856: Taunting

Bang!

A heavy object slammed against Blade City's defensive barrier, stirring up faint wisps of spiritual light.

For the entire defensive barrier, such a collision was barely even an itch; it was too weak to be worth mentioning.

However, it was precisely the faint spiritual light stirred up on this defensive barrier that caused the hearts of all the Undead Warriors on Blade City's wall to feel as if a great mountain had been pressed upon them.

Anger, humiliation, fear…

All sorts of emotions flashed across their faces like a rapidly changing lantern show.

Especially when Zoltan’s head slid down along the curve of the defensive barrier, every Dead Spirit felt as if Zoltan’s angry and resentful eyes were staring at them.

At this moment, the wall of Blade City was silent, with only breathing gradually becoming heavier.

“Zoltan…”

Doreina looked at Zoltan, who had been full of vigor and plotting with her not long ago, now reduced to a lifeless head, and a trace of sadness flashed in her eyes.

When the rabbit dies, the fox grieves!

Although her friendship with Zoltan was not profound, having been colleagues for over a hundred years, ripples couldn't help but rise in her heart.

She knew that if Zoltan hadn't been unlucky enough to be chosen by that Human True Lord outside, then the head that slammed against the defensive barrier right now should have been hers.

Doreina pondered, and couldn't help but reach out her hand, wanting to retrieve Zoltan's head, which had fallen into the mud.

Slam!

However, just as she was about to act, Urshan next to her stopped her.

“What do you want to do?”

Urshan's large eyes stared intently at Doreina, with scrutiny and deep tension in his gaze.

“What do you think?”

Doreina retorted:

“Zoltan was a Great Commander of our Blade City Guardian Legion. He was brutally killed by a Human in front of us. Are we not going to collect his body, but just let him be exposed in the wilderness?”

“Are you crazy?”

Urshan's pupils contracted, and he looked at Doreina with an incredulous expression.

“That Human True Lord is glaring outside. If you want to retrieve Zoltan's head, aren't you afraid he’ll chop off your hand?”

Urshan said, his tone gradually becoming stricter:

“City Lord Guger’s order is to stand ready and not make any rash moves. Before City Lord Guger issues any new orders, no one is allowed to leave the wall, nor make any unusual movements!”

“Are we just going to watch like this?”

“All the warriors of the Guardian Legion are standing here, just letting them watch their Great Commander's body exposed in the wilderness like a wild dog by the roadside? We are clearly so close to him, yet we just watch with our own eyes?”

Doreina retorted unceremoniously, and at the end, she even cursed softly:

“What kind of a worthless order is this that City Lord Guger gave!”

Originally, Doreina's reverence for Gugor was due to his powerful Middle Stage Ninth-rank strength, but now, Gugor was cowering in the City Lord's Mansion, allowing the Human Race to show off their might outside, and even ordered them not to take any drastic actions…

All of this made Doreina's reverence for Gugor vanish.

A Middle Stage Ninth-rank powerhouse? Blade City’s City Lord?

Just an old turtle who had been scared witless and only knew how to hide in his lair in fear!

“Watch your words!”

Upon hearing Doreina’s words, Urshan’s mouth twitched.

He never expected his colleague to be so bold, daring to criticize City Lord Guger in such a way while standing on the city wall.

One must know that Blade City's Guardian Array was completely controlled by City Lord Guger. Once activated, the defensive barrier covering the entire Blade City allowed Gugor's perception to spread throughout the entire city, meaning he could easily observe the situation in any part of Blade City.

The warriors on the wall, as well as their two Great Commanders, were all within Gugor's sight.

However…

Although Doreina's words were very disrespectful, a hint of agreement couldn't help but rise in Urshan's heart.

It really was a worthless order!

Blade City, as a second-tier gathering place among the Dead Spirit Race, second only to the supreme Holy City, was now forced to cower by just one Human True Lord of the Middle Stage Ninth-rank.

Blade City clearly possessed the power to kill this Human True Lord, and the existence of the Guardian Array had already put them in an unbeatable position, but…

Gugor, out of fear for his life, just let the Human True Lord trample their Dead Spirit dignity underfoot.

It was impossible for Urshan to have no resentment.

However, as a Great Commander of the Blade City Guardian Legion, even if Urshan thought Doreina was right, he could only choose to stop her.

Military orders were like mountains. No matter how much he disliked Gugor's actions, he had to execute his reasonable orders.

Dissatisfaction?

That would have to wait until this storm passed, the crisis was resolved, and then he would report to the Holy City.

“If you don't want to die, listen to me, Doreina. You don't want to end up like Zoltan, becoming a corpse under that Human’s feet, do you?”

Seeing Doreina still fuming, Urshan said in a deep voice:

“With the defensive barrier of the Guardian Array now, that Human True Lord cannot enter, nor does he dare to enter Blade City. But if you go out, you will be a ready-made prey for him.”

“Just wait. The defensive barrier of the Guardian Array is sufficient to withstand continuous bombardment from a Middle Stage Ninth-rank powerhouse. That Human will retreat on his own when he sees that it's impossible.”

“At that time, we can collect Zoltan’s remains.”

“Alright… alright!”

Doreina nodded upon hearing this, shifting her gaze away from the head below the wall, which was illuminated by the defensive barrier's light like a demon.

She redirected it to that hateful Human in the distance.

Just then.

“Heh heh!”

She suddenly saw that Human in the distance grin, followed by a flat voice, carrying undisguised mockery, that resounded in the ears of Doreina, Urshan, and the surrounding Undead Warriors.

“How boring!”

“Your companion’s corpse is separated from you by only this thin layer of defensive barrier, yet you don’t dare to collect his body.”

“I think, from now on, you can change your name to the Turtle Race!”

“Truly boring! Since you don’t dare to come out, then you can just keep shrinking here forever!”

The voice carried undisguised mockery, causing angry blood to appear in the eyes of every Dead Spirit who heard it, and their hands gripping their weapons unconsciously tightened.

Doreina and Urshan, moreover, were so enraged that veins bulged on their foreheads, and the power surging within them formed small whirlwinds on the city tower.

However, none of them dared to move. They could only watch as that Human finished his mockery, turned around, and walked step by step into the darkness, until he vanished without a trace.

“Damn Human Race!”

“One day, we will completely eradicate you from this world!”

At this moment, the same thought couldn't help but emerge in the hearts of all the Dead Spirits.
