24: Chapter 24 The Vehicles Take Off
At these words, the four Transcendent from the Voyage Convoy instantly went on high alert, thinking she was about to unleash a powerful ultimate move.
After all, the Dawn Convoy consisted entirely of hovering vehicles; with such a display, who wouldn't know they were powerful?
Being powerful meant their ultimate move must be terrifying.
They all took a large step back in unison, dodging in a panic, fearing they would be caught in the blast.
Yet, they never expected that in the next second, they would be completely played!
As soon as the words left her lips, Captain Liu Ruyan turned around, grabbed Ruan Xiaoxiao, and without bothering to tangle with them, bolted straight toward Zhou Che's car.
The two quickly got in, started the vehicle, and the modified beast of a car instantly lifted off, hovering steadily in mid-air.
The Transcendent of the Voyage Convoy finally reacted, hopping mad and cursing wildly.
But among the four of them, three lacked flight abilities and could only stare up helplessly.
Only one Transcendent of the Beastman Sequence could transform into a bird and possessed the ability to fly; the others could only remain on the ground, furious and frustrated.
The Beastman Sequence fully erupted. The skin on his back suddenly tore open, and a pair of fleshy wings reeking of a grey-black stench violently unfurled, the barbs on the wingtips causing the wind and sand of The Desert to hiss.
He flapped his wings and took to the sky, his figure as fast as an afterimage, carrying a violent aura as he lunged straight for Zhou Che's hovering RV.
Captain Liu Ruyan's palms were slick with cold sweat, her hands gripping the steering wheel until her knuckles turned white.
She slammed her foot down on the accelerator, and the modified car's engine let out a furious roar as it suddenly pulled an extreme sharp turn in the air.
The car body trembled violently, narrowly dodging the Beastman's fatal strike, and then it fled frantically toward the depths of The Desert.
But after beast-transformation, one is naturally known for speed; with every flap of his wings, he could close the distance by several meters.
No matter how Captain Liu Ruyan zigzagged or changed directions frantically, she couldn't shake the pursuer behind them.
In just a few short seconds, the Beastman had caught up to the vehicle; there was simply nowhere to run.
The muscles on the Beastman's back were knotted and taut. With a fierce flap of his wings, he suddenly slammed himself onto the front windshield.
His fist, wrapped in the Beastman's wild brute force, whistled as it cut through the air, and without the slightest hesitation, slammed heavily into the glass!
"Clang!"
The loud noise made the eardrums of the two inside the car ache, and the RV lurched violently.
Captain Liu Ruyan and Ruan Xiaoxiao slammed hard against their seats, their hearts instantly leaping into their throats, thinking the glass was surely going to shatter.
But to the Beastman's shock, his pupils constricting, the reinforced bulletproof glass that Zhou Che had personally modified hadn't shattered at all!
It had only been struck with a crack as thin as a hair; the glass remained firmly embedded in the frame, without even the slightest wobble. It was absurdly sturdy.
Captain Liu Ruyan let out a long breath, her back already soaked with cold sweat, and her entire body relaxed slightly.
It was fortunate that Mr. Zhou had replaced all the vehicle's glass with top-tier reinforced versions long ago; they were smash-proof, bulletproof, and impact-resistant.
Otherwise, that one punch would have broken through, and the two of them would have been in immediate danger.
But she also knew in her heart that the glass had only withstood the attack temporarily. If the Beastman kept focusing his assault on the crack, it wouldn't take long before the glass was smashed through.
Once the Beastman broke into the car, she was a Guide and Ruan Xiaoxiao was a Medic—both were Support Sequences with absolutely no power to fight back.
Captain Liu Ruyan's eyes hardened. Daring not to delay for even a second, she yanked the steering wheel again while simultaneously pushing her Pathfinder Sequence to the limit.
Sensing the surrounding airflow and spatial fluctuations, she maneuvered the RV to weave frantically through the air, just wanting to completely shake off this fearless Beastman.
Staring at the crack on the glass, the Beastman's ferocity and greed were fully aroused. How could he easily let go of prey that was already in his grasp?
Since he had already cracked the windshield, he felt that if he threw a few more punches, he would surely be able to shatter it.
Once the glass was broken, the two women in the car would be lambs for the slaughter!
He let out a roar, his eyes completely bloodshot. His fists descended like a torrential downpour, one after another, each strike more powerful than the last, as he stared intently at the crack and smashed it frantically!
With every punch that landed, a deafening clanging sound erupted, and the cracks spread and intertwined rapidly.
In just a moment's time, the entire front windshield was covered in spiderweb-like cracks, looking shocking and as if it would completely shatter in the next second.
Yet, the quality of the glass modified by Zhou Che was just too hardcore; even covered in cracks, it remained firmly bonded together.
It stubbornly withstood the Beastman's storm-like assault, refusing to shatter or fall apart.
Meanwhile, the brawl among the ordinary survivors on the ground had entered a white-hot stage.
Cries of battle, curses, the dull thuds of fists and feet colliding, and the rustling of splashing yellow sand mixed with the hot wind of The Desert, creating a chaotic mess.
The survivors of the Voyage Convoy were crazed with hunger, each one acting like a mad dog.
Clutching stones and wooden sticks in their hands, they lunged at the Dawn Convoy like lunatics, wanting only to snatch the dry rations, water, and gasoline from the other side;
The people of the Dawn Convoy weren't cowards either; everyone's eyes were red as they protected their supplies. These items were obtained by risking their lives and were their means of survival—they wouldn't hand them over even if they had to fight to the death!
The two groups wrestled together, covered in splashing yellow sand. Some were beaten until their noses were bruised and faces swollen, while others clung tightly to their supplies, refusing to let go. The scene was chaotic and unbearable, full of the grim struggle for survival in the apocalypse.
The three remaining Transcendent of the Voyage Convoy stood to the side, watching coldly. Their gazes were fixed intently on the struggle in the sky, with no intention of caring about the life and death on the ground.
They knew clearly that the brawl on the ground was nothing more than a minor scuffle; the outcome in the sky was the key!
As long as they took down those two women in the sky and seized control of the hovering RV, the Dawn Convoy would be leaderless, and the ordinary people on the ground would be nothing to fear;
But if they couldn't win in the sky, once Zhou Che returned, the four of them as Transcendent wouldn't stand a chance, and by then, everyone would die without a burial place!
The three clenched their fists, staring at the Beastman with anxiety, wishing they could grow a pair of wings themselves and fly up to help.
But the abilities the three of them had awakened possessed no flight capability at all. They could only stare up helplessly from the ground, scratching their heads and pacing back and forth in their anxiety, yet they had no way to help.
Just as the Beastman exerted his final ounce of strength and slammed his fist down hard.
Finally shattering the crack-riddled windshield, at the moment the shards flew, Ruan Xiaoxiao in the passenger seat's eyes suddenly sharpened—she had been prepared!
From the moment the Beastman had caught up, she had secretly clutched a handful of ground green medicinal powder, waiting just for this moment!
Ruan Xiaoxiao raised her hand and threw the handful of green medicinal powder fiercely at the Beastman's exposed face and eyes, holding nothing back!
Caught off guard, the Beastman's entire face was coated in the powder, and he instantly let out a shrill, piercing roar, his voice full of pain.
The powder was highly corrosive; the moment it touched his skin, it burned like a raging fire, and getting into his eyes felt like venomous ants gnawing at his eyeballs.
The pain made his whole body convulse violently, his hands clutching his eyes tightly as he thrashed about wildly in the sky.
Having completely lost his reason, he flapped his fleshy wings erratically and could no longer maintain his flight posture.
His whole body, like a broken sack, plummeted straight from the high sky, slamming heavily into the sand and kicking up a large cloud of dust.
The Beastman lay on the ground rolling back and forth, in agonizing pain, his eyes a bloody mess.
Ruan Xiaoxiao knew that this powder could only cause him temporary pain and couldn't take his life.
But the three Transcendent on the ground didn't think so.
