29: Rampant rat

Actually, when that woman picked up the cleaver, Qin Shilei and Zhang Xiaoli could have stopped her, but neither of them made a move.

That tattooed woman, someone with 'true love' like that, wasn't worth saving.

After the woman hacked the tattooed woman to death with a few blows, she collapsed to the ground.

Then she started sobbing.

Several women, hearing the crying, also began to wail loudly.

They cried for their tragic experiences and for their uncertainty about the future.

Looking at this group of women who were powerless to resist in the apocalypse, only able to be defiled by others, Zhang Xiaoli felt a knot in her heart.

"Let's leave after we finish collecting things," Qin Shilei didn't know how to comfort them either.

"I'd rather die than that," Zhang Xiaoli said, seemingly out of nowhere.

"What are you thinking? If anyone's going to die, it'll be someone else," Qin Shilei said with a smile, stroking Zhang Xiaoli's head.

"Mm, will you help me kill them?"

"Of course, we'll kill anyone who provokes us."

"Good, those scumbags, if we meet one, we kill one."

Zhang Xiaoli, who usually wouldn't even dare to kill a chicken, now spoke of killing without a ripple of emotion.

After leaving a small portion of supplies for those women, the two came to a restaurant on the food street.

It was almost five o'clock, and they planned to make something to eat here, as well as plan Zhang Xiaoli's route home.

The live fish in the restaurant hadn't been eaten by the zombies.

Qin Shilei released the Crimson Eagle and fed it its first meal of meat.

The Crimson Eagle's wounds had already scabbed over, and it would be able to soar in the blue sky again in a few days.

After dinner, the two gathered around the map to plan their route.

Zhang Xiaoli's home was in Tongquan City, Laishan Province, separated from Ancheng by Guangqing Province.

It was 1200 kilometers from here.

"Should we take the provincial road or the highway?"

Looking at the short distance on the map, Zhang Xiaoli felt a bit disheartened.

"Both paths will be blocked by traffic, and the highway passes through more forests.

Mutated animals are more terrifying than zombies, let's choose the provincial road."

The game had only been out for two days, and the Crimson Eagle had evolved so much.

Qin Shilei stayed far away from the forests on the highway.

After deciding on the route, Qin Shilei assembled twenty to thirty motorcycles at a nearby motorcycle shop.

One of them, named Thunder Dragon, could reach a top speed of 320 kilometers per hour.

Qin Shilei liked it at first sight.

Unfortunately, with the current road conditions, it was impossible to enjoy the thrill of such speed.

Ancheng University was located in the suburbs, and heading northwest led to Guangqing Province.

After Qin Shilei and his companion walked through a long section of road blocked by abandoned cars, the provincial road ahead finally became relatively clear.

A roar sounded, and the Thunder Dragon was started.

"Hold on tight," Qin Shilei reminded Zhang Xiaoli behind him.

"Mm," Zhang Xiaoli leaned forward, tightly hugging Qin Shilei's waist.

Feeling the softness from behind, Qin Shilei's heart pounded with excitement, and he almost crashed into a car that had been in an accident ahead.

There weren't many zombies on the road, but there were many crashed or abandoned cars, preventing the Thunder Dragon from picking up speed.

The Thunder Dragon weaved left and right through various vehicles.

Occasionally, they even had to stop, put away the motorcycle, and walk a certain distance.

As for the zombies that had run out of their cars, as long as they didn't hinder their progress, they were ignored.

Two hours later, dusk was approaching.

The two arrived at Donglin Town, only to find they had traveled less than sixty kilometers.

Upon entering the small town, Qin Shilei and his companion felt it was a bit too quiet.

"Why aren't there any zombies on the street?" Zhang Xiaoli looked around but didn't find the zombies that were common everywhere else.

"Maybe the people in this town killed all the zombies," Qin Shilei guessed.

"Ah, rats!" Zhang Xiaoli shouted, pointing at a group of rats walking across the street corner.

"It's not even dark yet, and rats are already out on the streets in groups; they're getting more and more brazen," Qin Shilei was also surprised by the rats' boldness.

The group of rats, hearing the sound, stopped and squeaked at Qin Shilei and his companion.

A short bow instantly appeared in Qin Shilei's hand, and with a whoosh, an arrow hit one of the rats.

The rest of the rats then scattered.

"Let's go, let's check out the Supermarket in town."

There could never be too many supplies, so Qin Shilei started the Thunder Dragon and began searching for the Supermarket in town.

.........

Huimin Supermarket.

An Qian took the instant noodles handed to her by Zhang Yong and ate them in small bites.

"After eating instant noodles for several days, I feel like throwing up just looking at them now."

Zhang Yong picked up his own instant noodles, stirred them aimlessly, but had no appetite whatsoever.

"You don't want it? Then give it to me."

A twelve or thirteen-year-old child nearby swallowed his saliva and reached out to take the instant noodles.

"Go away, go away, who said I don't want it?" Zhang Yong waved his hand impatiently.

"What's so great? If you hadn't saved Little Tiger and them, you wouldn't even get the seasoning packet," the child muttered softly as he walked away.

A woman nearby said apologetically, "Actually, there's still rice and flour in the Supermarket, but not many vegetables.

I thought instant noodles tasted better, so I made instant noodles for you.

Or should I go make some porridge for you right now?"

An Qian quickly interjected, "Aunt Zhang, don't bother, instant noodles are fine."

Aunt Zhang politely offered again, but seeing An Qian's persistence, she walked away.

There was rice and flour in the Supermarket, but not much gas, so making porridge specifically for them would truly be a waste.

There was gas in the private houses around the Supermarket, but unless there were special circumstances, no one was willing to leave the Supermarket.

There were simply too many rats in town; one could easily get bitten if not careful.

This afternoon, her son and a few other children ran out to play and were almost eaten by a group of rats.

Fortunately, An Qian and her companion had just arrived and chased away the rats, saving Little Tiger and the others.

"Zhang Hu, Little Tiger's father, is quite a hero; he actually led the survivors in town to kill all the zombies in town."

Donglin Town was the only human gathering place without zombies they had encountered, and Zhang Yong couldn't help but admire him.

"Zhang Suo, as the police station chief, truly did a good job," An Qian also greatly admired that public servant.

"It's just that the group of people we met when we first entered town was the exact opposite; they were scumbags among scumbags, and they lusted after your beauty.

If you hadn't held me back, I would have definitely killed those bastards."

Thinking of the leader's vulgar words, Zhang Yong's anger flared up.

"Are you talking about the other group of people in town?"

The aunt next to them chimed in, "Those people were originally a bunch of hooligans.

When the zombies broke out, while Zhang Suo was leading us to resist the zombies, they occupied the police station and took the remaining firearms inside."

"Later, they somehow got a batch of machetes and other weapons and robbed another Supermarket in town."

"Now they're even shouting for us to join their group, but they're just coveting the pretty young women on our side."

Upon hearing that that group had guns, An Qian was very glad they hadn't clashed with them.

She should have been glad that a large group of rats happened to pass by at that time, causing that group to leave in a hurry, not having time to act on their lust.

Meanwhile, in the Supermarket's finance office, a police officer was reporting to Zhang Suo:

"Zhang Suo, Fei Biao just sent someone to deliver a message to us.

He said the new woman offended him and that we should hand her over, or else he'll go to war with us."

"If we hand her over, he'll give us a batch of machetes and a few formidable cats."
