catastrophe for the unarmed ordinary survivors in The Convoy, and they were about to suffer!
Sure enough, before he could think further, the roar of a survivor losing control came from the back of The Convoy, followed immediately by a shrill scream.
The scream lasted only for a moment before it came to an abrupt end, and there was complete silence.
At the same time, a bone-piercing chill seeped into the marrow, making the survivors tremble all over, their teeth chattering uncontrollably.
They were both angry and afraid, their minds thrown into chaos by the Vengeful Spirits, yet they covered their mouths tightly, not daring to make a single sound.
Zhou Che gritted his teeth, trying his best to suppress the surging rage in his heart, not daring to move an inch.
He couldn't save anyone right now; if he exposed his location, he wouldn't survive either.
Lin Wan and Captain Liu Ruyan, who were by his side, were so scared that their bodies went limp, their faces as pale as paper, holding onto Zhou Che tightly, treating him as their only reliance.
The two were filled with fear, terrified that this pillar of support would fall and they would be devoured by the Vengeful Spirits, leaving not even a scrap behind.
When the mass of Wraith Black Mist gradually drifted away, the gloomy and oppressive feeling that had shrouded the surroundings slowly dissipated.
The survivors in The Convoy finally dared to take deep breaths, collapsing onto the ground, their bodies weak.
Just from that short period of lying low, as the wave of Vengeful Spirits passed by, nearly half of the people in The Convoy had been wiped out.
The camp was instantly filled with wails, and the sounds of crying and sobbing rose one after another.
Some had lost their loved ones and were crying heart-rendingly; some had lost their entire family and were left alone in the apocalypse, their eyes filled with despair.
There were also a few lone wolf survivors who, while still shaken, suddenly noticed quite a few things scattered on the ground.
They were deep blue crystals, translucent and bright, with a faint cold light shimmering on their surfaces.
Upon touching them, a bone-chilling cold instantly seeped from their fingertips into their bones, making them shiver all over.
Zhou Che also took in this scene, feeling a faint sense of wariness in his heart, and at first, he didn't dare to rashly go up and touch them.
