36: Chapter 36 The Mysterious Sleep
Upon hearing this, Zhou Che immediately activated his Pathfinder Sequence.
His Pathfinder Sequence had already advanced to Sequence 2, and his perception range and precision were a tier above Captain Liu Ruyan's.
Closing his eyes for a moment, he took in all the auras within the service area.
That Horror was indeed in a deep slumber; its aura was steady without the slightest fluctuation. Moreover, The Convoy was running low on supplies and fuel, leaving them with no way out.
After a moment of thought, Zhou Che made the call:
"It's worth a gamble. Once we're inside, no one is allowed to make a sound. Move quietly. Grab the supplies and withdraw immediately. You must not wake the Horror."
With that said, Zhou Che parked the car and summoned all the Transcendents of The Convoy to discuss a strategy on the spot.
Lin Wan, Ruan Xiaoxiao, Wang Zhiming, as well as the newly ascended Shen Fei, Sister Zhang, and Wang Laowu, all quickly gathered around.
After hearing about their current desperate situation and the plan to venture into the service area, no one had any objections.
Everyone understood that if they didn't take this gamble, the ordinary people would surely die on foot, and The Convoy would suffer heavy losses, unable to make it to the next supply point.
Rather than sitting and waiting for death, it was better to take a risk!
With the decision finalized, The Convoy set off again, silently approaching the service area.
Before long, a dilapidated and desolate highway service area appeared before The Convoy.
The doors and windows were broken, the place was in shambles, and it exuded an eerie, deathly silence.
Zhou Che ordered them to stop immediately, and all vehicles killed their engines to eliminate any noise.
Captain Liu Ruyan walked to the front of the crowd again, lowered her voice, and sternly warned everyone:
"There is an extremely powerful Horror inside. Let me emphasize this again: once inside, move quietly. No playing around, and do not make any unnecessary noise.
Whoever dares to wake the Horror will stay behind as a sacrifice, and we will abandon them!"
The crowd shivered, nodding quickly with terrified expressions; no one dared to joke with their own lives.
Following this, ordinary survivors and Transcendents entered the service area in batches, moving on tiptoe to start searching for fuel, food, and drinking water.
Zhou Che, on the other hand, leisurely lay back in his RV and closed his eyes to rest.
Naturally, he also sensed the Horror in the service area; that aura was incomparably powerful.
He wasn't confident at all and wasn't sure if he could win.
Since he had his subordinate Transcendents and ordinary people to collect supplies, there was naturally no need for him to take risks personally.
He would let the others lead the charge first. If the Horror really woke up, he would decide whether to fight or run based on the Horror's strength.
If he could beat it, he would gather all the Transcendents to surround and kill it, gaining a haul of supplies;
If he couldn't, he would simply drive his modified RV and run away; with his flight ability, no one could catch him.
Throughout the entire process, Zhou Che secretly kept his Pathfinder Sequence active, staring intently at the movements of the Horror within the service area, ready to react at any moment.
Wang Laowu had just become a Transcendent and was a member of the Armament Department, so he couldn't dodge this kind of labor-intensive work.
Moreover, his fuel had also run out, and he needed to replenish his supplies.
He took two underlings who usually followed him and sneaked into the supermarket next to the gas station, intending to move essential supplies like mineral water and instant noodles.
As a Transcendent of the Beastman Sequence, Wang Laowu's strength far exceeded that of an ordinary person; he single-handedly carried 6 cases of mineral water with a steady gait, without the slightest effort.
The two underlings behind him also each carried a few cases of instant noodles, following in his footsteps.
Looking at the supplies in their arms, the two underlings beamed with joy, but when their eyes swept over the mountains of food in the supermarket, they were filled with reluctance.
Just carrying this little bit of supplies wasn't enough to fill the gaps in their teeth; it was too much of a loss!
One of the underlings had worked at this service area before the apocalypse and knew the layout inside like the back of his hand.
He suddenly remembered that there was a flatbed cart for moving goods in the service area warehouse. If they could push the cart out, they could haul away over a dozen cases of supplies at once—that would be much more cost-effective than carrying them by hand!
The underling lowered his voice and muttered to his companion:
"There's a flatbed cart in the warehouse. Let's go push it out; we can carry so much more stuff!"
The two hit it off immediately, simply placing the instant noodles they were holding at the supermarket entrance and tiptoeing toward the warehouse.
The warehouse was pitch black, unable to see one's own fingers, and permeated with a rotting, musty smell.
The two didn't dare to make a single sound, holding their breath as they carefully turned on their flashlight, the faint beam of light swaying within the warehouse.
Soon, they saw the large flatbed cart in the corner. Looking at it, it could hold over a dozen cases of instant noodles, and the two felt a surge of secret joy.
But just as they walked up to the cart, one of them reached out and pulled it, and his expression changed instantly—the cart was missing a wheel!
Dragged across the rough concrete floor, the wheel-less cart instantly emitted a sharp, grating friction sound that was particularly jarring in the deathly silent warehouse!
The two were scared out of their wits, their faces turning pale as their hearts jumped into their throats; they went rigid, not daring to move an inch.
It's over!
Such a loud noise would definitely wake the Horror inside!
They held their breath, staring intently at their surroundings, quietly waiting for death to descend.
But after several seconds, the warehouse remained deathly silent, without any unusual movements; that powerful Horror aura remained steady.
The two let out long sighs of relief, patting their chests in secret celebration, thinking it was just a false alarm.
Not daring to drag the cart again, the two simply lifted it together, intending to carry it back to the supermarket to use as a flatbed for loading supplies.
They didn't notice at all that on the pitch-black ceiling of the warehouse, a viscous black shadow was slowly squirming.
It followed silently behind them, leaving the warehouse with them.
The two carried the cart and walked into the supermarket happily, their hearts full of the joy of moving more supplies.
The other survivors in the supermarket saw them carrying the cart in and immediately revealed deep envy in their eyes.
With this cart, they could carry several times more supplies at once; who wouldn't be jealous?
But this envy only lasted for a second!
The next second, the expressions on all the survivors' faces froze instantly.
Replacing it was an extreme fear that seeped from their bones; their eyes were fixed on what was behind the two, and they trembled all over, unable to even scream.
The two underlings carrying the cart sensed something was wrong, and their hearts skipped a beat.
A second ago they were being envied, and the next, everyone looked as if they had seen a ghost; they instantly realized that there must be something behind them!
The Horror is here!
The two were scared stiff, not daring to turn around, their legs going weak; they only wanted to quietly put down the cart and run outside for their lives.
But before they could make any move, a thick darkness instantly swallowed them.
Without even a scream, their auras dissipated directly, and their lives were completely snuffed out.
The survivors in the supermarket could no longer hold it together; they instantly descended into chaos, screaming and pushing, desperately running toward the door, wanting to escape this death trap.
But it was already too late.
That viscous, slime-like black Horror firmly blocked the only exit of the supermarket, exuding a cold and decaying aura that was daunting to behold.
Wang Laowu and Shen Fei, who were guarding outside the supermarket, heard the screams inside and immediately turned their heads to look at the supermarket entrance, spotting that black mass blocking the door at a glance.
"Holy sh*t! The Horror is awake!"
Wang Laowu cursed inwardly, his expression changing drastically.
