696: Wang Chen's plan to attract monsters

Hu Guanglin’s words truly broadened Wang Chen’s horizons.

These were all pieces of information not recorded in the books he had found.

For him, they were extremely useful.

Especially the Dead Spirits that appeared at night in the Netherworld, possessing civilization, which made a strong sense of vigilance rise in Wang Chen’s heart.

If these Dead Spirits were all savage monsters only knowing slaughter, or even if they only possessed a certain level of intelligence like Demonic Beasts, they wouldn't pose too much danger to him.

After all, monsters like these, no matter how powerful, would basically be controlled by desire and instinct.

But possessing civilization was different; it meant that the Dead Spirits’ intelligence was no longer inferior to humans.

Under such circumstances, venturing into the wilderness at night with his previous understanding would be dangerous if he were targeted by these Dead Spirits.

After parting ways with Hu Guanglin, Wang Chen returned to his inn room and pondered silently.

Although he had only been out for an hour last night, his gains were very considerable. The Dead Spirits' power was a threat, but he couldn't give up because of it.

Currently, the experience points he could gain from killing Demonic Beasts in the Demon Beast Forest that had been corrupted by Dead Spirit power were already very substantial. Wang Chen guessed that killing Dead Spirits would yield even more.

After all, according to the conservation of energy, the Demonic Beasts in the Demon Beast Forest at night could provide twice the experience points of wild monsters of the same Rank on Blue Star, which was a very abnormal situation.

And the reason for this situation was very likely the Dead Spirit power clinging to these Demonic Beasts’ bodies.

Wang Chen felt that it was very necessary for him to verify this guess, and even taking some risks for it would be worthwhile.

“The sense of being spied on that I felt when killing Demonic Beasts last night was very likely from those Dead Spirits lurking in the shadows.”

“They haven’t appeared, very likely because they can’t make up their minds, or perhaps my displayed strength was too great, making them unsure.”

“Tonight, I can intentionally show weakness to lull them into a false sense of security and draw them out.”

“As long as my guess is confirmed, then the gains I can achieve from coming to the Netherworld this time will likely be terrifying.”

Wang Chen stroked his chin, pondering silently.

Compared to the humans in the Netherworld, he had no Dead Spirit power in his body, so staying in the wilderness at night for long periods meant he didn’t have to worry about resonating with the active Dead Spirit power in the world.

This Innate advantage put him ahead.

“No pain, no gain. I’ll try it tonight.”

“I’ll go a little deeper into the Demon Beast Forest, and after a battle, intentionally show weakness to attract the Dead Spirits to act.”

“My current displayed strength is only equivalent to a Rank Six in the Netherworld. These guys couldn’t possibly send out beings above Rank Nine.”

Having made up his mind, Wang Chen stayed in the inn all day, recuperating and waiting for nightfall.

...

...

The night was as dark as ink.

Enveloping the entire world.

“This position should be about right.”

Wang Chen stood on the rock wall of a valley, looking down with indifferent eyes.

He had now ventured about twenty miles deep into the Demon Beast Forest, fully entering its outer region.

On the maps sold by the hunters in Green Field Town, this area was already quite dangerous, mostly frequented by Rank Four Demonic Beasts, and occasionally even Rank Five Demonic Beasts would appear.

Normal Rank Six Mages or Warriors who dared to come here at night would simply be seeking death.

Demonic Beasts, corrupted by Dead Spirit power and turned mad and violent, would tear any intruders here to shreds. Even a Rank Seven coming here would have to flee in disarray under the beast horde tactic.

Of course, the risks here were completely negligible for Wang Chen.

At this moment.

In the valley below Wang Chen, massive figures roamed, their grotesque forms and claws exuding a chilling Aura.

These monsters had green faces and fangs, wolf-like heads, and eyes that glowed with a faint red light. When standing upright, they were over five meters tall, their arms hung at their sides, and their sharp, gleaming claws almost dragged on the ground.

“Roar, roar, roar!!!”

The suppressed, savage, low roars filled the entire valley with a murderous atmosphere.

Wolf Fiends, Rank Four Demonic Beasts, pack-dwelling.

Each one was thick-skinned and tough-fleshed, with terrifying close-combat abilities. A Martial Master of the same Rank would almost certainly be beaten badly when encountering them.

And there were seventy such Wolf Fiends in the valley below.

Such a force would be more than enough to hunt a Rank Six.

“They’re the ones. This Wolf Fiend gathering place is far from other Demonic Beast gathering places, so even if I make a commotion, the surrounding Demonic Beasts won’t be able to reach here quickly.”

Wang Chen’s gaze swept over the Wolf Fiends below, and he nodded in satisfaction.

These Wolf Fiends were his specially chosen prey: pack-dwelling, strong territorial awareness, and no other Demonic Beasts within several miles, perfectly meeting his requirements for bait, while also avoiding a large-scale Demonic Beast rampage like on the first night.

“Time to get to work!”

“I hope those Dead Spirits hiding in the dark will appear as I wish. There’s not much time left for them and me.”

Thinking silently, Wang Chen moved his foot and leaped directly from the top of the rock wall.

With a bang!

The next second, he smashed onto the ground in the valley like a cannonball.

Swish, swish, swish!

Instantly, the huge commotion attracted the attention of the Wolf Fiends. Pairs of blood-red eyes, glowing with bloodlust, immediately looked over, staring intently at the uninvited guest who had intruded into their territory.

“Roar, roar, roar!!!”

Upon seeing the identity of the uninvited guest, every Wolf Fiend let out a savage and excited roar.

A human!

A human actually dared to actively intrude into their territory?

Was this actively offering themselves as an extra meal?

“Roar, roar, roar!!!”

Without any hesitation, the Wolf Fiends immediately went wild, scrambling to Charge at Wang Chen.

These five-meter-tall behemoths, when running wildly, their Aura was extremely terrifying. Although there were only seventy of them, the commotion they caused was comparable to a thousand troops Charging.

The ground was trampled, creating a drumming roar, and the entire valley trembled along with it.

A normal Rank Six Transcendent in the Netherworld facing these Charging Wolf Fiends would probably be scared and turn to run immediately.

But at this moment, Wang Chen’s expression was incredibly calm.

“Today, I’ll have a good time playing with you all.”

Wang Chen stretched his arms, a faint hint of excitement flashing in his eyes.

That damned feeling of being spied on from last night had appeared again, and it was even stronger.

Although he couldn't perceive the location of these spies through his senses, Wang Chen was sure that he had attracted more Dead Spirits tonight than last night.

“I need to control my power; don’t scare these guys away.”

Thinking this, Wang Chen shot out like lightning the next second.

With a bang!

After he rushed out, an explosive roar only then erupted in the valley.
