101: To fight or to retreat?

As Fang Hui retreated in fear, Qin Shilei had already reached the very back of their team.

Looking down, he saw two to three hundred zombies chasing at the very end of Fang Hui's team.

But there were only two to three hundred zombies; no greater number of zombies were chasing further back.

Groundless fears!

These zombies were likely just a group from nearby, attracted by Fang Hui and his team, and thus gave chase.

Qin Shilei continued to fly forward and found that the main force of the zombies was still further away, and would not reach Luyang Bridge for at least an hour.

An hour was enough time for the military corps that had run out of He Shan District to return to He Shan District.

Once they crossed Chi Yuan River, they would be able to advance or defend as needed.

When Qin Shilei returned to the team again, the 007 Corps and 018 Corps had all crossed Luyang Bridge and returned to He Shan District.

Qin Shilei let the members of the corps return home, while he himself flew to other districts of Nanzhuang City again.

This time, he planned to thoroughly investigate the specific situation of the zombies.

Little Qiang, flying high in the sky, occasionally caused some commotion among the zombies below.

Those zombies looked up, waved their sharp claws a few times, but could do nothing to Little Qiang and Qin Shilei, who swept past them.

During this time, Qin Shilei also encountered armed helicopters coming for inspection.

Upon discovering the enormous Little Qiang, they were all so scared that they immediately turned around and flew away.

Qin Shilei mumbled, "Their eyesight is really bad, can't they see me?"

Just as he was about to turn and fly elsewhere, he suddenly saw an armed helicopter surrounded by a flock of small birds.

He didn't know if the armed helicopter had fired first, angering the flock of small birds.

That flock of incredibly fast small birds surprisingly launched a suicidal attack on the armed helicopter.

They all flew rapidly and crashed into the helicopter.

The helicopter frantically pulled up while simultaneously firing its machine gun wildly at the flock of small birds.

"Not good, Little Qiang, let's go over quickly."

Qin Shilei suddenly noticed the armed helicopter shake, then a thick plume of smoke emerged.

When he arrived a hundred meters away from the armed helicopter, it finally couldn't hold on, falling to the ground in flames.

"Boom!"

With an explosion, the helicopter, which had already broken into several pieces, burst into flames.

It was likely that the soldiers inside were either blown up or burned to death.

No wonder armed helicopters hadn't been seen patrolling this area in recent days to check on the zombie movements.

It turns out the sky wasn't much safer than the ground.

Once something went wrong, it meant being utterly annihilated.

At this moment, that flock of small birds also discovered Qin Shilei and Little Qiang.

"Whoosh!"

After a cry, Little Qiang actively flew towards that flock of small birds.

"Chirp, chirp."

The small birds chirped in panic, then scattered and fled.

Qin Shilei and Little Qiang, one human and one eagle, chased that flock of small birds for over ten kilometers, striking down eighty percent of the small birds, before continuing to observe the zombie movements.

After more than two hours, he finally got a clear understanding of the situation of most of the zombies.

The situation was grim!

Most of the zombies in the entire Nanzhuang City had already been summoned by the Zombie King, who was hidden somewhere unknown, and were rapidly heading towards He Shan District.

Nanzhuang City, as the provincial capital of Laishan Province, had a population of over six million before the apocalypse.

When the apocalypse arrived, about seventy percent of the people turned into zombies, which was over four million.

The zombies in He Shan District had already been eliminated, so now Nanzhuang City probably still had over three million zombies.

This number was almost double the number of zombies that surrounded Ningan City.

Of course, those zombies were currently blocked on the other side of Chi Yuan River.

As long as they defended the several large bridges over Chi Yuan River, they could basically keep the zombies out.

At worst, if those few large bridges were blown up, ninety-nine percent of the zombies would be unable to cross Chi Yuan River and threaten the humans on this side.

Back at Five Villa, Qin Shilei described the zombie situation in detail.

"That's the general situation. What are your opinions?"

An Qian was the first to express her opinion, "I think there's no need to rush to retreat for now, after all, we still have Chi Yuan River to help with defense."

Zhang Qiang then added, "An Qian is right, but to be safe, we should still find a retreat route."

Mu Ziping also said from the side, "Commander, actually the current situation is completely different from when you were in Anning city."

"Our military has over a hundred thousand people, and your four major civilian military corps also have nearly two hundred thousand people."

"Compared to the more than three million zombies inside Nanzhuang City, the numbers are indeed quite disparate, but as Commander An said, we have an absolute geographical advantage."

"And we can advance or defend, so there's no need to rush to consider the issue of retreat."

Qin Shilei glanced at Mu Ziping and said with a smile, "Deputy Officer Mu, you don't need to persuade us so actively, we haven't said we're evacuating yet?"

Mu Ziping smiled sheepishly.

He indeed did not want Qin Shilei and his team to leave Nanzhuang City.

Through his observations in the past few days, he had repeatedly raised his evaluation of Qin Shilei and his team.

Qin Shilei was a super strong man who could directly confront a tyrant.

Mu Ziping had also seen Soldier King take action before.

Although Soldier King was in the Bronze Realm, he was not necessarily stronger than Qin Shilei.

Not only that, An Qian, Zhang Qiang, and even Zhang Xiaoli were excessively strong.

If such a group of super-strong individuals could stay in Nanzhuang City, it would definitely be an invaluable asset for defending and even reclaiming Nanzhuang City.

That's why Mu Ziping was eager for Qin Shilei and his team to stay.

He even reported the situation to the military, hoping that the military could win over Qin Shilei and his team.

Qin Shilei ignored Mu Ziping's little schemes and continued to discuss the zombie counterattack with An Qian and the others.

Finally, they decided to temporarily stay in Nanzhuang City, but also to choose one or even several retreat routes.

Once the situation became untenable, they would retreat in time.

After Qin Shilei made the final decision, he turned to Mu Ziping and said, "Deputy Officer Mu, regarding this zombie counterattack, I hope to get the military's latest and most truthful decisions."

"Can you do it?"

Mu Ziping said solemnly, "I'll do my best; I'm also a member of the 007 Corps."

Not long after.

A series of artillery roars came from the direction of Luyang Bridge.

The war officially began.

Qin Shilei rode Little Qiang and flew towards Luyang Bridge.

He saw dense masses of zombies charging fearlessly onto the bridge.

And on the bridge, machine guns and rockets were constantly firing.

Soon, not far from the bridgehead, a three to four-meter-high wall of zombie corpses piled up.

These were all just ordinary zombies; not a single Mutated Zombie had appeared yet.

Under the furious firepower unleashed at the bridgehead, the zombies could not set foot on Luyang Bridge.

Soon, the machine guns at the bridgehead became red-hot and jammed due to excessive firing.

The zombies took the opportunity to advance a meter, then were forced back by another batch of machine guns and artillery.

When this batch of machine guns jammed again, dozens of incredibly fast Mutated Zombies suddenly rushed out from behind the zombies.
