23: Intelligent zombies
Upon closer inspection, it was indeed a generator, a small one, not the household type Qin Shilei had imagined.
Looking at the various pipes and cables on the generator, Qin Shilei felt a headache coming on.
"I didn't expect it to be this kind of generator," Zhang Xiaoli said somewhat dejectedly.
This generator would certainly be powerful, but it wasn't as easy to operate as a household generator.
"Let's move it first."
Qin Shilei took out his Seven Star Sword and cut off the various pipes and cables, then instantly put the generator into his spatial ring.
Zhong Renhe's eyes flashed with surprise when he saw Qin Shilei actually put such a large object away.
He anxiously said, "You guys quickly check if there are other passages; the zombies are already ramming the door."
Zhang Xiaoli suddenly spoke, "I remember now, there's a small generator in the physics lab on the third floor."
"Alright, let's get out first."
Qin Shilei went to the generator's exhaust position and, with a few quick slashes of his sword, destroyed the huge exhaust window in front of him.
"Go!" Qin Shilei was the first to jump out.
Looking at the room on the right, he suddenly realized, "This should be the room for storing diesel."
He went forward again, broke the window, and jumped in.
"Qin Ge, hurry up!" Zhang Xiaoli shouted anxiously.
She looked at the surging zombie horde following Zhong Renhe, then turned and jumped into Qin Shilei's room.
"Son of a bitch."
Zhong Renhe had no choice but to follow them in.
Once inside, he found that Qin Shilei had just put the diesel tanks into his ring.
He rushed directly to the door, opened it, and flashed out.
At this moment, he was running at the very front, behind him were Zhang Xiaoli and Qin Shilei, and further behind were the zombies that had just climbed in through the window.
As soon as Zhong Renhe rushed out of the room, he found a school road leading into the distance.
This school road must have been built for oil tankers to supply fuel to this room.
He took off running into the distance.
However, Qin Shilei pulled Zhang Xiaoli and circled back, running towards the stairs in front of the laboratory building.
Because Qin Shilei and Xiaoli were running at the back, most of the zombies behind them chased after them, with only a dozen or so scattered zombies pursuing Zhong Renhe.
The two ran incredibly fast, gradually leaving the zombies behind, then turned and re-entered the laboratory building, ascending to the third floor with thumping steps.
"Roar!"
A furious roar of a zombie suddenly came from inside the laboratory building.
"This should be the Mutated Zombie commanding those zombies; we need to get the generator and leave quickly."
Qin Shilei said as he ran with Zhang Xiaoli towards the physics laboratory.
Walking about ten meters forward from the stairwell along the corridor, the physics laboratory was on the right.
"It's supposed to be here, why isn't it?" Zhang Xiaoli anxiously searched the laboratory.
"There seems to be another physics lab a little further ahead; let's go check it out." Qin Shilei pulled Zhang Xiaoli to the adjacent laboratory.
As soon as they entered the laboratory, they saw a household generator placed in the corner.
Qin Shilei walked over, touched it, and put the generator into his spatial ring.
"Bang!" The iron door of the laboratory was slammed shut and locked by Zhang Xiaoli.
"The zombies are chasing us; should we climb out the window?"
Zhang Xiaoli pointed to the window and asked.
Qin Shilei shook his head and replied, "After chasing us for so long, how can we just run away like this? You stay here; I'll go kill that Mutated Zombie first."
To ensure safety, he moved some equipment to barricade the door.
After looking around and feeling that nothing was left out, Qin Shilei climbed out through the air conditioning duct above his head.
"Roar!"
The Mutated Zombie roared occasionally, as if deploying its troops.
This also guided Qin Shilei's direction.
After crawling for more than ten minutes, Qin Shilei was not far from the Mutated Zombie.
But at this moment, Zhang Xiaoli encountered a crisis.
From beneath the iron door of the laboratory came the sound of animals gnawing on something.
"The iron door is so thick, it shouldn't be bitten through, right?"
Zhang Xiaoli tried to encourage herself.
However, she didn't know that while the iron door looked thick, it was actually just two layers of iron sheet sandwiching foam in the middle.
And the teeth of that group of zombie rats seemed particularly sharp; even iron was bitten through.
Soon, a small hole appeared at the bottom of the iron door.
Through the hole, a small white rat could be seen still gnawing away.
"Ah, rats!" Zhang Xiaoli was instantly scared and ran to the innermost corner.
What to do?
Qin Shilei hadn't left a rope before he left, so she couldn't climb out the window.
Climb into the air conditioning duct to find Qin Shilei?
But she didn't know where he had climbed to.
And weren't rats supposed to be the best at digging holes? What if those damn little white rats chased her?
The thought of rats possibly catching up from behind and then crawling up her pants and into her body instantly made Zhang Xiaoli's whole body break out in goosebumps.
"These are just zombies, just zombies."
Zhang Xiaoli kept trying to reassure herself, and trembling, she walked back to the iron door.
Just then, the zombie rat finally bit out a hole large enough to squeeze through.
It squeaked and squeezed in.
"Go to hell."
Zhang Xiaoli closed her eyes, bent down, and chopped down with her knife.
Only after feeling it hit something solid did she slowly open her eyes and look at the ground.
Fortunately, the zombie rat was chopped in half with one blow.
But another zombie rat had already squeezed in.
Zhang Xiaoli had no time for fear; she quickly raised her cleaver and chopped down again.
Immediately, zombie after zombie kept squeezing in, and Zhang Xiaoli just kept raising her knife and chopping down.
For this game, which was like whack-a-mole, Zhang Xiaoli, who had already reached two-star, was doing quite well.
For now, no zombie could escape her cleaver.
Third floor, chemistry lab.
A zombie, almost identical to a human, looked up at the ceiling with some confusion.
Suddenly, a cover plate fell down, and then Qin Shilei's head appeared in the opening.
"Roar."
The Mutated Zombie leaped, its claws grabbing at Qin Shilei's head.
Qin Shilei pulled hard on the duct with his left hand and retracted back.
Missing its attack, the zombie landed and leaped again, this time attacking Qin Shilei's section of the air conditioning duct.
But Qin Shilei lunged forward, head first, body following, and jumped down from the opening.
He flipped in mid-air, landing steadily on his feet.
Just as he stood firm, he heard a whooshing sound from behind him.
Qin Shilei took two steps forward, and at the same time, the Seven Star Sword instantly appeared in his right hand; he twisted his body and thrust it backward.
The Mutated Zombie dodged, avoiding the sword's edge.
Qin Shilei also took the opportunity to turn and face the zombie.
He saw that apart from its sharp claws and crimson eyes, this zombie was almost indistinguishable from a human.
"Roar."
The Mutated Zombie roared but did not attack again.
"You're summoning your underlings, aren't you?"
Qin Shilei instantly saw through its intention and raised his sword, thrusting it towards the Mutated Zombie's head.
"Hiss!"
As the Mutated Zombie let out a sharp shriek, Qin Shilei felt a sharp pain in his head, and a mouthful of fresh blood spurted out.
At the same time, the Mutated Zombie's sharp claws grabbed at Qin Shilei's throat.
Is this a mental attack?
Qin Shilei secretly cursed in his heart.
Looking at the rapidly approaching Mutated Zombie, Qin Shilei's head was splitting with pain, yet he found he had lost control of his body.
Was he going to be killed by such a zombie?
